We had a phenomenal time at the El Cortez Cabana Suites during our March 2026 staycation! The rooms are adorable. Our room had lime green walls with black and white accents, giving it such a cool retro, vintage vibe. The front desk staff in the Cabana Suite area, especially Rhonda, was phenomenal and provided top-notch service. I also really appreciated the added security of needing a key card to enter the main building. The rooms were clean and neat, and we came with a group of people, all of whom were equally impressed. Came here for a quick weekend bday getaway. Went through hotels.com. Pictures looked appealing. Double checked on Yelp to see what people were saying as I don't trust travel advisor or hotels.com for reviews. Reviews were good so decided to book. Loved that this place has check in at 2pm and check out at 12!!! Most places mandate check out at 11am. One extra hour of sleep! Plus it's adults only!! Zero screaming kids around, cuz we wanted to relax. Deposit is $50 (which you get back) and amenity fee of $29/night. I really do hate that "fee". I miss the days when you only had to pay for the room. Anyway to make extra money off us. But of course, that's standard everywhere You can valet your vehicle for free here. When you valet your vehicle hotel front desk is right inside to the left. Super easy and quick check-in just checking in our IDs and charging us for deposit and amenity fee. You don't get hotel key or key you get a black bracelet, clearly stating that you're staying at the hotel Cortez. I am aware of that could become a safety issue especially before and about drinking and what not and it clearly states where you're staying. However, we just decided to turn it inside out on our wrist and problems solved. We stood at the cabana suites, which is a completely different than I was thinking going in. It had a breakfast at Tiffany's vibe. You have to use your bracelet to even get in the building to unlock the door and when you walk in it is a beautiful set up in the lobby with Furniture and chandeliers and plenty of mirrors. Be mindful that it is very hot in the elevator when you go to your room, but it's a very, very quick ride. Once the doors open, you're back in AC and these renovations that they are so cute. There are tons of mirrors everywhere on the wall prior to to use prior to going out. I know the ladies would love that. Had no issues about the size and look of our room. However, there are two ACs inside of our suite and only one was working. There was a shortage, but when I told the receptionist, she said that that seems to be a common thing. Why do you? It is 120° out here so The heat is definitely going to be. We weren't dying. It's just we liked our stuff to be cold. We went out for the evening when we got back we noticed that our AC unit was working and it was much cooler in our room so I decided not to continue to complain about the other AC unit working. Usually come to bus 2 to 3 times a year and this may be our new spot. These rooms are recently renovated. The showers are huge. there are him and her sink in the restroom which is imperative for getting ready. Windows are screwed shut so you won't be able to open them. There is only one icemaker in the whole building and it's in the lobby, but other than that, we really enjoyed our stay. read more

