The food and service is excellent! The restaurant is extremely clean as well! We are traveling through on our way home, and decided this looked good let's stop! And we are glad that we did! Everything tasted fresh and hearty! The salsa bar was by far my favorite thing about this place! It's different, clean, and lets you pick what you'd like! If we ever come through Highway 74 again that way, we will gladly stop in everything is reasonably priced. The service is outstanding and it's a clean little place. read more

Really enjoyed this food. Lots of flavor! I talked to a family sitting next to me and they said they had tried every single Mexican restaurant in town and hands down this one was the winner. I ordered the beef biria tacos and a margarita. Tender beef with a consommé on the side. Also this is the first time I have ever received a bowl of pureed beans on the side of the chips prior to the meal. There was a serve yourself salsa bar to go with the chips. Great service with hot delicious food that's served up fast! All of the servers are very kind and they keep the restaurant very clean and welcoming! The menu is easy to read with all of your favorite Mexican dishes including a variety of flavored margaritas and desserts. One of my favorite things when seated, is that they provide the table with free chips & bean dip! And on top of that, they offer the most delicious & fresh self-serve salsa bar that allows you to choose the right combination for your taste, offering several flavors of salsa from mild to hot! They are closed on Monday's and open Tuesday's-Sunday's. I enjoy the Taco Tuesday specials with the Chicken hard shell taco being my favorite, my husband likes the Beef! First time to Maya's for a 1:00 lunch with the girls. My chimichanga with beef and topped with cheese sauce was very good, and the rest of my plate was filled with lettuce, rice, refried beans, and sour cream, served piping hot (a must with Mexican food) Tortilla chips were warm and plentiful and you can select your salsa from the salsa bar. Wow! I didn't have it in me to visit any of the local fast food spots on this exit on my way to Cincinnati. I am so glad I stumbled upon this hidden gem. Server was very friendly, informative, and shared all the house specials with us. The salsa bar is something unique and there are flavors for everyone. The chimichanga and fajitas were incredible and very flavorful! We will definitely stop back by when traveling through. Only thing I recommend is that they add some windows to open up the restaurant. So glad I found this place, with the help of positive reviews from Yelpers. I was working in Shelbyville for the day and looking for a new place to try. The employees here were all very friendly and cheerful. The restaurant was very clean and attractive. My server came to my table immediately after I was seated. He brought chips and bean dip, and explained that I could select salsa from the salsa bar, and he described each salsa from mild to very hot. The salsa bar was so nice! It was refrigerated and the salsas were fresh and cold. I tried a few of them and both had excellent flavor. I ordered the veggie burrito, it was huge. Stuffed with sautéed vegetables and covered with a thick layer of cheese. The vegetables included savory mushrooms, fresh broccoli, green peppers, onions and more. The vegetables were perfectly sautéed, the broccoli was bright green and flavorful. Prices are very reasonable and servings are generous. Love this place and plan to return the next time I find myself in Shelbyville. read more

The one thing we noticed that really set them apart from ANY restaurant is the cleanliness. Was able to see in the kitchen, spotless. Dining area, spotless. Restroom, spotless. Hubby and I used to live in Shelbyville and wanted to have a gathering of friends. Why don't we try that new Mexican restaurant Maya's? So glad we did! Service, drinks, food - fantastic - especially the service. I let them know ahead of time that there'd be 15-20, and people just straggled in one or two at a time. Staff pleasantly accommodated our needs, patiently waiting to take orders among the celebration of friends, and adding seats as needed. Best mexican restaurant in Indiana! Great authentic mexican food, as well as drinks. Service was awesome! the owners are great people and it's also a family ran business. The ambiance was great with real mexican music as well as trending songs. The place was popping around 6 pm on a Thursday night so that was a good sign as well. after a lazy Saturday afternoon and a change of plans, I realized I didn't have dinner plans in place. So I ordered here for me and my kiddos on a whim and I don't regret it! Service was quick. Less than a half hour between me ordering on the phone from home, picking it up, and getting it back home. We got a kids quesadilla, nachos, and veggie fajitas to go. When we got there to pick it up, it was super busy inside! Not a lot of standing room while we waited, but I liked the homey feel of it. Greeted by multiple people making sure we were taken care of. Great atmosphere! There's a tv with soccer on as well and a salsa bar. My veggie fajitas were spot on and my kids loved their nachos and quesadilla. We will definitely be back again! Already making plans for lunch soon. My only wish is that they had black beans as an option! No photos, because I ate it all too quick read more

