Handed her the menus. We're ready to leave about ten minutes later, but lo and behold! No bartender. No wait staff either. All outside smoking. How easy to drink and dash if we so inclined! If we can give zero stars we would. Asked for boneless wings, got boned wings. Then when the boneless wings were apologetically sent, they were overcooked and dry. Potato skins had spicy cheese on them, which was not mentioned on the menu, and not everyone can handle spicy food. The cook didn't follow any of the instructions the waitress wrote down, but she didn't check to see if the order was made right either. Old Oar Irish was one of places that came up.. Based on experience we always found any Irish place offers good affordable food, and this turned out to be true one more time! Yey!!! My husband ordered one of their special entrees, a complete turkey dinner which was preceded by the soup of the day, Chili and vegetable. We stopped by before a show at the LeVoy Theatre across the street. We sat at the bar and our bartender, Phil was personable and entertaining as much as he was an excellent bartender. We enjoyed an appetizer of fried pickles served w/a spicy dip. We have enjoy fried pickles in several spots- these pickles were good but I felt they were sliced to thick. The pickle had to be cut with a knife. Much better if you can just pop them in your mouth. We also ordered sandwiches- a small cheesesteak and a reuben with sweet potato fries. The fries were the BEST I have ever had. The sandwiches were good, hot and tasty. It is nice to now know we have a nice place to get drinks and a good meal before a show! Located on North High Street, the area around Old Oar House Irish Pub is fine during the day and early evening but can become really creepy late at night. Another glaring fault is that after their patrons leave, they let their old plates and food sit around for hours, even to the point that it begins to unpleasantly smell the place up. Indeed sitting down to eat amongst dirty dishes doesn't enhance ones appetite. Overall however, I've always enjoyed the food and drinks of the Old Oar House Irish Pub with my favorite being their corned beef and cabbage though not one of their listed menu items. As they do their own in house brining the taste is clean and fresh. As for service, it's slow, with those who have waited on me seemingly rather uncaring in a lazy sort of way, which is maybe the cause of the dirty dishes remaining on the bar. If it weren't for the dirty dishes and lazy seemingly uncaring attitude of the staff, I would go Four Stars, but because of that I can only, and this is at a stretch as I've seen so much better, Two Stars. read more

I went here one day with a friend for lunch. The only thing I can say about this place is the ridiculous prices of food and the beer. My friend had a Guinness at $7 a pint and I had a black and tan at $9 a pint which is absolutely price gouging. The lunch specials were $18 each and it was just okay. The bartender was nice and said does anybody want a shot , I said as long as you're buying making me think that she was going to buy us a shot so we got three green tea shots .It wasn't until I got the bill that I saw that she actually charged me $24 for the three shots. She did this to a couple other patrons too so I'm sure she drank for free on them as well. There is no way these beers should be any more than $5 a pint especially at lunch time but I got scammed but never again. At the end of the day I spent $165 before tip and I could have went to a really nice restaurant and had better food and drinks for that price. Now I see why their specials and beer menu have no prices so make sure you ask before you order. Let's face it this place has nothing special to offer it's just a dive bar in downtown millville. Check out the credit card fee at the end they charged me like they didn't charge me enough. What a joke. read more

First off, Sandy, our bartender , was very friendly! That's always a plus. Even rolled with us with our sarcastic humor and fired back some! Awesome! We had the fried pork chop special. It was okay.. the loaded tater tots were great. Even the regular tots that came with the special. Nice and crunchy! Tops! Each had a Guinness and a shot of Jameson. We ended with an Irish Car bomb. The Guinness itself could have had about a 1/2 more beer. The the shot glass itself was taller than the beer in the glass. Our waitress sat at a table at the front of the bar chatting with other servers almost the entire time. Never came over to see if everything was ok, see if we needed drink refills.... Nothing! The bartender noticed I was getting frustrated, because I wanted the check, and tried to discreetly tell her we were ready for the check. She finally comes over to ask if we need anything else...... I've been coming to this bar on and off Wednesday nights for almost a year now. Phil is pretty great; he makes the bar atmosphere feel both fun and safe. The menu is okay; their apple walnut salad is pretty darn delicious. The female bartenders have some attitude that needs to get under control. They will call you out In front of everyone; acting worried as if you're gonna walk out on them when you've never done so before. I was just trying to go to the bathroom. Jeez! That mini confrontation felt a little personal if you ask me. Get a grip! If you want a good tip then you'll treat me right, otherwise, you will get what I determine is feasibly necessary. Also, let's not dismiss the fact that "some" staff spend way more time sitting around chatting with their patrons/friends then they do actively standing/managing the bar. This isn't your hangout. This is your place of employment. Your job! Now start treating it as such or find a new gig. read more

Extremely displeased with the overall experience of dining here last night . Overpriced drinks and food (especially for what we ordered); service and quality was worse than sub-par. Ordering our food from the bartender, it was not received for a healthy 50 minutes. While waiting, the bartender and kitchen runner were having discussions (on THREE different occasions, in front of us AND other patrons) of improper orders and arguments going on in the kitchen, also adding that one order was "dropped on the floor". At one point, the bartender said she had sent back a couple of orders because they were "not right". A few minutes go by; us and the patrons we were sitting next to were told that our orders will be out "very shortly". In the meantime, the bartender engages in doing a shot of some kind of liquor with patrons at the end of the bar. "Very shortly" turned out to be 15 more minutes. The burger was well-done (not "medium" as ordered), and the shepherds pie looked hastily made, as well as being lukewarm at best. Did I also mention that the cup of soup was served lukewarm as well? After all this, and our pricey bill was delivered, the bartender said if she had known about all this, she could have done something??? Again, extremely disappointed with our experience with this establishment, and will NOT be going back ever again, and will let our many friends know of this as well. read more

"The Oar" has been my regular go to bar of choice for 12 years now...the atmosphere is always chill and the crowd that you find here is super diverse but at the same time cohesive...everyone that finds themselves at "The Oar" tends to have a good time and more times than not end up making it their home bar...the weekly food specials are almost always on point with drinks and the regular menu following suit...the service is always top knotch and there is hardly ever any drama...id say if youre new you are most likely leaving having made several new friends...on a scale from 1-10 (10 being the best)...i give this bar a solid 13 read more

It was our first time eating at thee Old Oar House and it definitely won't be our last. We were attending a play across the street at the Levoy Theater and we stopped in to have dinner before the play started. Our waitress was very friendly and greeted us as soon as we sat down. We chose to sit in the bar area to take in all of the excitement. We ordered hummus as an appetizer which was very tasty and for dinner I ordered the chicken pot pie and my husband ordered a cheeseburger. Both of our meals were delicious and my husband even stated "that was probably the best cheeseburger I ever had" which says a lot. Our experience was wonderful and we will be visiting them again when we are in town which will be very soon. read more
