This is by far my family's favorite Mexican restaurant. We come here everytime we visit Cave City. The food is just amazing. I ordered the Joel special which was amazing. I haven't tasted any dish like this before. It had a nice spice to it and pineapples! I love pineapples in dishes. My daughter got the Carne Asada wish she enjoyed but thought it could have been seasoned a bit more. My husband ordered the Burritos Mexicana which he enjoyed but wish it came with rice and beans because they have very delicious rice and beans. We highly recommend the chorizo queso - a great dip with their yummy chips. It was a lovely night so we were able to sit outside on the patio. Our waitress was very attentive as our drinks were always filled. Other servers also came by to make sure we were doing well! I really appreciated the great service. We had a fantastic dinner at El Mazatlan last night! The restaurant has a warm, welcoming vibe with colorful décor that immediately puts you in a good mood. Our server was friendly and attentive, keeping our drinks refilled and checking on us at the perfect times. Everything we ordered was delicious -- the chips and salsa were fresh and addictive, the enchiladas had just the right amount of spice and cheese, and the fajitas were sizzling hot with perfectly seasoned meat and veggies. The margaritas were strong and flavorful too. Overall, the food quality and portions were excellent, and we left feeling very satisfied. My only tiny complaint is that I wish there was a bit more guacamole with our order -- it was so good that we could have easily eaten double the amount! Definitely recommend El Mazatlan if you're in the Cave City area. We'll be back soon! read more

I'm on the fence between 3* and 4* here. If it were in a region of the country were the food is generally edible, I'd give 3*, but they do better by comparison, and the vegetables are fresh... Anyhow, it's white people taco night food. Steak fajitas were fine--steak was underseasoned and a bit chewy, but peppers, guac, and pico were relatively fresh. Tortillas were soft, rice and beans were lukewarm and nothing special. Food came out extremely fast, and I appreciated the big portions after a long day of hiking. Deep fried ice cream wasn't my favorite but maybe it's just not my thing. read more

Had some good Mexican food here. As is typical of Mexican restaurants they have a large menu. So hard to decide. I ended up ordering a spinach quesadilla and corn/chicken nachos. I know weird combo but I really liked both things. Hubs got carnitas and they were tasty as well. Can't speak to the margaritas because unbelievably we didn't have one! After a day exploring Kentucky Down Under, we hit up El Mazatlan for a late lunch. It was a beautiful day outside, so we chose to eat on the patio. There was a covered portion, but we stayed in the sun to stay warm in the cool spring air. The server sat us immediately and brought us complimentary fresh chips and salsa. We were starving, so we gobbled them up while flipping through the extensive menu. The servers brought us extra chips and salsa while we waited for our food and drinks. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and two steak tacos off the à la carte lunch menu (until 3pm daily). There was a $0.99 upcharge each for grilled vs shredded chicken and carne asada vs ground beef, and it was totally worth it. My daughter ordered two grilled chicken quesadillas as well. And our friends ordered beef nachos and a fajita platter. All of it was delicious, with large portions. I had a couple of house margaritas, which were tasty and a steal at just $5.50 each. My only complaints were that the queso dip was rather small and not worth the $5, and (like most places) they charge way too much for a soda ($3.25). The service was excellent. Our server Juan was friendly and very attentive, and several others checked in on us throughout our meal to ensure we were taken care. I'll definitely be back the next time I visit Cave City, Hidden River Cave, or Kentucky Down Under. read more

This is a cute little restaurant with the typical decorations you would find in a Mexican Restaurant. The chips and salsa can quickly. The chips were thick and perfect. Great salsa. I order the Chori Chicken and it was wonderful. I like how the server double checked to make sure I was okay with everything on it. It was a good portion size and very flavorful. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because we had to ask for our cheese dip several times before we got it. read more

