We always schedule one sunset dinner at El Faro when staying at the Pacifica Resort in Ixtapa. I believe they do serve breakfast, but their sunset dinners are the best (IMHO) as the sun sets right over the bay, and because El Faro is located at the highest area of the resort, the views are spectacular. During the winter season, you may even see whales! The menu does rotate, and they specialize in local fish options. Do check out their salads. The grilled watermelon salad was delicious. They have a full bar, but we noted that it's best to keep your order uncomplicated. Service is excellent, and they will accommodate special requests. Reservations are recommended, but we have never had an issue as walk ins. read more

El Faro is the Pacifica resort's fancy-schmancy restaurant. It offers beautiful views of the bay and stunning sunsets. We arrived early for dinner sans reservations but were seated immediately. Appies: My Mediterranean salad arrived with a healthy portion of tomatoes in balsamic dressing and mozzarella cheese with pesto. Plus 1's grilled watermelon salad was equally good. We split the pasta and clams, and it was easily shareable. I would have preferred linguine instead of angel hair, but when in Rome er Mexico. The dessert was an excellent key lime pie. They have a full bar and made us a couple of off-the-menu cocktails. Service was professional, and our server was on point, refilling our water and always nearby. One nit. The Musak gotta go. Hearing songs by The Rolling Stones, Beatles, and Guns and Roses being destroyed sucked lemons. How about a Spotify dinner time playlist! The best dining view I witnessed in Ixtapa, MX! The ocean front beach below is surround by many resorts & a golf course. The restaurant is all outdoor overhead covering dining with huge fans above all tables and beautiful lighting! I ordered Grilled Salmon with cauliflower puree far exceeded my expectations. The size, tenderness & seasoning of the Salmon were amazing! The Cauliflower puree was so smooth & creamy with good flavor. My friend ordered Fettuccine Alfredo that's prepared table side from the big cheese pot! The smell is amazing & everyone wanted a taste that didn't disappoint!! The food was very good--I enjoyed the Caesar salad, French onion soup, and duck rolls, all of which were well-executed and full of flavor. I hate to say I agree with everyone else on here but this place isn't 5 star. It is 4 star. It is good but they serve lots of stuff you get at the buffet on the all-inclusive menu. The place is beautiful and the view is even better. Came for dinner on a Tuesday night and it was fairly quiet. We had the Caesar salad, tomato soup and artichoke for appetizers. All were VERY good. We had the octopus, fettuccine with fresh Parmesan and the shrimp risotto for dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed everything. The service is also top notch. This is a MUST when in Ixtapa. read more

WARNING .......... DO NOT EAT @ EL FARO RESTAURANT, IXTAPA, MEXICO We have gone to El Faro many times ... always liked it. This time on February 28/24, (4) of us went & (3) of us got FOOD POISONING! I was so sick that I passed out in our bathroom, fractured my nose & sustained facial bruises along with shoulder abrasions. Our other (2) friends were terribly sick with diarrhea & vomiting. When I phoned to let El Faro know, the 1st person I spoke to was very apologetic & said I had to contact the Evening Dining Room Manager. I phoned the Dining Room Manager & he basically called me a Liar! Said that if this was so, we should provide Medical Certificates. He also said that on our way out of El Faro that evening, we had booked reservations for La Vista Restaurant for the following evening & that we all went there!!! TOTAL LIE!!!!!! Never have been to that restaurant & we were all too ill to go anywhere ... let alone eat out! Like, I said, we have been to El Faro many times before ... but never will any of us go there again & the entire complex was made aware of this & how we were treated! Hi, I have eaten with my parents at your restaurant El Faro at Pacifica Hotel in Ixtapa Mexico. We took, 2 tempura shrimps plates, tuna tataki, beef carpaccio and salad...we got very sick 12 hours after this supper. I needed to be hospitalized as 2 others Canadians. We rode the gondola up from the beach and enjoyed a delicious dinner with top notch service. The wine was cold and refreshing, the bread bowl was full of deliciousness that my kids gobbled up quickly. The kids had the El Faro burger and said it was the best they'd ever had. If you're in the Ixtapa/Zihua area for any length of time, give El Faro a chance. The atmosphere, the scenery, and the food are all top notch. Reservations are recommended, but my wife and I went on a Wednesday night without any.and it was no problem. El Faro is a total dining experience. The restaurant sits up high and gives a wonderful view of the bay and downtown. The dining room is open and allows fresh air (when there's an actual breeze). This is not quick dining so make sure you have good company because you will be there a while. Wife ordered Fettuccine Molcajete. I ordered Mushroom Fantasy for appetizer and Carribean Delight for my entree. The mushrooms were delightful: they're grilled in a sauce and served in a parmesan cheese cup. Wife's entree was a plate of pasta with shrimp on top. The Carribean came with 7-8 huge shrimps in a crispy coating. Love the fresh taste of all food and definitely filling. Add the bread basket with the strawberry butter and you have a nice feast. We also ordered a cocktail and two glasses of wine and spent $950 pesos (roughly $55), this meal would easily cost over $100 back in the States. El Faro is a great spot for romantic dinner or time with family. read more

