New Mexican green chile enchilada plate
    Trish G.

We had a fantastic dining experience at Hacienda de Mesilla. The food/drinks and service were stellar. The restaurant was clean and beautifully decorated for Christmas. My husband had the green chile enchiladas with black beans and Mexican corn casserole and I had the Torizo rolled tacos. The chef did an excellent job with her rendition of tofu "chorizo". The dishes were made with fresh, quality ingredients. Glad we saved room for the egg nog cake. Jessica, our server, was so nice and knowledgeable about the dishes and drinks. She always made sure to check on us. Will definitely be back when in the area!

This place is amazing. Had lunch with my husband. Service was great, staff very polite and our server was very friendly. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and fries which was cooked as I asked. My husband ordered the Hacienda green chile hatch. Our food was very delicious and definitely will be back again.

    New town new place!

Great look to the place on the out side. Kind of a maze in the inside but adds character. Great service. Now the important part is I had the baseball steak with the mashed potatoes and broccolini. And a side of a crab cake and a house margarita. Margarita wasn't very good at all way too bitter. Maybe a new bartender? The steak was cooked medium not medium rare, still flavorful and tender. That was a good meal in itself. Then I tried the crab cake, poured mush and had no color like grey kinda scared to eat haha. The Brussel medley was good we will see if the cake stays down. Maybe will update haha

We always love coming here. Food is delicious, nice cozy atmosphere, service is always great. It's also a hotel. We stayed here one time and our room was huge. They also have a swimming pool and nice garden area.

We ducked in here during April 2024 for lunch - immediately we were impressed with the decor and service here. I had the Blue Corn Blue Crab Enchiladas - which come with a side of jazzed up beans, tricked out corn, and some sort of slaw. Every bite of every item was simply superb. The enchiladas were the highlight, yet the sides were incredibly delicious, as well. I could've had each one as just a huge main. A big pot of beans is never a bad thing - well, maybe not in the moment. I could taste the blue corn tortillas that made up each enchilada - when you are in New Mexico - blue corn is a must. The flavor blended perfectly somehow with the seafood - big chunks of crab meat and shrimp blended with cheese and an amazing sauce. I couldn't get over how damned tasty they were - I have never had anything like them. Come hungry and try to slow down and relish every bite. It will be difficult, but you can manage.

The staff was exceptional in their level of service. The food in the restaurant was excellent. The rooms are beautifully decorated with custom ceramic tile designs. The staff are exceptionally cheerful and love their jobs. The restaurant can accommodate many food allergies. The chefs are very talented.

    Just getting started!

I found this place on Yelp, it looked awesome. Then I pulled up to it and walked in and...my first impression was...not good. It reminded me of a restaurant in a Disney resort. Depending on who you are, this could be positive or negative. For me, it was the latter. However, the food, the service, and the prices were not at all like a Disney resort eatery, and that's a very good thing! This place has tons of original dishes, many based on, inspired by, or authentically New Mexican. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. And to top it all off, they have NM beer on tap as well. This is one of those places where you can choose between multiple areas to dine in. The "dinging room" looked hella fancy, so we chose the "cantina" which was hella casual.

Good service and ambiance. Food itself is a bit below to what I expected. Portions are pretty decent and would NOT recommend the Sangrias

Ask the Community - Hacienda de Mesilla

Has anyone stayed at the Hacienda hotel, and if so, how was it?

They need to update. The beds are really uncomfortable. The bathrooms are dated. Clean yes but far from memorable.

Do I need a reservation for a Saturday afternoon?

    No, you should be fine.

    So...does Kelli still sing?

To my knowledge the restaurant has changed ownership and therefore the old owner isn't singing there anymore.

