3.7 star for food. 3.5 star for service. Food - lots of options and decent flavor however my particular dish was heavy handed with their salt beyond double salting. I had ordered the Maui Maui taco that came with cabbage and side of rice and beans. Those were a good combination. The Maui Maui is deep batter fried like "fish and chips". The corn tortillas had more white flour than corn flour ratio but still soft. The flaming volcano chips were a concoction of loaded chips shaped into a mountain. Ordered takeout from here having seen all the great Yelp reviews. But I was pretty disappointed to be honest. I ordered the steamed clams which came in a quart container. It was basically a garlic cilantro oil soup then what I thought steamed clams. Just so much liquid. The clam soup was also pretty bland. Not impressed. I also ordered the Al Pastor Tacos. El Guacamole offers dressed up Mexican dishes and storied classics. We've tried a number of dishes over the years, but most recently I tried a Mahi Mahi special. The fish was certainly overdone, although the shrimp was perfectly blackened and the scallops tender. The creamy sauce was spicy and rich, although the roux seemed a bit floury in the base. Their tacos are excellent, with cilantro and onions available for the purist. Their table side guacamole has always been fresh and delicious. They make a margarita mix for you if you bring your own tequila (you have to mix your own drink once the mix is serviced), which is too sweet for my tastes, but a fun variation on the usual bottle of wine or bottles of beer. Service on all of our visits has been excellent, friendly, and prompt. They moved in the past few years from a very humble storefront to a more lavish, bright, and spacious location just down the street, so it really feels dressed up compared to just about every other taco joint around. Just delicious no matter what you get. I always get the chicken soup but try a different appetizer when I visit and it never disappoints. Also, do not forget to get a jamiaca juice is so good. Group of us arrive at 6pm on a Thursday, we are seated at 6:05pm, our food is not brought to us until 7:26pm - we were forced to quickly eat half our food, pay, and hurry to the Levoy for a 7:30pm show!! Tried their food when it was catered for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Good thing I was at the beginning of the buffet line- nothing was left. What I ate was amazing. Loved the fish soft tacos!!! The sauce wasn't too spicy and I added cabbage, salsa and a squeeze of fresh lime. Chips were crunchy and went well with the obviously homemade guacamole. Food was ok. It wasn't mind blowing or anything I'd go back for. The fajitas with chicken shrimp and steak came with 3 shrimp and mostly peppers and onions. Not sure if it justifies the $27. Mocajete was average. The pork in it was just a bone in pork chop. I think the worst part is that they don't really give you a plate or anything to scoop up your food from the bowl. You have a tiny appetizer plate to work with. Service was ok. They were nice and worked hard, they moved quickly around the restaurant. They have guest WiFi listed and when asked about the password they said they don't offer it to guests? They don't list kid options but offer fries and chicken tenders. Place looked clean. Overall it was just ok. Not worth it for me to come back. It seemed like it was trying too hard to be upscale and prices were high for Millville, maybe because it was in "downtown". This is another area restaurant where I don't get the hype. Food was fine, but not amazing. Prices and portions are okay. We've been twice. Second time we walked in to a nearly empty restaurant and were asked if we had a reservation and they told us they might not be able to seat us, but decided we'd probably be finish before their dinner rush. Haven't been back since as we were treated like an annoyance. Restaurant was still fairly empty when we left so there was no concern of not having a table for their reservations. Now former mayor came in while we were there and he was, naturally, treated like gold though. My wife and I ordered 2 orders of shrimp tacos and chips with guacamole for takeout. Both were delicious, but the bill was $69.00. Each order contained 3 tacos (2 shrimp each) and rice and beans. This is, by far the best Mexican food I've ever had. The guacamole was prepared table side and was utterly perfect, just the right blend of lime juice, onion, fresh avocado. It could have been a meal unto itself. I ordered the All Pastor tacos, which are my go to, and I always enjoy them wherever I've gotten them pretty much, but these were absolutely the best I've ever had, a wonderful balance of subtle spice and sweetness. My wife got the steak Burrito Ahogado with the verde sauce, topped with cheese and it, too, was fantastic, absolutely loaded with steak and full of flavor. El Guacamole is rather spiffier more hip and with it than most you might find in Millville. It's also one of the restaurants that offers not only better food than most and though Mexican, creative, innovative and pleasing to the eye dishes. The only drawback for me was that because I always enjoy a margarita or Mexican beer with my meal, they don't have a liquor license. So, El Guacamole is strictly a BYOB type of place. However, they are more than happy to assist with corking, glasses or whatever. The overall atmosphere of El Guacamole couldn't be better. It's casual with but with a good Mexican in keeping colorful décor As soon as I was seated I was given a dish of chips along with two dipping salsas and for my starter I ordered a guacamole. To my pleasant surprise my waitress came out with a real Mexican molcajete, all of the fresh ingredients and prepared my guac right by my tabled as I watched, and I must say it was delicious. We were visiting from out of town and found this place on Yelp. We were VERY happy with our decision to go. It is located in an artsy downtown district. All of the food was delicious. If we were in San Diego, this would be a three, but for South Jersey it is a solid four. I have been here several times as it has become a family favorite. The food for the most part is solid, and the service has always been very good. There is a pleasant environment in the restaurant, but it can get a little crowded. (Pre covid) They do a really good guac and I really enjoyed the refried beans. I was disappointed with the enchiladas. They commit the sin of so many Mexican restaurants of drowning the enchiladas in sauce and cheese to the point where you completely lose the tortilla. Gives the impression of being in an el Torito and not a family owned establishment. This was rated as one of the best Mexican places in South Jersey, so since we were in the neighborhood and always appreciate authentic Mexican food we gave this a try. As I sit here two hours later, I'm trying to justify that I'm used to better Mexican food from the NYC metropolitan area, but can't get myself to go down to that level. The crux is this is overpriced, and badly prepared Mexican food. We asked for chips and salsa as part of our order and here's what we received in the name of salsa - tomato ketchup!!! I'm shocked that a place calling itself Mexican passes off tomato ketchup in the name of salsa. How difficult is it to chop some onions, fresh tomatoes, cayenne pepper, cilantro, salt and lime juice? The tacos dorado, described as filled with chicken, are instead just a fried tortilla wrap with maybe a shred or two of chicken. The cheese lathered on top is perhaps meant to hide the rest of the bland flavors from the rest of the food. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. One of their new items is the Nachos Volcano...A tower of nachos, chicken, avocado, cheese...and jalapeños!! The presentation was awesome.