You ever experienced a business so bad it inspires you to raise your defunct Yelp account from its 5-year slumber? That's the El Cortez. Let's walk you through this... experience. The person at the front desk was polite enough but forgot to give us our promised vouchers until we specifically reminded them it was in the booking email. The casino was vintage and campy, which I fully expected. The room itself was designed in a kitschy, cute sort of aesthetic, with an extra perk: the overwhelming scent of stale cigarette smoke, a bonus in a non-smoking room. The floor had not been vacuumed before our arrival, which was obvious because of the scattered crumbs and dirt visible on the black carpet. The lighting is incredibly dim, which might be romantic in a cleaner, well-maintained room, but here it was just sad. The windows also contributed nothing to the lighting or view with the frosted stick-on filters. I was excited to put my sodas in a cold fridge only to find out the mini-fridge temp was set to "soft spring breeze" and not... y'know. Cold. The loveseat was the most pathetic creature I've ever seen. Grungy, deflated, and about as defeated as I was upon entering this room. The bed was all right and surprisingly clean in spite of the rest of the landfill around it, though I suspect it was a Full XL rather than the advertised Queen. There are no outlets by the bed for charging and the bedside lights can only be turned on or off at the switch beside the door, which is a full L-shape room away. That's fine, because when I was searching for an outlet to charge my phone, I found what looked like dripping old bloodstains on the nightstand. Awesome! The aircon was barely functional and sounded like the Balrog rising to meet Gandalf for a battle. Seriously, I got the worst sleep of my life here because the thing was rattling on and off so loudly, if it ever came on at all. The bathroom was all right, with a spacious shower stall. There were two sinks available, which would be excellent if both of them actually drained. When I sighed and turned to the toilet, I found cigarette ashes floating on the water in the bowl. All right. Whatever, those can be flushed. Let's close the door--oh, wait! The door doesn't close. L-O-friggin-L. This place is so shoddy it's almost hilarious. Unfortunately, I was exhausted from a long drive, so I decided to grimace and bear it for a night. But hey, there's a restaurant downstairs, Siegel's 1941, that's open until 3 am. It wasn't, in fact, open at 11 pm when I wandered tiredly down to the main building across the street. But that's for another review! There are some pros to this place. It's cheap on weeknights (though you absolutely get what you pay for, clearly), relatively quiet since it's across the street, the bedding was clean, and for as dirty as our room was, I didn't see a single bug. The keycard bracelets made the cabana suites building feel fairly secure in a slightly sketchy area. The lobby of the cabana building is bright and comfortable from what I saw. Unfortunately, when we called down to the front desk to request help, items, etc., no one ever came. My partner and I ended up leaving a day early, only for the front desk guy to be a complete d-bag. We told him about our complaints and why we were leaving early, and he didn't offer any apology or even sympathy. He just said "you could've called." Like we didn't, multiple times. Garbage service, garbage people, garbage place. If you're looking for a Flashy Vegas Experience, go to the Strip or even a mfing Holiday Inn. Have you ever wished your Vegas stay would have a prisoner-esque vibe to it? If so, stay at the El Cortez Cabana Suites. To check in, you're instructed to enter the parking deck and go to the lobby. However, you are swiftly greeted by surly, borderline aggressive parking attendants who demand to see your "wristband" or they won't let you in. I had to explain that we had a reservation and were checking in that day. After several minutes of scrutinizing my printed reservation (glad I had printed it and didn't have to give them my phone), we were begrudgingly allowed in. Typical of most casinos, you have to walk through the gaming floor to find the lobby. The El Cortez casino is cloudy with smoke and stale air, making it a pretty unpleasant start to your stay as you weave through the floor with all your crap. Upon check-in, we were given bracelets that we were instructed to wear in order to enter the Cabana Suites building and our room as well. The bracelets weren't the least bit subtle, loudly declaring exactly where we were staying to any prying eyes within a 10-foot radius. As a woman, I would not be okay with this for safety reasons if I were staying with girlfriends or by myself. In order to access the separate Cabana Suites building, you have to cross the street at a well-marked crosswalk. But it's like playing Frogger as many of the cars just blow through the crossing, even while the lights are flashing. The lobby front desk was unattended throughout the entirety of our stay, and the lobby itself stank of chlorine. Our room was large and clean, but boy did it feel old. From the chipped wood on all the doors and furniture to the broken toilet buttons and hard water stains around all the fixtures, it just felt crappy. Add to that the super sketchy splatter stains on the ceiling above the sink (I mean, did someone slit their wrists or something?!), it was enough to sketch me out. At least the bed was comfortable and the linens were clean. And the Cabana Suites building is fully non-smoking so that was nice. But the laundry list of broken things -- like the TV check out which didn't work followed by the inoperable room phone which forced us to have to use our cell to call the lobby to check out -- made it a less than pleasant experience. I usually stay at El Cortez Hotel but this was the first time I stayed at the cabana suites. I liked that it was very secure you needed to have your key to get into the building not anyone could just get in. There's a security guard outside at all times my room was very big and spacious. Love the Decour and the vibe of it bathroom was clean. Wish it would've had a bathtub that would've been perfect but a very big shower that was comfortable. Pillows were comfortable. The TV worked. Find water pressure was great and warm. Like the fact that I didn't have to hear all the noise from the outside, like you usually do while staying at El Cortez Housekeeping was very nice made sure I had clean towels I was there for 3 days read more

When I first booked I didn't realize the cabana suites were separated from the actual hotel and casino. (Across the street) The casino was very old time Vegas, check in was a bit of a hassle with some guest holding up the line. I was greeted by another worker after waiting almost 40min, I can't remember her name but she had wavy hair and glasses, she was awesome and saved the day!! I ended up enjoying the cabana suites, it was like living in your own off property condo/apartment. The room was nice and clean. Room service was never around, but I was told that if I needed anything to just call. My only complaint is that there was no pool. The location was very convenient to Fremont street, literally two blocks away from casino's, nightlife and food. Overall I had a blast :) read more

