We had been to El Guacamole in the past, when they were at their old location (before COVID happened). We went again tonight because we were reminiscing of a good past experience. I can honestly say that tonight we had the worst service we have ever had. We called ahead for a reservation for 8. We showed up and the table wasn't ready so they asked us to step outside while they were just starting to clean up a table. We figured they had been busy so, we understood and stepped outside. We should've known this was just a preview of how terrible service was going to be. It took the server a while to get our order. The sever never brought out the appetizer we ordered and when asked why it never came out, she acted as if we had not ordered it yet it was on our bill. We ended up paying for it and taking it to go. Not to mention we never were offered chips and salsa for our table, yet all the other tables by us had them. Someone in our party had to ask multiple times for a drink refill that just took way too long to come. The service was extremely mediocre and the food was not great. We were a party of 8 and knew beforehand that there's only 1 credit card payment per table which was fine with us. When the manager approached the table to start clearing it, I asked if due to all the inconveniences we had, they'd consider splitting the bill in 2 (that's the least they could do since we even ended up taking our appetizer to go, which we did pay for). The manager simply said no, she had no customer service skills and did not even pretend to apologize for the horrible service. We will never go back and give business to a place that has so little disregard for their clients. We are extremely disappointed. read more

Was in Millville for my wife to get vacced at CVS - stumbled into the best Mexican food I've had since Tortugas Cucina closed in Lambertville. Family run place that is super friendly. Tables spaced appropriately and servers masked. Don't miss the tamales if they have, the pork Tacos al Pastor are to die for, plus the best fresh made guacamole. Save room for the con leche cake or flan. Many daily specials, but chicken mole and chile rellenos were out when we were there on a Monday - check ahead if you are visiting for a favorite dish. Also, its BYOB, but they were mixing up margarita pitchers for folks who brought their own bottle of tequila. Note they recently moved from a tiny space to a larger space a block down a few months ago from this review - this wasn't obvious when we followed google map directions, but we wandered down the block and found it. There may be more variety or local ingredients to be found in Texas or New Mexico - but that's a longer trip - this rates a N.J. 5-star. Will go back if in the area. read more

Traveling for work and decided to check this place out based on the reviews...it did not disappoint! We started off with the Guacamole and Chips and the Guacamole was absolutely delicious, made fresh right at the table. I got the Enchilada Taco Y Tamal which was suggested by the waiter since I could try three mini entrees instead of one, very tasty! Only downfall is they don't allow you to split checks with multiple cards so if you are going to go as a group, just make arrangements ahead of time with cash or Venmo with your friends. Have been here a couple times and each time has been good. It's a very small place owned by a family who also runs and works in the restaurant. The service is good and the people are friendly. They start you off with some chips and dip red and green (home made I believe) and they are delicious. The red dip is more of an acidic type taste like red pepper and the green tastes more garden fresh like fresh green peppers. Neither of them are really spicy but have a nice fresh taste to them. We then went on to drinks, they went with the old school glass bottle soda which obviously there is no refills here. I then ordered the Enchiladas chicken style with my choice of red sauce. (green sauce is also available) my enchiladas were excellent, they have that home made feel and taste that can't be duplicated by frozen ingredients. It came with refried beans and rice which tied the meal together nicely. There's not many hidden gems in South Jersey especially in Millville but this is one. Average Amerexican food for NJ. The restaurant has endured a sea change of different places coming and going in downtown Millville but remains a stalwart. Starting with the appetizer: The chips themselves were just fine, though I doubt they are made here (didn't taste fresh). The salsa portions were tiny. The red salsa has no heat but a delicate, deep flavor that is really quite good. But you'll run out after about 7 chips, and it's too watery to hold much. The green salsa has quite a bit of heat and a simpler flavor. My table liked it, but again it was too watery and the portion was far too small. You can keep asking for more, but they really should bring a somewhat larger bowl in the first place. And then there's a secret habañero sauce that you have to ask for. It's their spiciest, and certainly kicks right back at you, but it just tastes like concentrated pepper. You get a very tiny amount of this one. Seriously, are the salsas this expensive that you have to ration them out like salt pork during the War of 1812? The meal: My coworkers both ordered burritos, while I went for a more traditional main course of four flautas. They were small, not particularly packed with food. Decent flavor. They came with a bunch of stuff on top (cheese, avocados, lettuce) and a side of rice on the plate, with beans in a bowl. The most inspired part of this meal was the rice, which had very nice flavor undertones to it. Delicately spiced, vaguely salty-sweet, a robust orange color. Wish there was more of this with the dish, but just an average-sized lump. The beans were also pretty good, and what made them outstanding was adding some of the habañero salsa to jazz them up. Strongly recommended to go with that combo if you can stand a little heat. The burritos were not particularly large. Decent downtown Millville food, but nothing I'd come back for. I also lack perspective on what the other places are like down here. You can definitely do a lot worse. read more

