I'm a huge fan of Mexican food. Therefore I've tried many different Mexican restaurants in the area, as well as in other cities and states. That being said, El Mazatlan remains my number one choice, hands down. Their staff are always well-dressed, professional and friendly. their food is always fresh and hot. And their prices have always been consistent and fair for the 10+ years I've been a customer. The restaurant itself has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and is always kept in good order with clean tables. There's an extensive menu that has something to offer everyone (even the pickiest of eaters). Once you're seated, you'll never wait longer than a couple of minutes to get your drinks, chips and salsa. The staff will usually take your order within five minutes of when you're seated and the wait for your order is usually no longer than 10 minutes (unless they're busy or you have a large party). If you're passing through on I-65, go where the locals go! El Mazatlan is sure to have something to satisfy your appetite for Mexican cuisine! read more

We stopped in at El Mazatlan for lunch over the weekend. The restaurant has plenty of seating and was not crowded at all. The menu is large with some good lunch options. Service was fast, and they brought chips and salsa quickly. I had the veggie fajitas, which had a ton of vegetables beyond the normal heavy carrots, peppers, and onions you get at most Mexican places. The rest of the family liked the burritos they ordered, and the beans and rice were good as well. The food was so delicious. I had 2 bean burritos which were so good. They had the best mix of cheese and tomato sauce. Their chips and salsa were very good. The service was fast and they were nice. Beware of this location! We were asked for money by a bum soliciting while trying to enjoy our dinner. This person was allowed to go table to table asking other customers as well. It was apparent the manager on duty was not concerned about this activity. Not sure if they allow it but by the manager's reaction when reported he did not seem like he cared. The customers deciding to spend their hard earned money deserves better! If you don't mind being asked for money the food is good. I do not plan on returning. read more

Solid Mexican food. The service is always quick and polite. The interior is very clean. We ordered a rather large takeout order around noon and everything was ready to go within 20 minutes. Their chips and salsa are very good. You can also order chips made with flour tortillas that are slightly crispy and still a bit soft. They go really with their cheese dip. I recommend the Tacos De Carne Asada as a main dish. The steak is very well cooked and tender. You can also request corn tortillas if you prefer those. The milanesa was super good. Big portion and tender. Some of the best milanesa we've had in a long time. The salsa was bland for us so ordered the tasty pico de gallo. Now that was good in flavor and a nice size bowl. Choice of tortillas was a nice touch. read more

Today wasn't a good visit. it started great then it went downhill, When the server took our order, I explained to him she has difficulty talking. after he took our order, he was just chatting with other employees, we tried to get his attention for a refill, but to no avail. later he came back to ask out the chimichanga if she wanted the vegetables in it, he upset my wife and she became overwhelmed. i explained to him she just wanted the chimichanga with just crab and shrimp only. After he left, my wife just wanted to leave at that point. So I flagged the server down and asked to get the order to go. I went to help my wife out to the car and out comes everyone like I'm going to dine and dash. A minute later the server comes out with the order and bill. he stays outside the whole-time making feel like a criminal. i go back in to pay and to let the one in charge know what's wrong with the service. He didn't seem too apologetic. once we get home to eat, my wife's chimi was made wrong like the size of a super burrito. my order was ok. looked like they threw it together. Great food. I'd say typical fare done well. Kids menu reasonable and with the chips and salsa my kids were all full. Chipotle steak fajitas, chicken fajitas and shrimp fajitas were all great. We ate outside, but the inside was packed. Outside tables were fairly distanced. Could have been more so for my taste. But it was great food and great service. Was traveling from Nashville to Louisville and stopped into El Mazatlan by chance for a quick lunch. I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the dining area and restrooms. Not to disparage other Mexican restaurants in the Midwest but you typically don't run into places as well kept as this place. The staff was very prompt, professional and often stopped by to check on my meal. Food came out very quickly and was very tasty. I had the Fajita Burrito which I thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered a chimichanga and I was presented with a tortilla with barely any steak on top of a pool of oil. It was not edible. My friend ordered the carne asada and it was way over cooked, not burnt but had no flavor, no seasoning. It took me 25 minutes to write this cause I couldn't stop complaining to my friend. This is an excellent authentic Mexican restaurant! Their salsa and cheese dip are some of the best I've had. The Victor Special is my favorite. You get a burrito, chimichanga, and an enchilada with cheese sauce and a side of rice. I'm a big guy, and this fills me up. I also get them to bring me a bowl of ranchero sauce that I poor on top of it. My kids love the Chef's Special. This includes fajita style chicken on a bed of rice with cheese sauce poured over it. We love this place. We've been coming here for years. Even before they moved to their current location. During quarantine we drove down from Sonora to pick up to go orders.