This was my and my husband's fourth trip to Las Vegas and El Cortez's cabanas was our favorite stay so far. It was the perfect location for having spurts of people watching and aimlessly walking on Fremont Street then going to the bathroom in our own private space before going back out to explore. We really liked the casino and having a Starbucks right at the entrance we used was phenomenal. The person who checked us in was wonderful and the room was really clean and simple. There is a channel on the tv that is all about the hotel and it is the only thing we put on the tv so when we went in and out of the room we got interesting little snippets of El Cortez history. We took advantage of the Deuce bus throughout our stay and there is a stop a block from the hotel which was super convenient. I also really liked that it took less than five minutes to get from the front door of the cabanas to our room. Every other hotel we stayed at required setting aside an hour for trips to our room to go through a casino, up an elevator, and along crazy long hallways to get to our room. The room key being a bracelet was amazing- we didn't have to keep track of a room key and since we didn't pack a lot for our trip it was really convenient. I put mine on loose enough to slide off my wrist and attached it to my little bag. Oh and their rewards program is great! We got dining credit (which I used for a free coffee at their restaurant), gambling credit (covered half of one hand of blackjack), and some other little perks just for being there. It made it easy to be a baller on a budget! This trip we figured out our new favorite Las Vegas trip tip which is to go from the airport to the free shuttle to the car rental place then take the deuce bus from there. Our Vegas trip was about 24 hours and our total transportation cost was around $15 for two people. Usually Lyft/Uber ends up being our biggest expense so this trick is going to be a game changer that I hope helps everyone who reads this! We decided as soon we we checked out that El Cortez will be our regular stay for trips to Las Vegas in the future. read more

Honestly, I didn't think that we were going to end up liking this place as much as we did. On first look, the room was nice but kinda dirty, but that's just Vegas in general. The towels were fine, the pillows were fine, the air conditioning was fine, the TV was fine, the shower was fine, everything was... fine! The bed was a little springy but my wife and I actually slept great every night. The location can't be beat as a Fremont st. base of operations. The restaurant inside of the El Cortez was actually pretty good, but that'll be a separate review. The rate was good, the water pressure was fine, and overall everything was absolutely a-ok. It's not a fancy, *fine* hotel, but it serves it's purpose well. edit: I've since been informed by the wife that this was a three star experience because of cleanliness, flat pillows, and a loud AC unit. Not sure what the bad reviews are for? This place is brilliant for those on a budget... Think of it like a high class Motel 6...lol. What did you expect for something that is well under $100 a night in one of the most touristy cities filled with hotels and inns? not to mention competition from the likes of locals with vacation rentals? Location, location, location... If you want to get away from the strip...albeit not too far away then El Cortez is a solid option. You can walk to Fremont st. or all the other desirable spots in downtown and parking is a plenty, since it's free for hotel guests. There are two parking structures to choose form. IMHO the Cabana Suites are a much better place to stay instead of the regular El Cortez which is actually across the street. From my experience all the issues I had were a direct result of the guests staying there, not from the hotel itself. The suites are non-smoking, even though some genius decided to light up in the exit stairwell because he/she was too lazy to go outside and smoke. The room itself was a decent size and comfy. Everything worked just as advertised. There is a mini refrigerator built into the furniture / TV. The staff cleaned the room and maintained everything well. What I liked: The separate building was more secure (one guarded entrance requiring a key). And you don't have to walk through a smoky casino to get to your room; instead you have a brightly colored lobby. The clean rooms had a unique style. Walk-in shower. The wifi, fridge, and a/c (with fan option to drown out outside noise) worked. White linens (as opposed to heavy, gross comforters). Room was pretty dark even though it had shutters. Though parking was in the guarded garage across the street, it's free and steps away. Complimentary branded water bottles. Crosswalk to the casino across a infrequently used street. A block away from Fremont Street and across the street from Downtown Container City. What I didn't like: The walls seemed thin (I think Tracy Morgan was next door). The other things are minor. The casino demanded to see both of our drivers licenses (despite my protest). the bench at the foot of the bed matched the carpet color so we banged our toes a few times, the water pressure was fine at best. No pool or hot tub. It's probably the best choice downtown and not a bad value. Although they probably don't want loitering, the "wannabe glam on a Big Lots budget" lobby is purposeless. I think it'd be make the property more special if they had a gourmet coffee counter or pool table or big screen with cinema couches or a small bar or a cat or something. read more