We had the mahi mahi tacos on corn tortillas which was served with rice and beans. A little expensive for $17. However, the tacos were excellent and three came with the platter. That was more then enough for us to share. They even made my daughter chicken fingers, but I was a bit shocked that one small piece of chicken breast and some fries was $9. The food was amazing from the appetizers all the way to thr desert. My friend and I came in and didn't have a reservation but they sat us almost immediately on a Sunday night. We ordered the guacamole and it was served tableside, you could customise the guacamole however you would like. The two different salsas were delicious and we asked for more of the chips and salsa verde. Service was a little slow but they were very nice and professional. Had the Tostada's today. All their food is always fresh and the Tostada's never disappoint. The fresh guacamole, tomato, lettuce, sour cream and chicken on a round toasty shell explode in your mouth giving you the best taste of deliciousness ever! We order out from El Guacamole more than I can actually count. The food at one time was not all so good. But now the food is all so great I can not stand it. We order take away so my father who is homebound might enjoy the goodness of the El Guacamole bounty. I have not experienced any entree or appetizer which was not good or absolutely exciting. The Guacamole appetizer is perfect for its chunky bits of avocado and spices. I must admit it is better than my own. I have to give the burritos high five. I was in Philadelpha years ago when I experienced such a good burrito. The staff is very nice and fun to talk with when they have the time. El Guacamole is very busy on weekends and when shows are in town. If you think this is a sit down fast food Mexican you should go elsewhere. All the food is made to order and is worth the small wait. My girlfriend lives in Millville and she tried to get into El Guacamole with her daughter on a Thursday night and they were surprised that it was fully booked. So when I arrived from Baltimore, MD on Saturday and her daughter had returned to Boston we tried to get in at 1:30 PM for a late lunch. The food and the service were both top notch and the presentation of the waitress/owner preparing the fresh guacamole at our table was more than worth the entire check. Without a doubt the best guacamole I have ever had and I have been to Mexico at least seven times with my mining investments. The seafood soup that my girlfriend ordered was fantastic. I ordered three chorizo tacos and they were outstanding. Great food, good date atmosphere and a wonderfully affordable experience. Prices were very fair. Best restaurant experience in a long time and at any city for this price range. Bravo and we intend to return often. read more

Food-wise, other than the QF, what I've had thus far isn't much to write home about... but I have a lot of dishes to get through. Street tacos are good, and I love the refried beans and guac. A friend wasn't a fan of the chimichangas can't write home about much else than the QF I didn't expand my range much from there, though I can say the steak tacos are good. A friend had the chicken chimichangas, but wasn't a fan. Sides are splendid, esp the refried beans and the homemade guac. The Mexican corn, sadly, was not something I will ever order again... a far cry from my beloved elote man. Question: Would I return to El Guacamole? I love Mexican food and this is a place to visit if you want close Mexican food! It's not fast food like Chipotles, you can get good food at chipotles but this place is better. Want something quick? Chipotles is a good choice. However, even though I rate it with 5 stars, it's just an another nice, quality and authentic Mexican restaurant. I've had better but its still 5 star worthy. A very pleasant surprise! We stopped for lunch and found attractive, clean and colorful surroundings. All the dishes were freshly made to order. The arugula and mango salad was especially refreshing. The chicken torta was chock full of moist roasted chicken with plenty of lettuce tomato and a slice of rather tame pickled jalapeño. The carnitas on the taco had a very generous amount of crispy toasted pork fat, delicious but a bit greasy. The chips seemed to be housemade with a very good salsa verde and a flavorful red sauce. Stumbled upon El Guacamole while in the area for the 24 Hours of LeMons races, and the Millville Air Show. What an amazing surprise! The guacamole is fresh made at your table, the homemade salsas for chips are astounding, and the Horchata is SO delicious! I chose the pulled pork tacos for my entrée, and my friend selected the enchiladas with green sauce. Words cannot describe how delicious!!! For dessert, Paulina (the owner) told us the offerings and gave us a moment to consider. Her very pleasant son Marlon circled back to see if we had decided. We asked him for a recommendation - he suggested the plantains. All I can say is "Wow!!!" Hands down the best I ever had - due to the special touch El Guacamole lends to plantains!!! So this quaint little BYOB was SO good, we went back to El Guacamole the next day! Five stars for the food, three stars for the mediocre service during the busy lunch hour (they need more staff), and one star for the pricing. Food is delicious! Quite a variety of items you don't usually see on other Mexican restaurant menus. Ordered a Coke for $3.00 and it came out in a glass bottle, already opened. If I had known it was a bottle of Coke (no refills), I would not have ordered it. The menu needs to read "bottle of soda pop" or something similar to indicate this. I wanted to try their namesake Guacamole so I ordered a side for $2.50. It was a little metal condiment cup of Guac, I'd be surprised if it totaled more than two ounces. I ordered the three steak tacos for $8.00 and they did not come with any sides, so I ordered a side of rice for $3.00. The rice was flavorful, but small. Oh, I also had to pay $0.99 for cheese and sour cream. Bottom line, while the food is delicious, the a-la-carte pricing on accoutrements (sides) really detracts from the overall enjoyment of this place. I suggest adding a scoop of Guac and some sour cream and cheese on the side with each order of steak tacos and include rice or beans. These shouldn't be extra. Just adjust the prices accordingly. And do something about disclosing that it's $3.00 for a small glass bottle of Coke, so the customer knows what they are ordering. read more
