Went to Tequilas on 5.2.26 for takeout like we have a dozen times before. We always get the mango quesadilla and 2 tortilla soups (bowl not the cup) I got the order home and the quesadilla was perfect but the soups were not even close. It was a cup size order 1/2 the normal amount of broth and 1/2 the normal amount of chicken. Not only that it was missing the chipotle peppers and the tortilla chips. I went back to the restaurant and showed it to the hostess and her words were "oh no that's not right let me get my manager." I calmly explained to him the situation and all the while I am talking to him he is glaring at me like he wants to fight me. Again I was calm and polite and asked if he thought this was an acceptable product? He continued to angrily stare at me. After 10 seconds of silence he asked if I wanted a new one. I said yes. Tequila's Mexican Cantina opened in Groton recently in the former Ixtapa Mexican Grill & Cantina. They have other locations in Chelmsford, Hudson MA, and Wakefield. This casual Mexican restaurant and bar has a cozy and noisy atmosphere with booths, high top tables and a long bar with seating and TVs. The food menu offerings include street tacos, birria jalisco, tortas, burritos, fajitas, enchiladas, quesadillas, nachos, flautas, , soups, salads, and desserts are moderate prices. The bar offers 10 draft beers, bottled beers, wine, tequilas, margaritas, cocktails, and martinis. I stopped by for dinner recently and the place was very busy. I decided to sit up at the bar for prompt service. I was given a menu and an ice water. I placed my order for Chicken Fajitas ($21 plus tax) and was given a complimentary basket of warm crunchy chips and three dips (green salsa, brown dip, creamy orange dip), which was enjoyable as I watched March Madness play on the TV. The sizzling fajitas arrived within 15 minutes with the accompaniments of pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, shredded cheese, Mexican rice, refried beans with cheese and 3 warm tortillas, a bit dry. The sizzling iron plate had marinated and seasoned tender chicken pieces, peppers, and onions. I was hungry and I finished off the good portions of tasty food along with the chips and dips. I passed on dessert and got the check which was $22.31 with tax and before tip. Overall, the food was tasty and very filling to eat. The service here was prompt with the bartender and a couple kitchen runners taking care of things including bringing out chips and dips, food, extra ice water, and clearing my plates as I finished. read more

Late Cinco de Mayo post - my bestie and I came for dinner and there was a bit of wait, understandable. Drinks and food was good. I ordered the spiked horchata and it was well made. Normally some places it will be watery and flavorless but in this case they did a great job. Chips were crispy but the salsas that came with it was average. For apps, we ordered taquitos that were filled with chorizo and mashed potatoes, it was really yummy! For entree I got the Quesa-birria and o-yum Cheesy and consome was done right, everything had the perfect amount of seasoning and not overwhelming. read more

Stopped by on my way home craving some tacos, was seated quickly and brought out their chips and three different dipping options. The music here was a bit loud for me but the decor was pleasant and it had good lighting. The staff was nice and accommodated my request to switch up one of the taco plates, I did not feel rushed or as if I was being inconvenient to them. As for the chips and salsa, the cheese sauce had kind of an odd flavor, not for me, but the other two were okay, wished for a slight bite of heat for at least one of them as they were a little bland, and the chips were both round and triangular as if some were from a bag. Ordered the Panchitos Mule to drink which was very pretty and had that perfect hit of ginger, super refreshing. For dinner I ordered the pork carnitas and Tokyo tacos to really see the range of flavors and style tacos they advertise. When they came out they smelled absolutely delicious. Starting with the pork carnitas the meat was juicy and well seasoned, the cheese was melty and the, what I believe were pickled onion, on top gave a great acidity to break through that really heavy cheese and meat. The Tokyo tacos were also cooked really well but the flavor was a bit more subtle and the tortilla had a bit less give than I usually like but all in all very good. In regard to the side of beans and rice the rice was very nice but I am not so big on the beans, there was some kind of after taste I personally was not a fan of. Those carnitas though, blew me away. This spot feels like a nice date night spot, or night alone to have a drink and bite of food. I will definitely be back and recommend if you're in the area to stop in and give it a try yourself. read more

The "new" place is doing a great job! It doesn't smell weird or musty when you walk in anymore. The old design smells bad. New interior feels more spacious. Less colorful. More muted. But nice. Delicious food, friendly staff, beautiful interior. Portions are huge, so consider that when ordering. The chips and salsa are phenomenal, so is the horchata. My dad got hand rolled tamales with some bomb rice. My brother got a burrito that was the size of a newborn baby. I got the empanadas (appetizer) and it was so huge, at least 3 people could eat them and be completely full. The staff were very helpful and efficient, the wait was pretty short. The inside of the restaurant had a really fun atmosphere and design. I definitely recommend this restaurant, but just be ready to take home a ton of leftovers if you get your own meal. read more