Great first impression! We were not totally sure what to expect although we did our research online months ago before booking. We had decided to explore the Fremont area of Las Vegas on our long weekend in the area. We pulled into the valet area of the El Cortez not necessarily because we were interested in using the service but because we weren't sure where to go. The men in the valet area were very friendly and offered to pull the car forward and lock it while we stepped inside and checked in. The line to check in had several people but moved fairly quickly. We had chosen a room in the cabana suites building across the street and they advised us where to park the car in the garage for no charge. We walked in the lobby area and it had a cool feel and look to it. We took the elevator up to the fifth floor and were impressed with the overall look. Our room was spacious, very trendy and cool. The room was very clean, comfortable and quiet. The only negatives we experienced were the fact that the free internet was very slow (I had to do a little work on our trip and was unable to connect), the other downside was that the windows are solid and do not open, we like to open the window for cool fresh air when the weather permits) read more

First time staying here. Used to stay at the el Cortez. Rooms are nice but the housekeeping staff couldn't been nicer. Had a room which started w a 6 so I assumed it was the sixth floor. Went in the elevator which only went to the 5th floor so I came out and she asked my room number. I told her it started w a 6 and she asked for my number again which was rude. Then I started to tell her and said all were on the first floor start w a 6. That's all she had to say. Don't like rooms on the first floor. Then as I'm coming in at night, I didn't realize my key was needed to enter the hotel when I saw a security guard telling me to smile I'll feel better. Didn't appreciate that comment at all. Him not saying anything or just a hello would've helped me feel better. I requested a wake up call for 5 am and got it 8 minutes later. Fortunately I always set a backup but still. My wife and I booked the El Cortez through Priceline just for an impromptu overnight trip to Vegas last weekend. I was hesitant because after all....it was the El Cortez. We arrived around 1 and parked in valet parking. No issues there. Once we walked into the El Cortez, I have to admit, I was really shocked! The El Cortez was beautiful. It was clean, bright, and didn't smell like cigarette smoke. Which many of the older hotels do. We made our way over to the registration desk and the check in process was easy. The representative was very friendly and said she was upgrading us to a Cabana Suite. No complaints there. So once we were given our room key, we were told to head out of the back door and across the street. To be honest, I looked at my wife kind of puzzled. More so than I usually do. lol Once we walked outside and across the street, we came to a green building labeled El Cortez Cabana Suites. It is a separate building from the hotel/casino itself. The lobby of the Cabana Suites building is secure. You have to have a room key to get in and there is a security guard as well. Also, the lobby is decorated in a pretty swanky way. The elevator, however, is tiny. If you get more than two people in it you need a lubricant to get out. We were in room 6309. Now, just to be clear, the rooms aren't suites in the sense that you might think of a suite. They are rather spacious, nicely decorated, and clean. Our room was very....green. lol The bed was pretty comfortable. The bathroom was a decent size with a walk in shower. The shower drained a little slow, but I expected that being that we were in an old building. The only real negative thing I could say is that the air conditioner was kind of weak. We set it for 68 and the room really didn't cool down all night. The room was warm when we arrived being that it was 93 degrees outside. I would stay at the El Cortez Cabana Suites again. We usually NEVER think about staying downtown, but then again, we don't go to Las Vegas often. However, since the Cabana Suites are so economical and close to the action on Fremont Street, I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. read more

I stayed in downtown Vegas for the 1st time. Normally, I prefer staying on the strip because everything is within walking distance but wanted a different experience and seems downtown has plenty high rated eats and cocktail bars on Yelp. A friend recommended El Cortez Cabana Suites and I'm glad that I took the advice. 1) Walking distance to all downtown attractions and free parking. 2) Main El Cortez casino hotel was just across the street. 3) Cabana Suite building was still fairly new and modern. 4) My Junior Suite room #6405 was clean and spacious. 5) Good wifi reception considering the room was on the 4th floor. 6) Room has coffee maker, fridge, lcd, desk, stylish chair, king bed w/ bed bench. 7) Open hanging closet only with iron, board plus a safe. 8) Bathroom was modern but no tub. It has toiletries & blow dryer. 9) Both check in and check out were a breeze. 10) Reasonable too. $90 avg weekend night plus only $12 resort fee. 11) 24 hour front desk and security were also friendly. The only thing missing from the suite was the view. The room only has one window but wasn't on planning to stay indoors anyway. I enjoyed my stay here and will consider again when in Vegas. read more

We went again in June 2017 and we had another wonderful time at the Cabana Suites. This time we went with the suite with a couch and a large bathroom but the bed is a queen. The room was very cool when we walked in and we were very happy about that since it was 118 degrees in Vegas that weekend. We made use of the huge walk-in shower and the couch =) We love the fresh fruit they leave in the lobby and the candy and water. Especially when you are trying to rehydrate from drinking so much. The only thing we do not like is the no-smoking; which everyone hates smoking so we understand. So, our next visit which is happening this October for our anniversary, we're trying the main hotel and hopefully we have some rave reviews about the main hotel. read more

