One star bc I can't say zero . Most disgusting place I've ever stayed in in my life. I'm absolutely traumatized. I'm actually driving away right now gagging. There was a homeless guy outside our room, coughing and spitting. It looks like we were the only ones there. luckily, we were locked and loaded. If we could, if we would've left, but we were traveling so must we had to at least get a few hours of sleep. Just like one of the reviews on here that stayed in room seven we also found hair and dirty sheets. The headboard was disgusting. We asked the lady who ran the place and her son to please come change the sheets and wipe down things and steal. Everything smelled really bad. DO NOT STAY HERE! I have stayed at many motels over the years when needing a cheap place to stay, but this was NOT worth our money. We stayed in room 7, which is a tiny rectangle of a room right next to the storage room. You can see daylight under the door, and it snowed. Very cold! We were afraid to use the space heater because there was no smoke detector or CO alarm. The tv was tiny and best viewed from the toilet. Speaking of the bathroom, black fingerprints and smudges all over the walls and ceilings and towels... and it had this sickly sweet chemical smell the longer we stayed in there. Is this what meth smells like?! The woman at check in was pleasant enough, but I should have known walking into the office and being confronted by old stale cigarette smoke that this would not be a clean and safe place to stay. We stayed two nights and kept getting awakened by noises from the neighbors and cars coming and going all night. Heard a car speed away at 4am and we ran to the window to make sure it wasn't our truck being stolen! Dirty, thins sheets, squeaky spring mattress.. it was not a good weekend. The bed spread has weird black hairs all over the foot of it... I slept in my clothes! I think this is the kind of place you go if you have no other choices. Maybe all of the good reviews here are because this was a better option than outside?! Do yourself a favor, stay somewhere else! This cat came back, and mastered her stay in the cubical. This time I booked a weeknight, and it was even cheaper!!!! They had toiletries in the bathroom, maybe my first time it was simply forgotten? Had some time and walked into town along the roadside trail. It's not that long of a walk, I checked out the park, and some of the shops, and lastly the grocery store that's .6 mile away. They sell the best muffins. Also made sure to do the tricks I mentioned in my last review, covered the LED lights on the heater. And put a towel over the window to make the room a little darker. I was really hoping to not have to take it to this level, but the management at this establishment literally just told me that they had no intention on even following up with me about this situation.. so... Terrible stay! Reserved for August 3-5th for my MIL to celebrate her birthday after my hubs and I had had a semi-decent stay there for one evening, short notice, previously. Given that the place was kinda cute, clean, and relatively inexpensive, when she mentioned she would like to see the local Elvis impersonator for her birthday, I quickly obliged her and set up to have her stay two evenings at said establishment. She checked out, on her own accord, on Sunday evening, a full day before she was supposed to. She said it was not a friendly or safe feeling establishment and that she was extremely uncomfortable from the front desk manager. Back story in a nut shell: I scheduled this two weeks in advance of the reservation via Expedia.com (as I previously had used) and paid with my card as a birthday gift. Her only obligation for the weekend was to be the $100 refundable motel deposit. Not only did they insist on taking payment in full from my MIL ($199.34 + additional $100 deposit), but also DOUBLE charged my account! When I spoke with the mystery front desk woman (she literally NEVER states her name nor does she wear a name tag... but was very happy to let me know that she has been the manager for the past 6 years) she told me that there was no record of payment on her side. I offered an email confirmation to show the not one, but two pending charges from my account for $199.34. She received it, was absolutely lost for knowledge of what to do (she even told me that this has "literally never happened before") reasonably embarrassed, and requested she contact her manager. I stated this was acceptable so long as my MIL did not have a problem checking in as it was very important to me that she go there to RELAX and have a nice 74th Birthday. Not so nice. After I was assured by mystery staff manager lady that there would be no problem with her checking in, I requested she leave me a detailed message upon call back if I did not answer. It was Saturday night and I was busy, understandably. Fast forward 5 minutes and I receive the call assuring me my funds would be back in my account by Monday (today) and I let the issue go. I receive call from MIL around 9 pm, at which time she informs me that the front desk manager girl only let her Checkin by paying in full, even though they already took payment from me x 2. So here it is Monday and this total of $398.68 is still pending on my account (see photo that the establishment apparently isn't educated enough to understand) and anyone who uses checking accounts knows a pending transaction comes out of your account until reconciled by the banks. So basically they have stolen almost $400 from my account - without even receiving a credit card authorization form from me that the rude ignorant front desk lady said she must get from me prior to charging.... ? So why then did I get charged at all in the first place?? The owner can't even take the time to call. read more