This is our third visit, and I have given it five star ratings prior. Today was a problem. When placing my order, I informed the server that I could not have any onions. He repeated the order and that there was not to be any onions. It must have been onion day. My partners mango quesadilla was loaded in onions and not very much mango. My mother's fajita was half onion and half everything else. My dish came loaded with onions. I had to go and find the server and told him to take the dish away. SO DISAPPOINTED in this restaurant. (Groton location). The food is very good here but the management leaves something to be desired. I'm not sure if there is foul play going on or if there was some honest mistake. Over the holidays I bought some gift cards, and as a promotion I got 20% of what I paid in gift cards for myself. So I went tonight to use my $15 in gift cards. When it came time to pay and she went to run the cards, the waitress told me there was $0 on each. I was annoyed so I asked to speak with the manager. After some time she returned and said the manager was not there, and she didn't know where he was or if/when he was returning. She told me to pay the bill and come back another day to figure it out! I asked to speak to the person in charge. She told me no one was in charge. "Just servers" were there. Seriously? How can a manager leave the restaurant with no one in charge? I asked her to call the manager on the phone. She said there's nothing he can do unless he's here. She didn't want to call him. Finally she called after I raised my tone, and insisted she call because I wasn't leaving until this was resolved. After some time she returned, having spoken to the manager on the phone, and she said the manager was able to apply the $15 gift cards to the bill. This whole experience really left a bad taste in my mouth. I would be beyond livid if the $75 gift I gave over the holidays doesn't work! (I just asked the person and she has not used the cards yet.) And if those cards do work... how coincidental that my 2 gift cards that I didn't pay for (and thus didn't get a receipt that day for) didn't work. And that the manager left without telling the staff where he was going or when he'd be back or what to do if a situation comes up? Or to tell them to call him if needed?! Haven't been here since it was Ixtapa, used to come frequently, but we won't be back. Thought we'd give it a go since we like the Tequila's in Chelmsford. The renovation was well done but it's very dark. We arrived at 5pm, no wait, we were the only ones seated in the restaurant and there was one other couple in the bar area. Pretty quiet for a Friday night. Chips and a medley of "salsas" along with water were provided immediately. Drinks arrived quickly, the traditional margaritas were very good. We ordered the tableside guacamole as an appetizer, which was good. We had ordered our entrees at the same time as the guacamole and ,unfortunately, the food showed up at the same time. (Only took about 5 minutes to get our food which tells me that the food is not fresh/made to order.) Our server should have held our entrees until she saw that we had gotten our appetizer. I got the chili rellenos which were tasty but didn't have much seafood , I saw one piece of shrimp. The rice was WAY overcooked, the texture of oatmeal. My husband and our friend both had the steak and chicken fajitas, one was served sizzling and the other was lukewarm. There were plenty of onions/peppers but not much meat to speak of considering they were each $23. We spoke to the server regarding the issues, we were not looking for compensation just wanted them to be aware and hopefully fix the issues in the future. We were never approached by a manager so I assume the server didn't tell them and that nothing will be addressed. The best part of the whole meal were the margaritas and guacamole so maybe a good place to go to watch a game, have a drink and get some apps. As a FYI, our bill for 3 people, with a 20% tip, was $150. read more

Tequilas is a chain that recently opened in Groton. We have been several times since opening and finally getting around to writing a review. Let's simply say I'm not a fan. Prices are high for mexican, portions small and food really not all that great. On our most recent visit, I ordered a Carnita burrito that was essentially a flour tortilla, full of rice, largely devoid of any meat or anything else. My daughter had chicken fajitas which perhaps had four or 5 ounces of chicken on the entire plate for $21. We ordered tableside guacamole that we had to send back because the avocados used to make it were rotten or some other ingredients on the cart had gone bad. It literally made me sick. Service was prompt and friendly. My entrée came out as well as my daughters sides, but the chicken did not show up to the table for quite some time The server told us it would be right up, and then proceeded to take multiple orders from the table surrounding us. After approximately 15 minutes her chicken arrived to the table, cold (to her defense she was the only server working the floor and was clearly busy). After multiple visits, I find the food to be consistently average at best and the rotten Guac is the cherry on top. If we go back, which is not likely, I will stick to the margaritas, which are generally good. read more

Early dinner Saturday Oct. 07 for party of 6. Service was fine. Music was a mexican hip hop (?) or something equally non traditional that was too loud and then Rod Stewart's "if you want my body and you think I'm sexy" started. The music competed with the wait staff and manager with their loud ring tones, loud conversations and laughing as if they were at a party and they were on the other side of the partition next to our table. Even one of our kids said "What's going on?" It was VERY distracting. The environment became a little club ish. Menu prices were high considering the portion sizes. Fajitas had tiny pieces of chicken and the refried beans in a very small bowl equaled about 2 tablespoons. Same portions for street tacos. Seafood enchiladas didn't even come with beans or rice. Finally a really great authentic place to eat Mexican food in the westford and Groton area. The family who owns the place is originally from Guadalajara and the food is authentic and really good. We are from California and we love real Mexican food. We were so happy when Tequilas opened. We go there at least 1x per week. The Sunday brunch is really great as well. read more

Gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because the margaritas are too expensive and small! The food is delicious, quite the upgrade from Ixtapa which is what used to be in its place. The margaritas are much smaller and more expensive. I shouldn't pay more than $13 for a margarita with a decent tequila and Cointreau/ fresh juices. It came to $15+ and that is crazy for the small size of the drink. Service was good and everyone was friendly. Adjust the drink prices and sizes and it will be a 5/5!! read more
