OMG! OMG! OMG! Since discovering this place I think someone in my office eats here daily. That someone may be me! Sure you can go in and buy their chips (best tortilla chips on the planet!). And their pico is now my go to pico (I have been making my own but this is as good). And if you need tortillas, please don't just dash into Walmart and grab some prepackaged crap. Go here. They are fresh and not filled with preservatives and made here. Right here. Support local! And get the brisket burrito. Ask for it smothered with queso or green chile sauce. I Love this spot I wanted breakfast burritos this morning and I wanted to go somewhere new that I haven't been to. This is the spot I chose for my family. These ladies will be seeing me again some other time for breakfast burritos as well as other items off the lunch menu! These are huge breakfasts burritos for only $5!!!! They believe in making you full! it's a spot for take out only. No need to bring the family. You can walk in and order they even have a drive up area to order at as well. What a great find!! I've already been here three times in the last week to get food for my roommate and myself. The prices are fantastic. The food quality is top notch. I don't eat meat but the proprietor made me a breakfast burrito that was delicious with lots of flavorful green chilies. Roomie has so far had brisket burrito, posole, and both the green and red burritos. He said each was delicious. Not too salty, not too greasy, just good home cooked style Mexican food. Omg! Yum! The address is ACTUALLY 150 E Madrid and they close at 3. The prices are unreal and the ladies are so sweet. The food is Amazing! For their corn chips and Tortillas... they cook the corn and make the goods... it's not store bought masa. And you can really taste the difference. Wow! We took the 12 rolled Tacos (which comes with queso, salsa, and a salad), a pint of green chile with meat and potatoes (plus we tasted the red...yum!), chips, and a pack of flour Tortillas. Stopped in for egg burritos with bacon. While the price is great for the size burrito you get, that's where it ends. The potatoes were under cooked, white shreds and tasteless. The "bacon" was specks of color throughout the burrito. Could've been bacon? Could've been burnt eggs? We did not enjoy our burritos, pay a little more and get real chunks of bacon in your breakfast burritos. read more

Oh people please go here and support this new place that's cooking up a storm of fantastic Mexican. Two super sweet señoras waited on me today and patiently explained some unfamiliar items to this gringa. I chose the brisket burrito bañado smothered in green chile sauce. Madre dios! The meat was so tender and full of flavor, like a Mexican Italian Beef. It was enormous, too, and only $6. I could eat only one third of it. I'm so glad I grabbed a bag of freshly made tortillas for only $1.75. Wow, I'll be making two more meals with the leftovers! El Indio is just a few short blocks from Apodaca Park. So flavorful, quick, and each made by hand to your specifications. We had 4 rolled tacos served with queso sauce and lettuce/tomato blend on the side. We preferred the beef. We shared a chili relleno burrito. Would recommend it. The beef burrito they made for another customer was enormous- would easily feed two. The burritos are large & worth every penny. The rolled tacos are crispy, chicken is tender, not dry, not greasy & freshly made. The lettuce, tomato & cheese side is very green & fresh. Best burrito I have ever eaten! It was amazing! And the customer service was outstanding.

I really like this place for fresh-made salsas, chips, tortillas and, when available, green chile tamales. However, most recently they were out of green chile and had only frozen "red". I bought a dozen red anyway. The tamales had a good flavor, but were wrapped in unusually, very thick masa. So much masa that the shredded red beef was barely noticeable. Hopefully this was just an inexperienced preparer, and my next visit will be better. read more

Their idea of a taco salad is to pile on a bunch of lettuce on top of a bunch of tostadas--NOT a taco shell as you would expect. Then you have to dig through the tostadas to find the meager meat and beans. No wonder it was only $8.00! read more

I am writing this update for the El Indio Tortilla Shop as I may have been over-exuberant after my initial visit and I don't want to mislead readers. On additional visits I found the bistro not quite so great. I had suspected that the drive up window service might be a problem and when I tried it one time it proved to be a nightmare. Let's just say avoid it if you can. A second green chile smothered burrito was not as good as the first I experienced. Rate it a "B." It was big and filling for the price but the flavor was sort of pedestrian. I also tried out their so-called "taco salad" and found it to be a joke as another recent reviewer pointed out. What seemed like a good deal going in....about $8.00....ended up a terrible deal. Instead of your usual taco salad in a nice tostada shell the El Indio version was a bunch of ground beef and cheese laid on a pile of Fritos corn chips. It was really poor. Rate it a "D." So, if you go to El Indio you can expect a poor performance at the drive up, pleasant service inside, prices that are among the lowest in town, and spotty quality. I don't know that I will be visiting much in the future. Rate the overall experience about TWO-and-THREE-QUARTER STARS.....meaning slightly below average for the dining experience. read more

The rolled tacos are so good that is all I ever order. I get a dozen for my wife and I with the salsa and queso on the side so the tacos stay crispy on the way home. The salsa isn't very hot but the flavor is great. Same with the queso. I get a hankering once or twice a month and have go pick up some rolled tacos. The staff is super friendly and usually have your order ready 10-15 mins after calling it in. You won't be let down eating here. read more
