Stopped in at the suggestion of other co-workers and was NOT disappointed! Three tacos stuffed with wonderful Mexican cheeses and a side order of beans that covered an entire plate. The beans had a wonderful consistency and tasted as good as home made. I cannot wait to go in again to eat my way through the menu! (I also went a few days later for take out to take to work for lunch and they were wonderful). I am from Southern Arizona and have long waited for Mexican food that tastes as good as home...I think I finally found it!!!! read more

Everyone will have different experiences, but mine at El Maguey have been great each time! The margaritas on Thursdays are like $2 and are not watered down! I've tried a few things but found my go-to favorites and it just hits the spot for me. Their salsa is the way I like it and the service has been quick and nothing has been wrong with an order yet. Seriously NOT impressed! The only reason this place got any stars from me is because of the margaritas, and the salsa was ok but the rest of the food was lacking in presentation, flavor and freshness. Enchiladas came with some funky burnt tasting rice and we're all stuffed with the same mystery meat, no refried beans or guacamole. Taco salad had no veggies outside of a half slice of tomato, and it was runny/greasy??? The burrito plate was also less than wonderful, also seemed to have beans that were watery. They are anything but authentic and we will not be going back. Their competitors on the curve are MUCH better! I will say that our server was very nice and the turnaround time was really good, but they need to improve on the food! I would have been willing to pay a few $$ more for better quality food. read more

Nice place & good food. The staff is also very attentive. If you like your meal spicy or grilled jalapenos go somewhere else. I tried to get my fajitas spicy and a side order of grilled jalapenos and the manager said they cannot do it anymore because the other customers complain about the heat going onto their food. I was thinking to myself you only have 1 frying pan or you can't designate a section of the grill for spicy food. He then said he could take care of it for me and they cut up 2 raw jalapenos and placed them on top of my fajitas. Not what I expected. read more

Being a girl originally from Texas, I tend to be very critical of Mexican food and have yet to find a good Mexican food restaurant in the area that I like. I visited El Maguey when they first opened and was very disappointed with their customer service and food but i recently returned and it's seems that things have changed. My husband and I both ordered one of the large wet burritos and thought they were delicious! We also ordered margaritas - I ordered just a traditional lime one and he ordered a flavored one. My margarita was yummy but I could definitely taste the alcohol ( I don't drink spirits very often so I may be a little sensitive) and my husbands was delicious! Ok ok, so yeah I am not happy with the state of many restaurants in Front Royal which is, the food is not really good food. What I mean is, after visiting Old Cancun where they served fresh clean rice and beans, the selection at El Maguey seems to be more geared to an American taste. Folks just do not appreciate real Mexican Food where spices are the norm, not butter, sugar and salt. Wish we had a true South American experience in food, not processed Cisco crap.. read more

These guys have only been open for six days, and they're still putting the restaurant together, but the food is definitely 100% ready to go! My wife had a beef chimichanga and I had the sopa azteca and the shrimp and avocado salad... Everything was awesome. Especially the soup... you gotta try the soup. This is our second trip to this restaurant and both times have been quite good! The Texas fajitas are great and their shrimp is always cooked perfectly! The 32oz beers are awesome to accompany the meal. I would recommend this for anyone. The only reason I didn't give a 5 star review is the refried beans and rice are ok but I have definitely had better. We will return at least once a month to try out the rest of the menu read more

I ordered a vegetarian dish with tacos, and they gave me a plate of mostly refried beans. Very gross. Their guacamole was the best item.

Authentic Mexican food. The staff is great and the food is sensational. I took relatives from Texas there and they said they couldn't get Mexican food that good back home. This was horrible!!! Don't go here! Margaritas were just mix and no tequila. All food was unseasoned and flavorless. Very nice manager and waiter but definitely not worth your time or money. We stopped by this place on our way back from Luray caverns. The food was so fresh (especially the salsa, guacamole, and pico), but in the service was equally as impressive. Our waiter was impeccable. (and I apologize I don't remember his name) - but he was amazing. He was so on top of it! Everything came out hot and it was so delicious. Dropped in on a slow weeknight and ordered a basic order of Enchiladas Supreme, munched on complimentary chips and salsa until they arrived. The enchiladas arrived on a hot plate, but even with the first bite it was easy to tell they had been put into a microwave or oven to bring to the table, the plate was hotter than the food. At best, the enchiladas were lukewarm, toward the middle of the plate, they were just cold in the middle. (It suggests that it's hard to know when they were actually made, but that's a different story.) It's too bad, this place is conveniently located and I was excited to have a Mexican place nearby to be one of our "regular" eat out places. First time and everything was fabulous. Service was absolutely amazing. All completely homemade. Freshness was outstanding.

I can only give it a 3 star for now until we go back and see the difference. The place is new but I believe just the building itself. Some of the same faces from the other local Mexican restaurants were there. First, the impression coming in, nice layout absolutely love the all booth thing I saw..so it wouldn't be good for parties larger than 4 (although there may have been some tables somewhere I didn't see.) The waiter seemed quite and removed. He literally said "drink" and "ready" the rest of the time he pointed. I believe a manager came in halfway to help with refills not sure who he was but he did speak and asked about the food, which was nice. Now to the food, my husband got the fajitas with everything (I forget the name) but it was mostly green peppers. It defiantly wasn't served like he gets at Jaliscos or Los Port. He was a little upset about that one. I got the chicken burrito with rice, beans and g.peppers and covered in the white cheese sauce. (again forgot the name of it) This thing was wonderful. The cheese sauce ins't the same as others it has a rather good kick to it! The salsa wasn't my favorite it had way to many huge chunks of tomato and very little flavor. All in all I will go back and try it again because they are new and a local brand. Always willing to go local. read more

Been here twice now.....maybe I just have bad luck. Ordered a lunch special (chicken chimichanga), and waited 30 minutes for it to come....... It was just myself and my lovely wife. Another table of two ordered, ate, and left before we got our lunch.Salsa and chips were great, and we asked for some extra salsa, and some more water but our waiter seemed to have forgotten, we asked another waiter, and he promptly brought it out. I'll give this place another shot and hopefully I have better luck. read more