The "HELLDORADO MOTEL" is the most filthy and disgusting motel I have ever stayed at in my 69 years on earth!! I booked 3 rooms for Saturday 03/09/24 as I had a construction project I was working on nearby. One room for my son and his wife and one room for my 2 workers.. I decided to stay in Twain Harte one day earlier, 03/09/24, than everyone else in my crew so I could ready things for the construction project. Friday, when I walked into the room I saw the walls had not been painted in years and the drapes were old and worn. I also saw the room was heated by a plug in space heater. That didn't bother me too much at the time so I decided to make the best of a 2 night stay. That evening I took my shoes off to prepare to shower and beneath my feet I felt a dirty gritty feeling beneath my feet on the floor. I walked around the bed and to the bathroom and I felt the same gritty feeling all over the room. I grabbed a towel and dry wiped the floor shaking the towel contents into the bathroom sink (photo 1). I then wet the towel and wiped the floor with photo 2 showing the results. I had to wipe the entire motel room floor 4 times rinsing the towel each time to remove the dirt and filth from the floor. As I wiped the floor, I looked under the bed and photo 3 shows what I found beneath the bed!!! So at 10pm I go to the office and speak with the male manager to tell him about the dirt covered floor and filth I found under the bed. He apologizes and promises the room will be cleaned and will be spotless for my next night stay. Suspicious about the rest of the rooms cleanliness, I started to look for more filth and grime. Photo 4 shows the dirty microwave which had some sort of uncleaned spillage. Photo 5 shows liquid marks on the nightstand from someone else's previous stay. Photo 6 shows the disgusting and filthy shower!! In addition to this dirt nightmare, I plug in the coffee maker to make a cup of coffee and a fuse blows due to the over loaded electrical circuit.. Now I am in darkness!! Another trip to the office to have the manager reset the blown circuit!! After all this I crawl into a bed with a worn out mattress that has springs you can feel on your back and squeaking noise each time I moved!! No refund or offer to change the room was ever made and please read about my son's experience, Matthew M. In my opinion, the Heldorado Motel is unfit for human habitation and should be closed down. Request a unit closer to the office 3. Put into a unit attached to the office that shouldn't have been offered to paid guest. It feels like it was a staff quarter. 4. In short; Simple, no frills, cozy little motel. We stayed here for 1 night after a fun day tubing at Leland Snow Park this weekend. Our room was set up with 2 queen beds, which were comfortable and clean. The inside of the room was nice with what seems to be a fairly updated bathroom and hardwood flooring. The smart TV allowed for us to watch plenty of movies for the kids. Staff was friendly and I enjoy the small town feeling here. Very close to Pizza Factory and the market, which was perfect for us. we tried to get our money back but the lady said no. we got the key opened the door it was freezing in there. tri to get heater on but it wouldn't turn on. went to office told her I wanted our money back as it was freezing, dirty and disgusting. she said I will bet a space heater. she brings space heater in and then she said the wall heater will kick on. That place was the most horrible place. carpet filth, coffee pot had dirty pod in it, cups she gave us for coffee had a terrible order in lids from cigarette smoke that she took out of her house. we couldn't use them they were horrible plus we were afraid to use coffee maker. they had 1 hand towel, wash cloth and the bath room was filthy with mold in window frame. just disgusting. Then the next morning my boyfriend fell as they didn't even have steps to get out they just hat a big clump of cement sloped to step down. It was iced up an he slid and fell cutting his arm up really bad. Went to manager's office and she wasn't any help as I asked for bandaids and of course she had non. she didn't even offer to help me get him up off ground. An Airbnb would likely outshine this place. I wasn't entirely impressed. The cost was relative to the area but again, Airbnb would've been more accommodating. A few things worth mentioning, the blinds were broken in the bathroom. The room does not get dark at night with the insane bright lights along the walkway outside your door. They