I tried the enchiladas for lunch and they were delicious. The chicken had a thick and creamy sour cream gravy and the beef enchilada also had a tasty chili sauce. We had a party of 8. So not very big but not small either. We we're there on a weekday around 6pm. It was pretty empty. I ordered the Chile Relleno plate. It was absolutely disgusting and this is a dish that I love to eat. I have gotten it before at the location in Hillsboro and it was amazing there but unfortunately not here. I threw it all up about an hour after eating. So I guess there was something wrong with it. The worse part was that they charged us almost $30 for a tip for a party. The entire bill was $100. We had shitty service and half the time had no waitress even though there were about 5 workers just standing around talking to each other the whole time. Terrible experience. read more

First, the good news. Twelve of us, in town for a special event, arrive at the restaurant on a Saturday evening. We had called a few minutes earlier to determine whether such a large group was even possible. We were seated almost immediately and the great service began. The extended table was quickly covered with chips, salsa and water for everybody. The appetizer orders were taken and delivered. I ordered one of their high-end combo plates so that I could sample a variety of their cuisine. One of our team members was celebrating a MAJOR milestone in his life and bought a round of cocktails for everyone who wanted one. I was not authorized for a cocktail that evening but I can report that they all looked great and everybody was happy! Unfortunately, the food was sub-par. The salsa was bland and watery. All of the elements of my combo plate were barely, if even, competent; better Tex-Mex is available at many places all over Texas (and beyond). Had always supported this business, but because I requested server to wear a mask, (curbside), the owner came out disrespectfully I might add. Yelling at me that it wasn't a law to wear masks and that that his servers don't have to wear masks. If I'm a customer, over sixty and still not feeling comfortable about this Covid-19, I couldn't understand the big deal. Affordable pricing, excellent food that came out quick and hot. The enchiladas are delicious. Big baskets of chips and spicy salsa. BIG drink cups. The staff had great customer service. I was passing through Waco and found this place om yelp. Food is ok. Flour tortillas seem packaged vs homemade. I ordered the chicken and shrimp fajitas. Shrimp was good. Chicken very dry. Consistently delicious food. The chips can be a little greasy at times and the taste of the salsa varies (which at least indicates that it's freshly made). The Doña Maria is probably my favorite dish with the Tacos al Carbon coming in a close second. The service is usually pretty fast during lunch. Overall, highly recommend it. read more

I am reviewing today because great service is becoming more and more scarce everywhere, especially amid staffing disparities. This evening I was blown away at the service provided At El Conquistador in Bellmead. The host was prompt in greeting us, he seemed to care about our experience and I watched him helping to clean the dining area when he was between customers. We had outstanding service from Lizz, and another employee who was refilling chips and bussing tables also asked about us. I was so impressed that I wanted to tell the whole internet. We lovingly call this place El Con, and you can always depend on delicious, hot food, that is served in a timely manner. I recommend the taco rico dinner! Stopped here with a couple of friends on our way back from a day at the races in Austin at the track, we were greeted and seated promptly, very friendly greeting service. Bowls of chips and salsa immediately came out, they were both very good and the refills came faster than we could keep up. Had the burrito dinner plate, it came out pretty fast and hot. Very tasty, good sauces and sides. This place is a great value, all 3 of us got our fill and spent only around $10-12 each for dinner entree and a soft drink. It saddens me to have to give a review with such a low rating, but the food here is lacking. Everything we ordered was bland. I cannot recall the last time I enlisted the aid of table top salt to enhance the flavor of food served to me at a restaurant, but it was absolutely necessary here at El Conquistador. The salsa was so bland that I had to add salt, stir it up with a chip, and then add more salt. The queso is terrible. If I had been blindfolded and asked to identify what I was tasting, I most certainly would have guessed cream of mushroom soup- which a completely bizarre thing to say, but that is exactly what I would equate the taste of the queso to be like. Then for an entree I ordered an enchilada plate with a sour cream chicken enchilada and a cheese with chili con carne. Amazingly this looked great, but somehow they were able to make the entire dish bland. Completely devoid of flavor. I'm very disappointed at my experience here and the price was outrageous considering the food was so lacking in the flavor department. I will say that the waitstaff here was very friendly, but it does not excuse the awful food. read more

I received odd chunks of boneless chicken breast that had been boiled before being browned in a skillet without seasoning. The veggies had no caramelization. Tacos Al Carbon were pretty good. My husbands enchiladas were ok. The charro beans were tasty!!the cheese dip was orange . I am used to white cheese dip. It was thick and lumpy- gross.