This is the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. The owners and staff are super friendly, and you can tell by the way they interact they appreciate and care about their customers and what they serve. The food was awesome my husband got the tacos carne asada with rice and beans I got the huevos rancheros also with rice and beans and tortillas ... absolutely delicious! And the service I could go on and on about it, it is outstanding these guys all lend a hand to make sure you've got what you need filling your drinks and things before you ask, awesome! I've never seen anything like it especially these days. Good food AND great service is lacking everywhere else we go across America! But most importantly is the price it is very affordable and this alone will keep me coming back. Because good food and service alone is not enough but the price tag is!!! New entry for the Mexican cuisine category in Shelbyville, IN. The owner's special touch in serving Ben dip with the table chips and the complimentary salsa bar was a unique twist! The salsa bar had 5 levels of salsa and you can help yourself. For a Mexican restaurant the ambiance was "staid" rather than the usual festive motifs of most places. I understand it was a former family diner type place and Maya's has yet to put their stamp on it. however, I don't think they need to make this place their own...I think they're going to need a bigger space! We came at the regular dinner time and they quickly became packed with customers. The staff was friendly and courteous, checking on everyone frequently but not annoying. And the food? In a word, DELICIOUS. Fresh ingredients, well prepared, plentiful portions and delivered quickly. Will definitely recommend and will go again. We hope Maya's is here to stay! read more

Earlier this week I tried one of the newer menu items -- fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, plus a sample of jalapeño cornbread and Asian slaw. Incredible comfort food. And as someone who normally isn't much of a slaw person, I was surprised by how much I loved it. They also tried to tempt me with the roast beef special, which honestly looked great, but at 10:30 in the morning I just couldn't fully commit to roast beef yet. Maybe next time. The new name is a nice tribute to the owner's mother, Arleen, but thankfully it still feels like the Milktooth so many of us have come to enjoy over the years. There was just no greeting of "Hi, welcome in" or even a "What can I get for you?" It was just a stare and silence. Now the staff were not unkind...they certainly seemed friendly but that lack of greeting didn't feel great. Additionally, they were very quiet or mumbled when calling out orders and so it seemed like many people listening never heard their order including me. I also had to ask again for the pie after having paid. I bought a bandana as well and didn't see the price tag. When I asked how much it was the staff member said it was either 12 or 15 dollars. She rang it up as 15 when later I saw the price tag and it clearly said $12. I showed the staff member and she said it was $15 and it was a handwriting issue for the price tag. I rarely write reviews less than five stars but I do think if there could be a bit more initiative from the staff and orders called out more clearly and louder for drinks so they don't spoil that would really help.

The eggs are cooked perfectly, the hash browns stick to your ribs and the biscuit with delicious apple butter is filling. You can camp out back for $15 (primitive) $30 (electric) and pan for gold or collect rocks in the creek. It's not upscale or trendy. They might look at you funny if you ask for a latte. But these are the nicest people on earth and serve up a hearty breakfast on a cold day.

We picked from their specials which were a bean and ham stew with cornbread, bbq pork sandwich with home fries & onions, along with cherry cobbler. Picked our drinks from the cooler and sat out in the sunny porch table and enjoyed the 60+ degree weather after a 40 degree morning while Robin prepared our food. Friendly conversation with other customers and warm sun (and cold drinks) made it easy on the wait. (there are dining tables inside and under a covered porch too). Yes, the food is served on foam plates with plasticware, but the taste is home cooking with care. Crispy home fries with caramelized onions (can't resist with ketchup) and soft moist cornbread with whipped butter (not in package) that were perfect companion to the bean and ham stew. Though I prefer cherries that are more tart in cobbler/pie, the homemade crust made up for it. Snagged a brownie to take home since we couldn't resist. Altogether it was $23 and credit cards are accepted (whew!) Left wallet at home and we were scraping together cash and coins before we saw the credit card sticker on the door and added desserts to our order. A 15 minute country drive from Nashville which certainly would have been at least that long a wait finding a spot on a Sunday afternoon in Nashville.

Maya's Mexican Grill was a solid spot for a casual meal. The salsa bar was a nice touch, offering a variety of options to customize your meal. While the standard chip salsa was a bit bland for my taste, the other salsas made up for it, especially the Tomatillo salsa. I ordered Maya's Bowl, which was huge and definitely filling. The steak, however, could have used more seasoning. Luckily, adding the Tomatillo salsa took the dish to the next level and made it truly enjoyable. The menu has some interesting options, and if we come back, we'd definitely try something a little more adventurous. read more

First time I've tried Pozole soup and it was superb! Loved the warm, mildly spicy bean dip, such a nice change from the usual red sauce. I only wish I lived closer so I could enjoy their food more often!!! If I'm ever close to Shelbyville again I will definitely return. I also appreciated the tasteful decor, instead of the typical carnival colors found in many Mexican restaurants. And last but not least, I highly recommend the Jalepeno Margarita. YUM!!! read more
