We've been traveling and stopped here for lunch. We were greeted and seated. Our waitress brought us chips, salsa, and bean dip, all 3 were delicious! We ordered from the lunch menu that came with rice and beans. I had an enchilada and tostada with shredded beef. Absolutely delicious sauce on the enchilada, the beef was tasty, and lots of cheese. The tostada was perfectly sized with shredded beef, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. My son had the enchilada with a chicken taco. I am all for supporting local businesses, however, I cannot get over the food on my previous encounters. my picky eater aside (he doesn't like anything) my husband's cheese enchilada was made with American cheese slices. the fountain machine needed a filter change it tasted as if they were pumping river water into the place and serving it and I was not happy with my meal. we tried this place several times and each resulted in a poor experience. As my teen would probably say, this place was "Meh." Our server was very nice and friendly. The food took quite a while to come. It was okay, although one of my sons loved the bacon cheeseburger he ordered. Who knew? We waited for quite a while to get the check, but given it never came, we decided to go up to the register to pay. Maybe that's protocol here, but we weren't told to do that. Saint Anthony has mostly American food but fortunately there's a Mexican spot in between it all that is liked by the locals. After I ordered I was given some complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were surprisingly thin and fresh tasting. There were two salsas: a spicy red one and a bean one. I was hesitant on the bean one at first but it actually tasted pretty good. For food I ordered the macho burrito ($9.39) with beef steak which is a burrito covered in enchilada sauce and cheese on top as well as tomatoes and lettuce. The burrito was well balanced and you could get a little bit of everything in every bite. It was cheesy and the sauce was good too. The sour cream helps to lighten up the sauce. They have domestic and imported beers as well. The food came out really quick, the service was great, and the prices were pretty good. If you want non-American food in Saint Anthony you won't go wrong here. read more

Small town with only a few restaurants. The food was good and inexpensive. They serve bottled beer with various domestic choices and some Mexican. That's inexpensive, too. Staff tries really hard and is nice. However, they're uncoordinated, disorganized, and at times in a state of confusion. Hope they get it together soon! We were waited on by 4 different staff members, and only one seemed to have things straight. Chips and salsa were meh. Bean dip was quite good! This all comes free. In good case, we had to ask for it twice. With other tables, it came long after their entrees were delivered. Had the tacos carbon and enjoyed it. Large portion. Very messy to eat the tacos, though, as they were buried under lettuce, beans, guacamole, etc. Pouring on hot sauce really gave it a good flavor. Seated right away. Free parking in a large lot. Think Americanized Mexican. Cuisine is not authentic. Expect slow service and allow extra time. read more

We stayed at the inn next door and ate here for dinner. It was great! We shared a burrito and the three enchilada plate. The burrito was fantastic - it was fresh, flavorful and huge! This would be plenty for one and can easily be shared. The three enchilada plate was great. We ordered a chicken, shredded beef, and shredded pork enchilada to try a little of everything. My favorite was the shredded beef followed by the chicken. The enchilada sauce was great. I thought the service was good and fast and it was clean. I recommend. read more