Over my birthday weekend I decided to get a room Downtown for pregaming and such with my friends. The El Cortez Cabana Suites had a super cheap rate on Expedia so I decided to book a room. I've stayed at the El Cortez standard rooms before, but didn't realize they had open this separate building. The suites building is located right across the street from the hotel next to the parking garage. You check in at the main building then walk over to the suites. The suites entry door requires a key card and there's a small lobby area when you walk in. The building itself is pretty small, maybe only 5 floors with one elevator. It gives off a more boutique, intimate vibe. The room was just standard, nothing too fancy. It had a small fridge, coffee maker, AC unit, iron & ironing board, and a pretty comfortable bed. The room is nicer than the standard El Cortez rooms, but still have a very El Cortez vibe. It's downtown as well so expect some noise in the area. I wouldn't compare these "suites" to suites on the strip that's for sure. The location is nice and the price is cheap, but don't expect a lot. read more

These suites remind me of a motel 6 that has been remodeled. Ended up staying here over the cinco de mayo weekend because it was a part of a vacation travel package by southwest. The cost was super low but my expectations were slightly higher than what I seen. The place was dusty and you have to cross the street to get here. So essentially you park at the regular el cortez lot and cross over. There is security outside and someone at the desk does check your key card before letting you in. Feels low class. Definately do not recommend unless you come on a crazy expensive weekend. For anything else , you will not have to compromise in a city like vegas that has the best hotels in the world at the cheapest prices. read more

3 and a half, but rounding up. Yes, I live in Vegas, but stayed here after a night of celebratory drinking downtown amongst friends. When you can book a room for about $20-35 bucks in this area, then why not? Worth it sometimes to not have to worry about the logistics of getting home or having to exercise caution about taking "one more shot!" Knock out in a cheap hotel room instead! Go crazy. Everything's walkable. The Cabana Suites are located north of main El Cortez in a separate building. There's a 24 hour security guard at the entrance which helps to alleviate the sketchiness factor that downtown sometimes still exudes in the after-hours. The interior reminded me very much of Rumor Boutique Hotel on Harmon-- old, but renovated, splashes of white furniture, chicly. The rooms follow the same style. The Deluxe room, Junior suite, and Super suite are only a couple dollars in difference, so we stayed in the Super suite. Very roomy. Comes equipped with a flat-screen, couch, mini fridge. Not much of a view outside: the windows were frosted in an attempt to hide the neighboring abandoned apartment complex next door, but hey, they tried! My only complaint really is the hideous neon green paint. Feels like you're part of a green screen movie production. The bathroom was my favorite with its surprisingly modern fixtures, spacious shower, and its beautiful Tiffany blue paint. Why couldn't they paint the rooms this color instead? Overall, good stay! Green walls, Green walls, black carpets, funky furniture,loved it so stayed here last year on St. Patty's day, the walls are green, enough said! That was my only reason for trying this new property which was built from the ground up, used to be the Ogden House which was more like a homeless shelter for rent, anyhow glad that place is history! This place is awesome! I would stay here again, my Jr. Suite was $45 bucks for the night booked directly through the property in advance. Key note: check in desk is at the old school El Cortez across the street, park at El Cortez as well in their parking structure. Loved the room, nostolgic meets goth combo, very exciting! Would love to go back and use the room as a background for a hot photo shoot! Lots of fun things to do in these rooms! The air conditioner is right next to the bed! Ice cold, mmmmm love to jump in to a nice ice cold bed with ice cold sheets after a night of partying it up! Not joking or being sarcastic, I really do... Dirty, dirty, dirty. Hair clippings on the bathroom ledge next to the "clean" towels. The shower tile looked like it hadn't been cleaned, ever. Unvacuumed carpet. Broken bathroom exhaust fan- zero ventilation. Dusty all around- even the door handle. The bed was beyond uncomfortable- thin and hard. The decor is cute- very boutique which is why I gave it two stars. After the first night, we decided we needed to get out. We ended up getting upgraded to the El Cortez Tower king room. Literally night and day. Clean, spacious, tastefully and modernly decorated. Overall we really enjoy the El Cortez- great tower rooms, good casino, good diner. Just stay far away from the cabana suites. read more