tried to charge me per dog per night... which is just ridiculous. Especially cause they also wont let you leave the dog in the room (even a well behaved one who doesnt fuck anything up). Their coffee bar is inside their office which doesnt open till like 8 or 9. I dont know many early risers that can wait that long. It seems to be family run which is something I like to support but we will likely utilize an Airbnb next time since its more accommodating to our needs. Unsafe, Dirty, and Overpriced I stayed in this motel for two nights in Feb 2022. The reservation was for a Premium Queen Room and was made about a month before the stay. I found the room to be far from Premium; it did not qualify for an ordinary or usual room. The conclusion is based on the following observations: A. The lock of the room door had glitches. It was hard to lock or unlock the door. B. The frame of the room door was coming off. There were a lot of nails exposed. C. There were two electric panels with holes on them and exposing the inside. D. The switch of the nightstand lamp was broken. E. The room was dirty. F. The bathroom sink and the toilet were small. G. The rug in the bathroom was not clean. H. The shower cubicle was dirty I. The room was right next to a busy road and very noisy. Based on the above observations I think that the room was overpriced and unsafe. 1. Overpriced: A subpar room was sold as "premium". In no way, the price is fair based on the conditions of the room. 2. Unsafe: With the exposed nails and the exposed electric outlets, the room was unsafe in multiple ways. I reported this to the front office multiple times. However, despite reporting this multiple times, no actions were taken. In an attempt to get away from the East Bay smoke this weekend we decided on a trip west. Initially the plan was to stay in Sonora but the pet friendly options that were available seemed a bit sketchy so when we stopped for food in Oakdale we looked at other places and the El Dorado seemed like it would work out just fine. I cannot say enough good things about Adrienne who greeted us warmly despite us arriving after office hours (it was just after 10pm). She was so kind and cheerful and let us know to not be shy using the heater as it was pretty cold that evening. The bed was super comfortable and the room was very nice and clean. I would say the only "downside" is that the floors were really cold but as a pet friendly establishment it makes sense that there would be no carpeting or rugs so I get it, just bring socks! Also, let them know somehow that you are coming with a pet, the app I booked through didn't have a place to indicate that and it created a tiny bit of confusion when we arrived. It wasn't an issue just required a second trip to the office to sign the pet agreement and pay the most reasonable pet fee I've ever encountered, $16.50. If we are ever back this way, we'll definitely stay here again. read more

The good: hotel was cute, small but functional (hot shower was nice). The bad: upon check in... curiously, the host spent more time talking about ways to loose our $200 deposit ($100 for our pet and $100 for the room). After our stay we were accused of letting our dog sleep on the bed and they were going to keep our deposit. Uhh I explained a 110lb Rottweiler has no business on furniture at our home let alone when it could cost me money. The hair on the sides of the bed was from the dog walking around them. Not from a dog laying on them. Then they wanted to keep $40 for a dirty hand towel. We were on the road back home and they called and we were told that we had make up on the hand towel. I told him my wife doesn't wear make up. Maybe it was chocolate from my kid who didn't was here hands well enough and dried them on a white towel. I said sorry, it will wash out. He explained that he has to pay extra labor to his staff to take out satins. I told him one hand towel isn't worth $40, so he dropped the ask to $20 for the labor. I asked how many hours does it take to wash a stain out of a hand towel. He said that's what it takes as he has to justify this extra time to his owners. I told him we'd be charging him for our dirty socks because the vinyl floors were disgustingly dirty had obviously not been mopped for a while. He said why didn't you complain? Well, newsflash! It's not worth the money. The rooms aren't clean, The heater was barely heating the place. Once we lost electricity due to a snowstorm, they turned a power generator on. However, the refrigerator outlet wasn't connected to a generator and nobody warned us. So all the food got spoiled overnight. The reception lady offered to book her room directly without booking.com next time for a better price which we did, but she canceled the booking without any reason and offered to rebook it for ~$50 more. So if you have bad allergies like me I don't recommend this place until they re train their housekeepers. After hours of snow fun we came back to our room and turned on the heater up to 74 it took 2 hours to get to 70‍ We just felt for the price they could've cleaned way better and had a up to-date heating and double pained windows... Also please