Here's what I wrote to the owners after we left: I cannot express to you how happy we were with our trip and your home was a major part of that! To be honest, the pictures online do not do justice to show the amount of space we had. I LOVED all the labels and how easy it made everything (TVs, refrigerator, garbage, etc.) to use. All of the outlets and modernization in that aspect were awesome. We all had so much fun in the game room and many hours were spent there with our kids. Our son, 8, loves all things video games and it was a treat to show him games we used to play when we were kids. The walk to the lake was easy. And, oh man, that little lake. What an ideal spot for our family. Our youngest is 3 and we felt so comfortable in that environment for all of our kids. We met your neighbor, Doug, and had some good chats with him. What a guy! Your binder with information was heavily used. We managed to get out and about a little bit: Columbia for gold panning, Lyons Reservoir, Fraser Flats, Pinecrest, my husband even made it way up Sonora Pass for a hike in the snow, while we soaked in the 80 degree weather. Unfortunately our fishing skills are lacking and we didn't catch dinner, but we still had fun trying. I will (and already have) share your rental with anyone looking and we hope to be back in the future. Our kids did not want to come home...we took them to Kauai last year and they didn't say that when we left there. Thanks for making such a magical place available to the masses. It definitely has a…read more"cabin" feel with forest in the back yard and deer sightings a couple of times on the property. We loved the little lake just a short walk away. Bring something to float on for a thoroughly relaxing experience! Our family is the outdoor type, but I was surprised how often we gravitated down to the arcade room for some fun competition. The cabin was clean, and everyone said that their beds were comfortable. Everything we needed to cook for a crowd was available including 2 coffee pots to accommodate our caffeine and decaf preferences at the same time. The owner, Eric, did a great job communicating with us and making sure that everything was going well. Neighbors were friendly, too. If you're expecting a luxury hotel with granite counter tops, this is not the place to come. If you want a relaxing, comfortable, and peaceful place to vacation with access to amazing outdoor activities, I definitely recommend this. That being said, let me tell you a few gems that we experienced while we were there... We drove up to Pine Crest Lake (probably about 20-25 minute drive from the cabin) and spent several hours hiking around the lake. There's a nice beach and picnic area, too, if you're not into the hiking. It's a beautiful area that reminded me a lot of Tahoe. We also went to Big Trees (an hour drive from the cabin). The North Grove of the park is impressive, I'm sure, but we drove down to the less travelled South Grove and had a great day of hiking while viewing some amazing trees (up to 25 feet diameter). A third adventure I would highly recommend is the Natural Bridges trail (about half way to Big Trees or 30 min from the cabin). The trail is about 1 mile long and takes you to a stream that goes through a cave. Bring your floaties so that you can float into the cave! What a treat! And a stop in the old gold mining town of Columbia for ice cream on the way home topped the day off. Great family vacation spot! Thanks, Eric!

Stayed at a house they call Natures Doorstep by Crystal Falls Lake. Rented via VRBO, but managed by…read moreTwain Harte Rentals. The home itself is nicely renovated & in a great location. Unfortunately housekeeping standards are super low & the property manager, Leah Johnson, is defensive & unhelpful. Upon arrival we emailed her regarding the mess we found including food spilled in the kitchen drawers, dirty cookware, dishes, & utensils, food on the carpet & furniture, stained towels, sheets, & bedspread. There was also animal dropping under the bed in the master bedroom & trash under dressers & on the side of the bunkbed. Property manger sent housekeeping out on day 2 with more stained sheets & towels. Unfortunately I did not think to call VRBO while we were there as I thought local property manager could take care of it. She did not & said replacements were adequate. They were gross! VRBO was not able to help after stay ended even though they asked property manager to at least refund part of the housekeeping fee. No refund was given. VRBO said they would try to contact owner, but I've waited over a month now without response. Hopefully the owner sees this review & finds a new property manger or at least insists on a new housekeeping service.

There was trash all over the front of the cabin in the driveway and a huge pile in the backyard. Also we couldn't open the lock box for the key. The office is open till 2pm. We called and told them about the trash ( which had a lot of yellow jackets and ants attracted) and that we were unable to open the lock box. Turns out they sent us the wrong code via email. Had we arrived after 4pm with their office closing at 2pm..... No access to the cabin. Regarding the trash we were told that the manager would be called and someone would take care of that. Two days later, nothing happened

We had made a rental reservation a year in advance with Mr. Kevin Lesley, but he cancelled it a month before our arrival, and we had to call him to find out. We were left high and dry as there are no rentals in the summer, one month ahead of your arrival. He was not even apologetic. We had to scramble to find another cabin. We contacted the other rental agencies in Twain Harte, and they had nothing available. However, they also shared that many in the town find THVR's business practices to be 'questionable'. We finally found an Airbnb outside of town and far away from our family members' cabins. We have been coming for over 60 years for our large family reunion, which takes place during the same two weeks every year. Throughout that time, none of us has had any issues with the rental agencies. We had a stressful and upsetting time, as there was a lot of frustration dealing with Mr. Lesley. We take one vacation a year and have never had it not be stress-free and fun for everyone. The Airbnb we rented cost considerably more, and it took a year of constant contact, including emailing, texts, and phone calls, for Mr. Lesley to pay us the difference. It was exhausting; we missed work, family occasions, and quality time with our loved ones. It felt like Mr. Lesley was trying to wear us down so we would give up our rights as renters of properties. His behavior was so staggeringly egregious that we didn't know if he had some problems or was just incompetent. We couldn't believe it was purposeful, but maybe it was. We see in another Yelp review that he is referred to as a 'crook.' Regardless, we went with another rental company in Twain Harte for the following summer. There are three to four other great rental companies. Please use them. Just look online, and they all pop up. We would hate for anyone to experience what we went through.

If there is someone living there with COVID, then don't put a guest there. I still can't believe they refused to refund as I had to drive away in the dark and find another place. SIGH.