El Faro sits at the top of the Pacifica Resort. It has sweeping views of the entire bay. We been coming to Pacifica for 30 years and so have dined at El Faro many times. Last night we decided to have dinner there. It's a lovely place with an airy open feel. The wait staff is attentive and first class. The margaritas are done perfectly. The food is surprisingly delicious and well done. Ixtapa in general is ok for food. Lots of decent Mexican but few places can pull off anything else. El Faro is fusion food mixing various cultures and ingredients. They don't have any dishes that are straight Mexican but rather take key ingredients or parts of recipes and blend them other cultures themes. They do a very solid job. Nice to know that after 30 years E Faro continues to serve amazing food in one of the nicest settings in Ixtapa. read more

This was the most disappointing and expensive meals we had while in Ixtapa, for the four of us. The location was the only thing they have going for it. Appetizer mushrooms were good but extremely small for the price. Soups were different is the best way to describe them. 3 of us had the catch of the day-mahi-mahi that was crusted, bed of rice was lacking flavor and the fish was over cooked and extremely dry. No one came by during our meal to even check on us, so that we could have corrected our orders. My husband was so hungry he choked his fish down with lots of water, my girlfriend and I only ate a small amount of our fish. What was really disappointing was the MANAGER was the one that picked up our plates, at which time we pointed out that our meals had not been eaten and the fish was dry. He made no attempt to correct our orders. read more

Came for the view and was pleasantly surprised that the food was absolutely delicious! We had a Caesar salad where they make the dressing at your table! I had a rack of lamp that came with ratatouille that was cooked to perfection! My husband had a seafood stuffed crêpe with a strawberry sauce that was also amazing. And to top it off we had the chocolate cake with vanilla gelato that was surrounded by chopped up fruit that look like salsa. On top of the delicious food the views are absolutely amazing! Food below average for mexico, but prices very reasonable 30$ each for dinner, had the citrus salad that was really good and then the catch of the day that was very dry. Chocolate volcan for dessert didn't not really taste chocolate accompanied bu a cheap scoop of icecream. Had a wonderful experience at El Faro. Our Concierge recommended it after we discovered all the restaurants at our hotel, Barcello Ixtapa, were full. Felt like we were a bit early at 5:30 as the place didnt start filling up until 6:30 or later. Beautiful view, great food. Soft bread, delicious appetizers. My husband had the Lobster and I had the Coconut Shrimp which were the specials. Very good. Show stopper was the Mexican Coffee and the Bananas Flambe. Our server, Andres, was superb, attentive and friendly. He made us feel special and made our evening memorable, even walking us to the Gondola after. Javier assisted him and made the Mexican Coffee. Wonderful! Our entire meal was $2,000p for the works. Several drinks, appetizers, entres, desserts. Would have been triple to five times that in the U.S. Take the Gondola from the beach up to the restaurant for beautiful views. If we make it back to Ixtapa we will, for sure, come back to El Faro. read more

Tonights dinner was an absolute failure There are many excellent choices of dining with a view in Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, but take this one off of your list. After asking for the catch of the day, which we were told was red snapper, what appeared was Mahi Mahi, with zero explanation of the switch, as if we may not know the difference. The ONLY good thing about this restaurant is the view. Food is bad, I had the scallops and they were undercooked and tasted like "fridge". I also had the risotto and it was made out of the wrong kind of rice and flavorless, and the courgettes were soggy and bitter. The venue's temperature tends to be "hot" and the cooling some fans provide, doesn't reach all the tables. This is the restaurant of the Pacifica Resort, and they offer all inclusive to its guests so they really don't make an effort to raise quality because of their captive clientele.
