    Chicken burrito with "red sauce."
    Leigh L.

Yikes. I was in the area for work and figured I'd stop here for lunch, knowing nothing about the place except Mexican sounded good. I ordered a chicken burrito with the "red sauce." Not salsa, "sauce." That should have been my first sign. The service for takeout was quick; they brought it out in less than 10 minutes. I took the bag and styrofoam box with the burrito the 20 feet to my car and saw the box was dripping with the "red sauce." I thought that was odd because usually the contents of a burrito are inside it, but I brought it back with an open mind. I attached a photo of the burrito. Wow. The tortilla was bizarrely slathered in this "red sauce" that tasted like watered down BBQ sauce with no zest or heat to it. I believe one of the ingredients was canned tomato paste or sauce because of the strange bright orange hue it left my hands. You absolutely could not hold it without getting the red sauce all over your hands and clothes, so I tried to eat it with a fork and knife. They advertised "jack cheddar cheese" on the menu and the shredded cheese on top of the red sauce on the outside of the burrito (???) looked like plasticky Kraft "cheese." The sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gallo were all, weirdly, lumped outside the burrito itself. I thought the purpose of a burrito was to have the contents inside it...? The taste of the burrito's contents (just dark meat chicken, refried beans and rice) was a mix of bland and truly bad. I tried to eat the burrito but every time I'd smell it, it smelled kind of mildewy, like the smell of a dishwasher and I just threw it out. I couldn't believe it was $13. Never again.

Great margaritas. Food is mediocre at best. Beef fajitas tasted like old meat. Nothing special.

There are two parts to this review the first will be the food, it was amazing. The second will be…read morethe service, it was abysmal. 1) The food was mostly delicious. It was late in the evening so we opted to share Queso Fundido and the Texas Fajitas. The Queso Fubdido was meh. Nothing terrible about it but nothing good either. The fajitas were delicious. As a Texan I still find humor when restaurants name something for Texas and then deliver a dish that has nothing to do with Texas but the fajitas were delicious regardless. Thin strips of steak and chicken. A healthy portion of shrimp. So good. I love when a sizzling plate puts a little char on the veggies and this was done to perfection. Absolutely delicious. My only complaint is that they put cilantro on their guacamole. I am one of the 14% who think it tastes like soap. I love avocados, I love guacamole, I can't do it with cilantro. I hate that cilantro has taken off in recent years. Please make guacamole without cilantro. It can be added. 2) The service. Ugh We were seated promptly and had water and menus almost immediately the young waiter was pleasant and took our orders. I asked if I could keep the menu to look over the drink list and he obliged. Everything going well to this point. When he came back with the food, he never did come back to get a drink order, he turned and left after grabbing the menu. I tried to get his attention, not happening. This is where it really goes downhill. Not once during the entire evening was our water refilled. Not once. I made multiple attempts to get his attention, we even made eye contact a couple of times, and no water refill. People sitting around us had bottles of water to refill their glasses with, not us. We had spent a long day hiking and, while not parched, were thirsty. When the food was delivered I asked for water but he had turned around and walked away. He was very attentive to the difficult table next to us. Difficult only because he couldn't figure out how to split the check between five people. He came back and forth to their table no less than six times and still wouldn't bring us more water. As we finished our meal we decided to try a piece of Tres Leches cake and waited and waited and waited for him to come by. He came by, still trying to figure out the bill for the table next to us, but never even looked toward our table. He was literally standing one foot away from me at one point and I called to him and he never turned around. Finally my wife stood and motioned for him. He finally came over so we could ask for the check. I also asked for a water refill. He brought the check but no water refill seriously. We believe in tipping well and did tip this person 18% but our usual is 25%. To sum it all up, delicious food, lousy service.

Being from maynard since I was a kid, I've always tried to be a patron to the local restaurants…read more Tonight I was in the mood for Mexican. Since Bueno y Sano left a few months ago, there hasn't been another Mexican restaurant other than El Huipil. So I figured id give them a try since a lot of people in town likes them. First I tried to place a take out order on the way home from work. I called twice. Both times I let the phone ring at least 3 minutes. No answer. So I drove downtown and went in to find a half occupied restaurant. With no AC to boot. On a 90 degree night. I walked up to the bar to order. Again probably waited 4 minutes until the bartender acknowledged me. Placed my order. Got 2 burritos, an enchilada and 2 orders of churros. With tip it came to $96. A little ridiculous for Mexican take out but I figured if its that good, then ill pay the money. I get home to find my burritos missing 3 items that I ordered. I ordered a chicken burrito with rice, grilled onions, lettuce, Pico de gayo, and hot sauce. I got a grilled quesadilla with chicken rice and lettuce only. None of the other things and it was grilled. You dont grill a burrito. I've never had a grilled burrito. Its a quesadilla. It was so dry and bland, I dumped the 2md one away. My wife got the enchilada with red sauce. There was no red sauce. And the rice was again, so bland. The only good thing were the churros. But at $12.50 for 6, definitely not worth it. After $96, im disgusted and pretty upset. For that money, I could have gone to a sit down meal somewhere. I honestly dont know why this place is so highly recommended. Ive been to A LOT of Mexican restaurants and by far this one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Ill keep heading into the city for my Mexican food.