The service and food were great. My mango frozen margarita was but sweet but good. My husband had great Mexican mule also good. My husband had Brito Portillo - very good. I had chicken fajitas- also good. So was left over warmed up. Our server, Gabriel, was very good. Not great English but it worked fine. He was excellent. Thank you for great meal. I wasn't sure what to expect from a Mexican restaurant in Cave City, KY. It was surprisingly delicious. The queso was good, especially the choriqueso (queso with chorizo in it). The fresh guacamole was really good, with big chunks of avocado. That's just the way I like it! Our kids ate the plain cheese dip, one had a taco and the other had a cheese quesadilla. They liked their food too. The star of our meal was the Maza Molcajete. The marinated meat was really good and tender. The sides were fine and went well with the meat. It comes with 3 tortillas but you can get more for $1.50/3 of them if you need any. My husband and I shared it and there was more than enough for two of us with the queso and guacamole we ate before our food came. The service was fine, our server was nice. The ambiance was great as well. Well lit to see when talking to your table mates and decorated tastefully. If we come back to the area to do the crawling cave tour, I'd come back. read more

I was surprised at how darn good this place was! Service was super fast, food was great! We sat down at 7pm order steak and also enchiladas, and we're done eating by 7:32pm. The steak was a bit under done, we asked politely and within 5 minutes it was brought back cooked to our liking and tasted amazing! Overall, the food was good and the prices were fair. We especially liked the guac and their version of Mexican street corn. Everything was fresh and had good flavor without being overpowered with cumin or spices. The best food we had while visiting this area, but their attention and prompt service put them over the top! Came here to grab a dinner unfortunately we were given lunch portions the Pollo Loco. My husband said tasted like it was made on a dirty griddle unfortunately and the portion again was small because I think they served us lunch portions the chips and salsa the chips needed to be warmed before we brought toast and salted, but they weren't. The salsa did not taste like anything really it almost taste like tomato sauce. I was very dish tasted by that the waiter did not really come off inviting he didn't help us with the menu. He just kind of sat there and stared at us my fajitas. The meat was tough. There was hardly any meat on it by guacamole that came with it was brown, but it's very disappointed. Actually still sitting in restaurant.. the food was delicious. I had the Al Padtor quesadillas and my son had steak burritos. The portions were great. Love that mine came with a salad and rice. I am over beans. Our server was very friendly and efficient. Prices were very reasonable. Sound level was great .. boisterous happy people, but not so loud you cannot hear others at your table. Stopped in here after a day or caving and hiking at Mammoth Cave. The service was nice and quick and the food was great. Had the margaritas which were perfect. We stopped here on the way to our VRBO near the national park. The service was great, the staff friendly, and the manager checked on us twice during the meal. This is "shopping mall Mexican" food. If you've visited the southwest or SoCal and you want a similar authentic product, this isn't it. That said, the portions are big, the food was tasty enough, and the restaurant is clean. I had a taco and enchilada combo. The beef was a little bland, but otherwise it was good. I was hoping for carne asada or carnitas, but neither are on the menu. read more

Very popular local Mexican joint in Cave City next to our Hampton Inn. Hotel lady recommended it and told me it's the only place that serves alcohol inside a restaurant. Nuff said after a 2 hour Mammoth Cave Domes and Dripstones tour w my recently diagnosed ASD son being cranky and disrespectful. Ordered a top shelf margarita and the server got my drift immediately. Love the menu has a kids section and these prices are so reasonable compared to Bay Area CA prices. We got FREE chips and salsa too. Can't remember the last time we got free chips and salsa TBH. Ordered a kids grilled steak plate and a combination steak and chicken fajita plate. Both were delicious, as was the margarita. I used to live in San Diego and would go down to Mexico and eat. This place is legit! Our waiter barely spoke English. Perfect! Their margarita was very good! I ordered the fajitas and the wife ordered chicken nachos and both were on point! Their regular salsa was ok. I asked for hotter salsa abcs what they brought out was outstanding with a bit of heat. When you're doing a road trip and want something other than fast food but also need an outdoor space to accommodate your doggy - this would be a good place to go. I didn't order any alcohol, because from the sound of it, it was definitely a pre-mix sort of situation. We got the following: El Amigo Special A chimichanga, cheese quesadilla and crisp tortilla shell filled with ground beef, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and cheese I decided to get this because I wanted something plain and it was good, but I wasn't mind blown and to be fair, I didn't go crazy and ordered something that would have been a better dish to rate. Fajitas - The lunch price was freaking amazing. I forget what I wanted to call out here but I remember their version looked different than other places I had fajitas. We visited this restaurant as tourists visiting Mammoth Cave National Park. It is probably one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants I have ever had! The service was beyond exceptional, we did not have to ask for anything, the server was on point! The food was so savory and delicious! The ambiance was perfect!