if you allow dogs have the owners pick up their mess two piles in the walkway that I saw the worker walk over after talking to these people who's kids were messing with the new tree/bush growth. Booking a room online is always challenging for me, not knowing exactly what we will get. Decided to take a chance since it was close to what we wanted to do. After heading out on Friday, we got stuck in a lot of traffic & the motel called to make we were ok & on our way. Five hours later we made it. Checked in at the office & was greeted by a nice lady. My reason for not giving five stars is we were told they put a $100 deposit on your card in case of an incidentals. Was not mentioned when we booked. I am not one for surprises like that, so it made me a little nervous. Got to our room & you can tell it was upgraded. New floors, new tile in the bathroom & it was clean & quite. Hardy heard the road or other guests. Room 7 was a bit narrow, but again, this is an older motel. They still use actual room keys. The bed was ok, not too hard, but did make noise getting in & out. TV was fine & had a little fridge & microwave-not that we needed it. We were there to sleep. Check out was easy, was actually greeted outside. Nothing was billed to our card for the deposit. Okay...do not stay in Room 7! It is extremely small, the TV doesn't extend so you can look at it properly, the TV remote control cannot turn the TV on or off (you have to press the button on the television), the bathroom window does not close all the way letting in a cold draft, the heater works, but makes the most annoying drip sound when it's off leaving you not able to sleep, and the "queen" size bed is sooooo uncomfortable (I think it's really a full size which makes a difference when you want to sleep with your husband and 4 year old). We paid $82 for the room, but I think it was really worth around $55. My entire family woke up the next day so tired because of the poor sleep we got. I understand you get what you pay for, but I believe we overpaid for this room. Perhaps the other rooms are better but beware stay away from Room 7. read more

This hotel was terrible. The room smelled heavily of smoke. There was blood on the sheets and cigarette burn marks on the towels. The flooring had a bunch of gaps that you could trip on. The shower drain did not work and there was 2" of water sitting by the end of my shower. Ended up leaving as you felt more dirty after the shower from the smell of smoke. The room was not inhabitable. There were two people smoking a room down in the doorway. There were no shampoo, body wash or hand soap either. Asking about local events and places to visit. Was a wonderful experience. Room I had was cosy. And was well taken care of.. Cleaner then most motels. Wife and I stayed there this last weekend in room 6 and didn't have any real issues. The "new" owners were very nice and accommodating. The room was clean and the outside area looked freshly painted and was clean as well. No issues with other guests nor did I see any sketchy characters. Just needed a place to sleep and shower after adventures around the area. Was a bit last minute booking so most other places were booked. I waited over a month for their call, only to find out that I had been FIRED for not being the one to call them first. The best part? All I have to say is... Yahoo Trip Advisor is full of lies! Where to begin with the "No Tell Motel" as a great friend described it... According to one reviewer on Yahoo: "Clean and Affordable by A Yahoo! Contributor The EL Dorado is a great choice close to Dodge Ridge ski resort. The rooms are spacious and clean. Most have been remodeled and updated" I read this today and think this Yahoo "Contributor" has never stayed there! On the plus side.. Ted, the "ex marine" Manager is a nice guy and supposedly gave me a good price of $170 for the two queen bed, two night stay. After staying there, I feel a little ripped off. Twain Harte is a cozy little mountain town and they have some places to stay sprinkled about. A friend of mine actually referred me here and said it was okay. I was in town for a wedding and thankfully there were five other wedding guests staying here.. presumably based on the recommendation of our newly married friend. Our room was located right next to the office and came equipped with a tv, small refrigerator, coffee pot, microwave and a ceiling fan. NO a/c! Our room also contained various bugs. It needs to be fumigated, deep cleaned or even torched. The bed spread had various burned in hole marks from who knows what! But, the bugs... I just don't get it. I understand we're in the woods and these rooms are cheaper than the other places, but they really need a deep clean. My friend stayed a few doors down and her room wasn't even cleaned prior to her staying there. There were used items in the bathroom and a half empty milk carton in the fridge. The floor needed a good vacuum or just needed to be replaced. Back to my room and other exciting details.. BUGS!! Seriously.. Ants in the bathroom, various spiders and what not in the room and on the bed! I brought an extra pair of flip flops that I never took