I have no huge complaints about my stay here. I picked this hotel due to its proximity to the Fremont street area, however the big bonus is that it's not actually in the middle of the action, nor is it actually connected to a casino. It was nice to go and relax away from all the commotion. The biggest drawback was still the noise. I had a room facing Ogden street was was awoken multiple times by the fire breathing Mantis at the container park. Also the El Cortez casino blasts music 24/7, and you can hear that as well. Alarms, sirens, fighting drunks - you can hear it all if you face the road. My sister had a room facing the back and claimed it was eerily quiet. Just know that when it comes to noise pollution your mileage may vary. That being said the rooms were clean and had a vibrant color scheme that I liked. It seemed empty, and I rarely saw any other patrons here. If you're looking for something a little low key this might be a good option for you. read more

I was a little worried about booking this Cabana room because I could only see close-ups of the rooms and not of the layout of where the cabanas were to the hotel. For the price we couldn't beat it. It was just a two night getaway from our kids when my husband came back into town. We never really got to walk on Fremont Street and enjoy it without rushing to get back home. This was a real treat. The hotel room in the cabanas is small but we knew that when we booked it. It is completely adequate for our needs on this trip. They did such an amazing job decorating the lobby area, the hallway, and our room. I am very satisfied with our stay here and would definitely come back read more

I like the trendy hotel room interior design. No bath tubs, only showers. TV, coffee maker, fridge and window slats on the windows. Bring eye shades because you won't be able to black out your room if you are sensitive to the morning light. There always is a security guard outside and receptionist inside the lobby. There is a work-out room to the right of the receptionist. Sometimes there are fresh fruits for the taking. Important that you check into the actual El Cortez lobby front desk in the main building. Need to go outside after to cross the road to the suites. Parking is either in the main casino building or the parking structure to the side of the suites. No gambling machines there. read more

The El Cortez Cabana Suites is not too shabby!! I found out about this hotel from my Budget Traveler Magazine! They had a spread on budget Vegas! So I thought I would give it a try...a fairly new hotel in Downtown Vegas for only $80 on a Saturday night. Save money on a place to sleep will give me more money to eat and drink! You'll have to check in at the old El Cortez, which is just across the street. The old El Cortez is filled with old old people who smoke a whole lot. Upon walking in, my asthma started kicking in and the smoke smell stuck to my hair. Ick....minus one star! The parking situation...you have two parking structures to chose from, both are across the street...not connected to the small hotel....minus one star! The hotel itself has pretty good security, you have to swipe your room key to get in. The lobby is super cute, very art deco-ish...it reminded me of the small boutique hotels in Miami. There is no casino in the Cabana Suites, so it's pretty smoke free which is nice for a change. The room was super cute. I liked the bright green walls against the black and white furniture. The TV was a flat screen, the bed was nice and big but not so comfy like the Hard Rock Hotel. The bathroom...I wasn't a big fan, small shower with a leaky door. The sink was nice, but not enough space to put all your toiletries. Also the walls are a bit thin...across the street there was a band playing wonderful 80s rock music...which I was diggin' at first. But when coming back to sleep at 3am...the music was still going strong and it was loud in the room! So all together, my stay here wasn't too bad. For the price...I had a pleasant stay...it's good if you want to save some money and still have a nice clean fairly new place to sleep in Vegas! read more

This is a really charming little option just off Fremont. It's across the street from the El Cortez. They took a nondescript building and made it into a modest boutique hotel. The lobby and rooms are modern and downright hip for Downtown Vegas. If you love gambling downtown, but you also care about having more than a bed and some blackout curtains while you're there, I highly recommend this. Rooms are generally only about $20/nt higher than regular rooms at the El Cortez. One caveat: Rooms are a bit small. If you want bigger rooms, stay in the main hotel in the Tower. If you want chic and modern and an alarm clock with an iPod dock, stay here. Small gym on the 1st floor is surprisingly nice and well-equipped. It's small, but not heavily used. If you're staying at the El Cortez, you can also pop over here to use the gym at Cabana Suites. read more

