I was traveling through the area and noticed a lot of these and found out it was a local chain. I didn't go too crazy with my order and just had a quesadilla. The meat was good, cheese gooey and tortilla crunchy. But honestly it isn't that hard to make a decent quesadilla! I think what made the difference for me was their queso dip which I got with chorizo and peppers mixed in. The cheese had a depth of flavor that went beyond just standard American or cheddar and was possibly the result of the added chorizo. I'll be back! read more

I called to ask about this price and he said something that i couldn't understand and then said, did you understand me? I said no, and he hung up on me!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not my problem you have to repeat yourself. If you are going to answer the phone, then you are going to have to repeat yourself all the time!!! My right as a customer is for you to repeat yourself 100 time if I can't understand you!!!!!!!!! Will never order from there. One of many El Meson restraints in the chain, but unfortunately the food is not always fresh and the service is nearly always poor. No matter how nice you try to be or how slow it is, at best you get "cold" service. At worst, you run out of chips, salsa, refills, cheese is thick and lukewarm when it comes out, guacamole is brown, lettuce is sad looking, waiting for check, and you feel like waiters/ waitresses are annoyed you are there. When their cheese dip is fresh, it's great which is why I used to go there because Augustin's cheese dip wasn't very good. Food isn't great enough to make up for the service. Skip this place and go to an El Meson closer to Indy or Cholula's. read more

Went there for the first time the other day. Ordered a combination plate and 2 tacos because it was Taco Tuesday. EVERYTHING WAS YUMMY, and well presented. Good value too! Stretched me out for 3 meals. The ONLY ding I would give would be the tamale in the combination plate was very good but it was only about 2 inches long (no exaggeration). Decor was festive in colors. I have gone here with family and friends for years now. Love it! Foods always fast and fresh. Staff always makes sure we have everything we need. You can use the outside seating, you usually just have to ask. They keep it nice and clean inside. They take a lot of time moving tables and chairs, using disinfectant spray and bleach on tables and cleaning the floors. If they make mistakes, they are quick to fix them. read more

Ok we decided to give thwm another chance since many places still shut down for dining. Mistake one. Theyve been closed for how many weeks for covid and STILL havent cleabed interior up any? Rusty vents overhead. Liquid splatters on walls next to your table that should long ago been wiped down. Filthy floors. After seeing how badly the walls had splatters of drink, we asked to just sit outside. At least it was cleaner. The food however was not good. Soggy and Bland. Very sloppily served. They never did bring out the guacole i ordered. Probably for the best. Nor offered tea refills. Just a dismal experience all around. Ill go without until a decent place opens up. read more

Multiple times we have been to this restaurant every since we have moved to Shelbyville. This will be our last. Almost every time we have come in, we didn't feel very welcomed and felt like we were just an annoyance to the waitresses. Trying to be nice and polite but they were still short and rude with us multiple times. We have friends that have noticed the customer service going downhill too. The food is okay. Not the cleanest restaurant. My family is just very disappointed with the customer service and almost feel uncomfortable being there. I will go out of my way 20 minutes from home to Mi Abuelito and El Abuelo in Franklin and Whiteland before I go eat in Shelbyville now. read more

Very good food as always. I would tell you what I had and how good it was, but I don't know how to spell it. My friends south of the border did a wonderful job though. I thought I was in the clear of my girlfriend wearing her Sombrero out to eat, because she didn't know we were coming here to eat when we left the house. Next thing I know she's pulling one one of those Nacho Libre Mexican wrestling mask out of her purse and putting it on. I thought she would have made a mess trying to eat with it on, but not one spot of enchilada sauce dropped on to the mask. I guess she keeps one of those mask in her purse for emergencies. I have eaten at this location many times and never had any issues. Staff was always friendly etc.. however tonight we went as a family of 4 and ate outside. No issues when I ordered my chimichangas I simply said "2 ala carte chicken chimichanges, menu states options are beef or spicy chicken." I specifically stated chicken as I only get the chicken. When I receive my food I notice chicken was grilled not shredded however I assumed they made an adjustment to the type of chicken they put in chimichangas so I ate it without complaint. Bill comes and waitress charged me $6.98×2 because they brought grilled not shredded , I politely asked the waitress why I was being charged that when I didn't ask for grilled. I was told that it didn't matter what I ordered because I should've sent my meal back when I noticed it wasn't shredded(mind you we have eaten there lots and lots and never have they attempted to bring grilled chicken for the chimichangas only shredded. Manager spoke Spanish to his waitress something and then he said no big deal I'll fix it. I of course said thanks. He then decided to take off $4 and said there next time if you don't want grilled say so. I was shocked.. He even admitted his waitress was new and didn't know the menu but he still wasn't going to make it right. I told him I will never be back. If you eat there you may as well go to the kitchen and make what you want or they will decide for you and charge you for it. I will never return there. You would think restaurants would be eager to get any business they can right now to make up for the loss. read more

I have been to this restraunt many times. It used to be a good place, but the service had been going down hill recently. Even with that I went back again and greatly regretted it. We didn't notice at first, but the place had numerous nasty looking bugs. I am not sure what they are, but it was quite disgusting. We will never set foot in there again, unfortunately. read more

This place has cockroaches. As we were eating our meal a cockroach crawled down the wall right beside us. The Manager was aware of the problem and his excuse was that the building is old. Needless to say we got our meal for free although he was very reluctant. I will not be eating there again. read more

I went there a few days ago and had the WORST service ever. Service is usually decent. I hadn't been there in almost a year because I had been going to Cholulas instead. When we got there, it took forever for them to take our drink order. I asked for extra chips because I ordered the white cheese dip. They never came. I forgot to order salsa and extra pico. After about 15 minutes someone, not my waiter came by and I asked him. I like sour cream on my tacos and in my beans. I waited and I watched the time. 25 minutes before I could get my waiters attention and asked him for the sour cream and pico. By now, everything was cold. Mind you, never once did he check to refill our drinks. After I ate my tacos, I was full. So I took my rice and beans home. I still tipped well even though I shouldn't have. Mexican is my family's favorite food. We will no longer go to El Meson when there are two BETTER Mexican restaurants in this town. read more
