Pretty good taco truck! They only have beef tacos not chicken or chorizo though I'd go again for good cheap and authentic tacos

There's a saying that if you want some good food you'll find it attached to a gas station. This was…read moredefinitely all facts! I wasn't looking for anything specific to eat but this place called to me so I whipped into the parking lot and headed in! This is such a homey type of place that puts a lot of pride and joy in their food and showing off Latin culture. Los Alvarez Exxpress Latin Food is a local mom and pop spot on the corner of Gardere and Burbank next to the S&P Food Store/Chevron gas station. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect going in but what I got was a lot of warmth and comfort. This is a place for Latin locals to relax and get a bit of familiarity and good food. I dined in and ordered the Granadas Catrachas. Catrachas are traditionally known as Honduran tostadas. Los Alvarez puts their spin on it by using Granada flour to create a puff pocket and stuff it with meat, rice and cheese and serve it with encurtido (Honduran pickled vegetables). I ordered one with chicken and one with beef. The serving was huge and absolutely delicious! I was only able to eat one. That, on top of the chips and salsa and black bean dip had me full for the rest of the day! Everyone that works there is friendly and for a second you don't feel like you're in Baton Rouge. This is a magical place.

We also asked for chips and salsa, and they brought out what looked like beans, which looked disgusting. They brought out our food and served white rice instead of Mexican rice. My wife's food had bones in it. She ordered a Sprite, and there was something floating in the bottle. Since they don't speak English, they didn't do anything. To top it off, they charge gratuity.

There doesn't seem to be too much traffic so you could easily get in and out of here. The store itself isn't anything fancy, but it is authentic. The veggie selection is awesome, they're not selling all of your normal staples but what they do have is of good quality. They have a wide variety of fresh and dry peppers for such a good price. Beautiful bunches of cilantro not like you get at the regular grocery store. A large variety of yogurts. Their meat counter is huge, and reasonably priced. They have fresh corn tortillas . A wide variety of soda. The best part you ask? The deli counter, they have Tortas, quesadillas, flautas, and TACOS ! They're massive too! We got Pastor tacos and they were amazing, and at the end they will load the tacos with onions cilantro salsas and guacamole! For $1.99 a taco you can't beat it!

Nonetheless, the staff was very friendly and served large portions. I got the fajita platter with steak, beans, rice and 5 tortillas on the side. They have a self serve station where you can put your toppings (the salad thats included in the price) and sauces in containers. The food was hot, fresh and flavorful. I did not care so much for the steak. It was more like steakums with few peppers and onions. But this won't deter me from coming back to try some other meat/menu options!