Having tried most of the hotels on Strip and Downtown, I thought I'd give the El Cortez a try. I had read a review on VegasTripping when the Cabana Suites first opened, and was intrigued by them. Booked on Expedia for a long weekend right after Labor Day. Check in was in the main El Cortez hotel. At 2:00 on a Thursday afternoon, there were only a few people in line, and it moved fairly quickly. There they will swipe your credit card and authorize $50 and the room/tax (in my case, since the room was prepaid, they held the amount of the estimated "resort" fees). The clerk was friendly and gave me a coupon to claim at Club Cortez for a Funbook and $5 free slot play. I did like that the Cabana Suites are located in a separate building on Ogden Avenue, easily accessible from the main casino floor. I usually saw a security guard by the door most of the times I came in and out, and you also had to swipe your room key to gain access to the lobby. A receptionist was stationed in the lobby at all hours. It's far enough from Fremont Street that it's practically quiet most of the time, which I appreciated! I was assigned room 6311, on the 3rd floor. I liked the modern decor, as well as the comfortable bed. Room keys are of the fancy new RFID type...love these since most of the time I can leave the key in my wallet...I just have to hold my wallet to the sensor and the door will open...sesame! 42" TV with HD channels, a mini fridge, mini bar with overpriced cookies/snacks and bottles of water, a cute little ottoman/chair, and a desk area. Not bad. One complaint would have to be that there weren't really any dresser drawers in the room. Sure, there's a "closet" area which holds the iron, ironing board and safe, and there was room in the cabinet next to the mini fridge, but I think it would've been nice if they somehow worked that into two shelves or something...other than that...love it. In Las Vegas, unfortunately, resort fees are slowly trickling into Downtown from the Strip...but on the bright side, El Cortez only charges $8.95 per night plus tax. They happen to call it an "Amenities Fee" and it covers two small bottles of water daily, parking, WiFi, daily slot tourney, and access to the fitness center. I got a decent deal on this place on Expedia to begin with - the room was $240 including tax for four nights before I used a $150 loyalty coupon they gave me. So at $90 before the resort fee...it's still one of the best values Downtown I would definitely consider a stay here next time. read more

A suitable spot for a Downtown escapade. Cabana Suites is an affordable and updated hotel for the hip crowd. There were many poor reviews on here. I wouldn't let those be a deciding factor. If you are choosing a hotel room from downtown your choices are basically from Old fashioned - outdated - old - run down - scary - all the way down to health hazardous. So it is nice that there seems to be a different option to choose now. Lets be honest beggars cant be choosers, but for the price and location I would still consider Cabana Suites. It has a well balance of vintage and modern. It is apart from the original El Cortez and just across from the new parking garage. Kind of in its own little world. At night the security presence is always there and adds to the general safety of the property, so you don't have to worry about creepers. A room card opens the front entrance and an attendant is always at the front desk. There is only one elevator for the 5 story property. There was only a slight indica/sativa odor when exiting the elevator on the 4th floor. Definitely just from one of the patrons. The room we had didn't have any strong odors. Our room was cute. The decor was passable for a south beach type of modern. The bathroom was rather neat and much nicer than you could expect from the location and price point. The bed was comfy and a mini fridge is included in the room. 42" flatscreen tv and an Iphone clock radio were present. The size was roomy enough and I would say we enjoyed the overall ambiance. If anything was sub par it was the view of the El Cortez parking garage. Aside from that it was an enjoyable stay and we would definitely stay here again. read more

I am a bit conflicted about this review. I like this place and will stay again. I did have one recent experience that threw me off a bit. When I found a hypodermic needle next to my be while getting ready to check out. I had been in the room 5 days and it was in a tough place to reach. I was not really at much danger here, just wished this would have been found before I had taken over the room. Everything else is pretty good. Love the retro vibe here. Depending on the room you get the size can be great or a bit small. I stayed here 8 out of 11 nights i was in town in two different rooms. I will say I don't think these rooms air out well. After taking a shower and coming back hours later I always seems to get a muggy/wet smell in the air. On the overall i would stay here again and would recommend them for anyone looking for a nice cheap place to stay downtown that also seem fairly secure. read more

Crashed here on a recent trip to Vegas. My friend was turning 30 and through a club-owner connection we got comped rooms at the El Cortez in the Cabana building. These are the newer, recently renovated rooms. Honestly, even if we didn't have comped rooms, I think the highest price we heard was maybe $160 for a night? Not bad, especially considering the proximity to Fremont. The building has key-card access from the outside which leads to a front desk. Rooms were clean and spacious. Kind of has the layout of an old school motel that has been massively updated. Rooms were a bright green color. Modern shower/sinks. Surprisingly powerful hairdryer for a hotel. Beds were clean and cozy, although there are no dual-queen room options in the Cabana, only King size beds so if you're going with friends make sure you don't mind snuggling! Haha. Goodies available on the counter and there were a couple chairs and ottomans that provided some extra seating space other than the bed. The only annoying part about the room was how quickly and heavily the roomdoors shut (so if a lot of people are up late, you will hear tons of doors going SLAM!!!). A great place to crash AND they have checkout time at noon. Love it. read more