off.. My feet never touched the dirty floors. Another bonus - one of the worker bees drives an El Camino and LOVES to move it around the small parking lot throughout the night and early morning. His car is quite loud and none of us could figure out the need to constantly move the car around the small parking lot throughout the night and early morning. We stayed there for $86 which included the $10 pet fee. Luckily we received an A/C unit and two beds, however, I'm not surprised if we brought home bed bugs or worse. We brought our 1 year old crawler and were happy with the motel besides the chairs which were full of disgusting stains including a VERY obvious pee stain. I would have been perfectly happy with no chairs. When it was 1130 and we were going to bed, we folded down the comfetor and were SOOOOOOOOOOO absolutely disgusted by the blankets. There were sooo many stains of you know what and food. Stains covered the entire blanket (both of them equally nasty). The next morning, I noticed the "housekeeper" was a guy in a cowboy hat,....after reading the other review its obvious that they need real house cleaners. The owner was very nice and said he just took over but the level of cleanliness was so bad, the quality of bedding was fine, but PLEASE clean your blankets between guests, steam clean or at least a good vaccum for the carpets and get rid of those filthy chairs. read more

We booked this place knowing it was a one-star hotel with mixed reviews. We just needed a place to sleep while up in Twain Harte for an event, and were not expecting The Ritz. The hotel met our expectations and in some ways exceeded them. We were greeted by friendly staff who gave us an "upgrade" - we think this meant the full kitchen and separate bedrooms, both of which were a nice surprise. The decor was obviously dated - dark paneling and fixtures in one room were straight out of the 70's - but the rooms were spotlessly clean.As soon as we got to our room, we got a call from the front desk, making sure that everything was OK. The AC in the rooms worked great, and the beds were adequately comfortable. There was free coffee, and toiletries in the bathroom. The pool looked clean (we weren't there long enough to enjoy it); we didn't see the hot tub. You can't beat the location if you want to be in Twain Harte. If/as we need to return, we would consider staying at the El Dorado Hotel again. read more

Checked in after skiing, dropped gear, left to get a pizza factory pie, came back.. Feeling pretty great about our day! Piss in toilet, pubes( MANY), everything was dirty ( filthy) actually thought we'd gone in the wrong room(!?!). Went back to office, deserted, bailed and forfeited rate to NOT sleep in this hellhole. I took my family on a snow trip to Dodge Ridge last weekend and stayed at the This hotel. What an awesome experience, I still can't get over how accommodating the "NEW MANAGEMENT" was during our stay. Their rates are extremely reasonable as well. Room were clean and up to par. Just the kindness and their concern to make everything about our stay enjoyable. Extremely friendly people. I really enjoyed conversing with them out side during the beautiful snow fall. They are truly outstanding people that actually care about their business. Got to know them during our stay. Power went out, they responded with candles and generators immediately until power was restored and checked to make sure we were comfortable. They truly went the extra mile for sure. we plan on going back up in a few weeks and will stay at no other place. I have stayed all over the world in high end hotels and have not received this type of hands on personal service. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling ion this area. Joe D. read more

Had reservations for 6 & 7 Aug to attend a family gathering. The event was cancelled on 5 Aug due smoke from local fires. My wife called early Sunday morning and spoke with a very pleasant employee and explained our circumstances and that I suffered with COPD and couldn't deal with the smoke. He explained there were no exceptions to the refund policy, but he thought that the owners who were. away at the time we're reasonable folks and would understand our situation. As a result we remained home in Baja California. I checked my bank records this morning and found a charge to my account of $238.78 from the motel. My wife then called and spoke with the owner to explain the circumstances regarding our unexpected need to cancel our reservations. Regardless, the owner clung to the no refund policy the tenacity of a mongoose. It goes without saying that the employe's measurement of the owner's reasonableness differs from mine by more than a country mile. Neither of us are responsible for the fires, but. I'm sure that our Lord would agree that a charge of $238.78 for a cancelled reservation due unforseen and mutually unpreventable circumstances is far from reasonable. read more

The staff is excellent and Raksi was a most gracious host. My room was clean, comfortable and had all the basic amenties. The pool area was enjoyable. Walking distance to town. Recommended for a nice getaway. read more