They are simply magic here both in terms of flavor complexity and texture. Their texture here is truly the best. I literally was licking the plate at the end of each of these. I tried all four of their moles as plates and also as a sampler on four different occasions and all are very complex, rich, creamy and satisfying. -Mole Poblano. "A not so sweet ajillo pepper mole sauce with traditional ingredients and a touch of Oaxaca chocolate." This was the first we tried here and what brought us back for more. -Mancha Manteles mole: This mole is described on their menu as: "Sweet pineapple, red apples, fried plantain and a wonderful choice of spices make this mole a great and unique experience". This mole like their other ones came out piping hot, creamy, thick, complex and delicious. -Mole Negro: Chichilo pepper and tomatillo mole sauce with a smoky taste and a hint of ash. -Mole Verde o Pipian. Toasted pumpkin seeds and tomatillo mole sauce with a hint of hoja santa (root beer plant) My husband and I get their enmoladas stuffed with vegetables and get double serving of the black beans (rice has chicken stock so we avoid it to keep the meal vegan/ vegetarian). The plates are always piping hot and soooo yummy. When they have all four moles available they offer a sampler as well. We did this on our last visit and it was fun to revisit the 4 moles we had their side by side and compare them. I really love the ambiance out on the peaceful patio and there's cover form the sun. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. They were located a two minute drive from the hotel. When we arrived, the restaurant was pretty empty, and since it was during Superbowl we thought it would stay that way. We were wrong. There was a party in the back and tables in the dining room started filling up. We were greeted immediately and then drink orders were taken. I ordered the Thai Tea with 1/2 and 1/2 (vs coconut milk) and hubby had the ice tea with coconut. My drink came with a refill (unheard of for Thai Tea) and he had unlimited refills. For dinner he ordered the Ma Sa Man Curry with rice and salad, and I had the Pad Thai. We both enjoyed our meals. Our waitress was knowledgeable and delightful. The dinner for two was extremely reasonable, less than what we pay at home for a lunch special for two. Highly recommend!

While on a Southwest road trip, we found ourselves spending the night in Las Cruces, New Mexico…read more When we asked the staff at our hotel for a local dining recommendation, they pointed us toward the historic village of Mesilla, just south of Las Cruces. It turned out to be excellent advice. Mesilla is a charming, historic community with an unmistakable Old World feel. Founded in 1848, it once served as the Confederate capital of the Arizona Territory and is perhaps best known as the site where the notorious outlaw Billy the Kid was tried and convicted of murder in 1881. Today, the village centers around a picturesque plaza surrounded by beautifully preserved adobe buildings, shops, and restaurants that make it well worth a visit. One of Mesilla's most famous restaurants is La Posta de Mesilla, which has been serving traditional New Mexican cuisine since 1939. Over the decades, it has expanded into a sprawling 17,000-square-foot complex made up of a maze of interconnected dining rooms. Its menu is built around century-old family recipes featuring the renowned red and green chiles grown nearby in the Hatch and Mesilla valleys. After what felt like a two- or three-minute walk through the restaurant to reach our table, we ordered margaritas and waited for the customary basket of chips. I added an order of chile con queso along with both the red and green salsas. Our drinks, chips, and salsas arrived promptly. The salsas were pleasantly spicy and packed more heat than the average restaurant version, something I appreciated. Unfortunately, the chile con queso never arrived. After unsuccessfully trying to catch the attention of one of the busy servers, we finally flagged someone down to remind them. By the time it reached our table, our entrées were only moments away, leaving little opportunity to enjoy it with the chips. My wife ordered two tacos with rice and beans. I chose the Folded Tacos--three deep-fried folded corn tortillas filled with seasoned ground beef and chicken, then topped with lettuce, tomato, and shredded cheese, served alongside refried beans and rice. So, how was the food? It was simply okay. Nothing on either plate stood out. The dishes lacked the bold flavors, vibrant presentation, and satisfying textures that make New Mexican cuisine so memorable. That said, my sampling of their food only included two plates. Perhaps another entree would have delivered a more authentic taste. Service added to the disappointment. It was slow, disjointed, and often difficult to find a server when we needed one. Since we visited on a Sunday evening, it's possible the restaurant was short-staffed, but regardless of the reason, the overall dining experience suffered. If you're visiting the Las Cruces area, don't miss Mesilla. It's one of southern New Mexico's true gems and absolutely deserves a stop. As for La Posta de Mesilla, It's an experience and could be worth a visit.