My husband and I stayed here for a pit stop on our way to Yellowstone. The airbnb that we stayed in didn't have a coffee maker (*GASP!*), so I yelped the only open restaurant nearby. My favorite things about this place is the service and value, the food and coffee were mediocre. We were promptly greeted when we entered and were seated at a booth. My coffee-addiction eyes must have indicated that I haven't fed on coffee yet as he asked us if we'd like some coffee. He brought us our drinks and took our orders, when this girl showed up and took over as the server. She greeted us with a smile as she brought us our orders and refilled our drinks. I got the steak and eggs ($8!!!) and my husband got the french toast ($6!!!). The portions were HUGE and the stead was nicely flavored, though a tad chewy. The food was decent Mexican; nothing bad, yet nothing to rave about. The portion sizes are solid and the prices are good. Quite a bit of variety - and burgers for those that don't like Mexican food. The waitresses only took our order and brought out the food. Never checked on us nor refilled drinks. With all the spicy food, I needed to track someone down to refill our water. Would not recommend. No tequila, no cheese dip. Ok fine. Waitress recommended a "chilata" but couldn't really describe it to me other than sour. I said sure, why not I'm sure it's great! Then asks what kind of beer - I didn't want beer, but she assured me it was a delicious beer with some sour in it, ok fine. But she brought me a beer Bloody Mary, which I can't stand and if anyone had mentioned tomato juice, it would have been a hard no. So after a sip, I put it on the end of the table and asked the waitress for a water. I did not ask to be refunded, but the man behind the counter quickly told my server I would still have to pay for it. So we then decided that we weren't welcome there with that sort of mentality. So I asked for the check. We had maybe 3 chips, but had to pay for the chips and salsa and my I drank drink. I realize that the post-Covid restaurant world is tough, but I at least expect to be treated reasonable. Save yourself the headache and try to find something else. But good luck, not many options! This has become my favorite place to eat lunch in St. Anthony. They have an unusually diverse menu for a small town Mexican restaurant. One of the unique things about El Jaliciense is the variety of meat options. In addition to the standard shredded beef, chicken, and ground beef, you can also choose spicy pork, chorizo, or the surprisingly good fried pork. Every meal starts with chips, salsa, and refried beans. They have a good variety of combination lunch specials. The tamale and enchilada is a favorite. They also have some large burrito options that are pretty good too. A personal favorite is the Nachos Jaliciense-- a huge plate of classic nachos with your choice of meat smothered in cheese and jalapeños (see my posted photo). It is by far the most filling nacho meal in the area. It could literally feed a small family. The place is admittedly a little quirky. For example, several of the meat options are diced, which is quite unusual. They also serve a wide variety of hamburgers and sandwiches. While many dishes won't qualify as purely authentic Mexican food, there are some regional dinner menu items that you simply can't find in the trendy "fresh-Mex" places like Costa Vida or Cafe Rio. The "Pollo a la diabla" (spicy chicken sauteed with veggies) and "Camarones Monterrey" (prawns wrapped in bacon) are really a treat. Once a secret, the place is getting busy among the locals at lunch time, so come early to get a seat. read more

Tasty chips and salsa after quite a wait to get our order. Average Mexican fare in a very worn-out restaurant. This appears to be the only game in town in a restaurant dry region. The friendly owner took over our table for a very worn-out server that appeared to need a break or to head home. Service was poor probably due to only "worn-out server" helping the owner in this busy spot. Maybe the winter will give the owner time to get the place in order. read more

This place is awesome! We ordered burritos for dinner last night and loved them so much that we returned for breakfast. By the way, I'm a vegetarian so it's always a struggle to find yummy food on the road but this place did not disappoint. I ate the veggie burrito and my nephew had the fajita burrito. For breakfast I ordered the huevos rancheros and my nephew had a bacon egg and cheese omelette. All meals were well prepared and incredibly tasty. My only complaint is that the portions are insanely huge! So, be prepared to share unless you can eat truck-driver sized portions. I've traveled around the country quite a bit and have never come across a Mexican restaurant that I would recommend to my friends in Texas or California. I would recommend this place, for its food, to my friends. There is however the question of service. The dining experience isn't just about the food. We stayed at the hotel next door which was busy. We didn't want to lose our parking space. Not really sure what kind of restaurant this was we ventured over. My Burrito I ordered was also cold the plate was really warm but the Burrito inside was Luke warm at best I started eating it immediately. The quality of food is pretty good the staff is friendly and nice but there just not very attentive to the needs of those that were in our group then they didn't give someone in our group thier whole meal right away. There is a wide spectrum when it comes to mexican food. There is your authentic mexican on one end, and then there is taco bell on the other. This is much closer to authentic. This isn't a chain so in order to try it you'll have to meander down to St. Anthony Idaho. It's worth the trip! El Jaliciense offers your standard mexican restaurant offerings, but high quality. I think we've all experienced cold beans, or greasy burrito before, but I find that's just not the case here. One of the best parts about this place is the consistent quality. They have a wide variety of meals, and after multiple trips, I've yet to try something I didn't like. Their burritos are the size of a small child, usually smothered with cheese. One of the meat selections is "fried pork" and though that sounds like something you'd get at a county fair, it's delicious shredded pork with slight crisp to it. Muy rico! Sadly, because some patrons would come, be seated, eat chips for an hour and leave, they wait until you have placed your order to bring chips, delicious salsa, and hot refried beans. (Side note: I never experienced the hot beans before I moved to Idaho. I'm sold on it) It's a small price to pay for food this good, but don't think it's because they aren't friendly or hospitable. read more