Stayed at the El Cortez Cabana Suites on a recent trip to Las Vegas. The hotel is housed in a separate building from the rest of the El Cortez - basically across of Ogden. Check-in occurs at the El Cortez's lobby, which is a short walk from the parking garage and EC Cabana Suites entrance. Security is constantly present to ensure that the walk is not too intimidating. You will need your room key to gain access to the EC Cabana Suites building. Upon entering, you are greeted with a cool looking lobby with couches, a tv, and a few other amenities. Elevators are to the left, the fitness center is down the hallway, and so is the ice bucket. I booked a Super Suite room, but I'm not so sure that it was worth it. The room is big, but a lot of it is just empty space. The room itself is a funky green color, which took a little getting use to, and eventually grew on us. The bathroom was very elegant and clean, and had a large shower stall. The room had a king bed, and a large lcd tv. For the low low price of just 35 a night upgrade, the EC Cabana Suites is quite the bargain - I've spent more on Motel 6's per night than this place! If you are looking for a premium room product, at a bargain basement price, the El Cortez Cabana Suite is for you! Location: Overall, the El Cortez's location does feel a little disconnected from the rest of downtown (Fremont Street Experience). It is located about a block away from the canopy. It is, however, located within the Fremont East Arts District, which had its pluses and minuses. While this area does feel (at times) like it is turning the corner (bars, hipster coffee shops, restaurants), it still has a ways to go (too many beggars and drunks roaming around). read more

This was my third time staying here, but since opening a few years ago, things have gone downhill for this hotel I booked on January 2, 2013 for a Cabana Junior Suite - King (medium size room) on their web, but upon arrival on March 1, 2013, I checked into the room to find that they gave me a Deluxe Room, which was too small and I purposing was trying to avoid this room. I went back to the reception and the clerk said the hotel was sold out and could not give me the medium sized room. At the time of check in, she did not notify me of this change. My two friends also booked the Junior Suite at the same time, but they were not moved into a smaller room. I have enjoyed staying here the last few years, but because of this, I will not be returning. read more

Love, love, love the cabana suite!!!!!! You have to check in @ the main El Cortz hotel where the staff is super friendly, sociable & knowledgable. We had a nice valet/bell hop guy bring all of luggage & goods across the street to the other building where the cabana suites are located. They have a security guard standing outside 24/7 & you can only get into the building using your room key outside the doors that unlock the main doors for you. A little sketchy area by this hotel, more so @ night time. We got information one day about Container Park (short walking distance from the hotel) & other Vegas attractions from this awesome front desk staff inside the cabins suites named Dion. The cabana suites are so fancy! Nice workout gym & decorated lobby, hallways & rooms! Definitely would stay there again! Only bad thing is they have no pool!!!!! read more

This review is in reference to their parking. Who ever was cashiering on the night of 10/16 tried to over charge us. She was probably trying to make some side money. Not sure. We drove in and we asked how much and she said $20 cash only. We had no cash so we exited and drove next door. The parking attendant at the second lot informed us it was cash only as well and let us know we would have to park where we just came from for $10. We went back to ask why we were being over charged and the parking attendant denied ever saying $20. We were lucky to find a spot on the street. read more

A very small room, really vivid neon green, but really good deal for the money. All Vegas hotel rooms charge $10 - 20 / nite for resort fee, or $10 - $15 / device / 24 hours for internet use. The El Cabana doesn't charge resort fee but only Cabana suites are free for internet usage. That adds up! advice: The bathroom is almost the same size as the room. The bathrooms r nicer than the room, lol. And If you are really clean type person, bring your own towels. For dinner, head over to The California hotel for their $10 prime rib deal. On the night of 7/30 I was downgraded to the lowest Cabana Suite room even though I held a reservation for a Cabana Super Suite. CoWhen I arrived I was told we were upgraded to room 400. I don't want to stay in the old buildings only in the Cabana Suite, when I communicated this to the check in clerk I was told there was no option as the Cabana was sold out. I was also given the option for a refund at the time however, it seems downtown was pretty close to sold out after checking a few apps. When my wife and I went to 400 we were not impressed and I returned to the clerk to plead for a Cabana room. She complied and found us a small room in the Cabana. This room had dried vomit on the side of the bed; I was too exhausted to require a cleaning and didn't want to tell my wife because I knew I would have to find a new hotel. Update: in a little over a week a manager replied to my request and I was refunded. read more
