Why 5 stars? Let me tell you, coming from LA, this is the closest to a LA Carneceria, except, that in LA, you as a patron are appreciated by the people who work there. EMMarket was rough! Boy, they know, when you are not from around here, The 1st time , they were RUDE as they answer any questions, the cashier was like not friendly at all. So, the only reason, I come is for the Carneceria and the food they prepare here. The champurrado is banging, so I try to get here , like early. That is ALL I can say. I'm in tamale heaven! December is the month for tamales and even though I can make my own, it takes so much time. My husband was lead to this market for their tamales and they are large!!!! I order 2 tortillas from this restaurant and when I got home they were soggy and stickying to the paper it came wrapped in. I asked for the salsa on the side but the salsa came in both of my tortillas. when I made it clear to put it on the side. Would not recommend this place unless your desperate to get some Mexican food last minute. I was under the impression that my food was going to be made once I paid for it and gave the back the ticket that said I paid for them. Told by the girl who was taken my order tonight. My wife had been wanting to go here for quite sometime. We love eating at places like this, and we weren't disappointed. Well, sort of. I'll get to that. First off, as others have said, it's an eatery located in a grocery store. Don't let that scare you away. And we were able to get a good parking spot. But, we did have trouble ordering because the girl who served us didn't speak English. Fortunately, there was a nice gentleman in line with us who helped us with our order. The only reason I bring that up is because another reviewer said that they all speak English here. Not necessarily true. Now to the food. I have been looking for amazing chile verde in Utah county, and I finally found it. I ordered the chile verde in a combo with rice, beans and tortillas. Wow!! It was so good. Some of the best I've ever had. My wife ordered the chile relleno in a combo. I couldn't eat it because the sauce tasted fishy. It definitely wasn't what I was expecting. She enjoyed it (but ended up eating more of my food). The relleno was the only negative of the meal. We will definitely be coming back here and making it a regular stop. Good food, reasonably priced. There are several places around with a good selection of groceries, produce and meat. They also have small eateries in them. I've tried most of them. This is the best of all of them for my money. You go through a bit like you would in a cafeteria. The biggest issue is trying to get the food ordered.My Spanish is nearly non-existent and their English is not much better. I can point and say the number. That's usually enough. After you order, you grab a pop or juice from the iced buckets, go to the cash register and pay. Then you can pick up the food. It's really good. It tastes like the real deal. If I could have a beer with it, I'd be there for dinner. As it is, I stop by pretty regularly for lunch. If you're looking for good Mexican food, you're not going to find it at the faux places. Come here. read more

This place is pretty good as far as Mexican stuff goes, which I guess is what it is named after. We went in looking for Alfajores (Peruvian cookies). I had called earlier and was surprised that the guy told me (in English) that they have them. I even clearified, "Do you bake them their fresh?" He said yes so we drove right over. When we got there we couldn't find them. We asked the guy behind the counter and he pointed to these chocolate covered cookie things. We went ahead and bought them because we'd come all that way, but they were very different from the alfajores we were used to having. The rest of the place seems okay. We found a carton full of Lucuma ice cream that had melted and then they refroze it. Maybe these guys just can't do Peruvian stuff right. read more

There are only a couple reason why you would see me in this store. 1: My mom loves this place, I don't know why. She just does and I usually take her 2: it's the only place that carries such varieties of authentic Mexican candy. For starters, parking, oh my gosh! It's so scary to go inside. parking and finding a good parking spot is so hard. Finding a way to leave without being hit or hitting another car is harder. Yeah Utah drivers are also at fault. But their parking could improve. Bakery is pretty good, I had a few things from there , but their service is not the very best. I hate that you have to order it, pay it, and then go back and pick up your items. Also I am not too comfortable when they leave bread carts in the middle aisle. It could easily be contaminated. One time I saw one kid licking a piece of bread and putting it back. For their produce they don't have a big selection of items since it's a small store but the very little fruits and vegetables they have are usually moldy or rotten. The meat section is actually not that bad. So no complaints here. Their candy as I mentioned before its the bomb! I love their selection. I just wished it was a bit more organized. My mom bought some food from their mini restaurant area. She was super excited. I make it a habit to check food before eating it and I notice my meat was blue. Unfortunately my mom ignored it and got food poisoning lol Their check stand lines are long but that's usually how it is everywhere you go. I do not like how they sometimes have like rotten fruit, vegetable or other stuff by the check stands. You would think they would put their best selections there, so people could buy it before leaving, but it just seems they put it there to get rid of it because it's not longer selling. Last but not least. I just wish the store was cleaner and more organized. Everything is out of place, dusty, rotten and just a big mess. I avoid going to this store at all cost. HORRIBLE PLACE. Just a PSA for everyone, do NOT come here. Go literally anywhere else for Mexican food or even rancho markets nearby but this place is just awful. All the workers are rude, and will give you dirty looks. I've been here probably 5 times and every single time it is awful. Today I stopped by to pick up a specialty meat my father wanted, so I asked the butcher if he could please show me a piece of meat that was obscured by the red paper. He looked at me, rolled his eyes, and said in a condescending voice, "Do you not have eyes?! It's literally right there." I was taken aback and walked away. Next, I walked over to the bakery to also pick up a cake from here. The workers just stared at me and no one bothered to help me. There were flies crawling inside the bakery case and I got disgusted and walked away. This place is rude, dirty, and awful by all means. They are rude to people who are only English speaking and people who speak Spanish. I will never come back again and I implore whoever is reading this to skip this place. We came here for breakfast and the food was delicious it's kind of a weird set up so be ready for that. It's a grocery store with a restaurant and a bakery. The food tasted really authentic which is what makes it good. You order your food and then you sit yourself down they don't have waiter or waitress. El Mexicano Market is great for cheap produce, Hispanic foods and products. Best part of it all is the restaurant inside it. It is by far my favorite Mexican food in the area. Other than Rancho Market, it is the most authentic Mexican food. They have street tacos for $1.25 each and are incredible. I haven't found any other Mexican restaurant with "street tacos" on their menu to be this good. They have many things that most Mexican restaurants don't have like Birria, Menudo, Pozole, Champurrado, Mole. My wife and I have tried many different pozoles from Mexican markets in the area and this is by far the best, but it is only available on Sunday's. They have piñatas there. And meat and seafood. The only think that could be a bit better is the food ordering system. You have to go to the end of the food area, order food there, they write you a receipt , you then take it to the cash register in front and pay for it, and then wait for your order. It is a bit intimidating for people who don't speak Spanish at times but there is always someone who speaks English there. read more

I usually only come here to eat because they have an excellent little food counter. I don't speak Spanish so sometimes it's a little hard to order but most of the girls understand. They also call out the order in Spanish so pay attention if you don't speak the language lol. The food is delicious and authentic. Try to avoid noon time when all the guys come in for lunch. Recently I was shopping for tamale ingredients and the manager of the store personally took me around to help me find everything. From the outside, this looks like your standard Mexican grocery store. I went in there just out of curiosity to browse and to look at the different tortilla presses they have. During my browsing of the store, I noticed they had a restaurant with very reasonable prices. "Why not give it a try?" I thought. I'm glad I did because this was some of the best, most flavorful Mexican food I have had in a long time. Prices and taste are so much better than La Costa Vida or Cafe Rio(good but overpriced tex-mex). But this is real authenticate Mexican food, that means flavor and little to no English. But if I was able to communicate enough to order and pay, you should be able to also. You order at the restaurant, but then pay at the normal grocery cashier(they take cash or card). I had the beef burrito(this thing was huge with sauced dumped on it, and the meat was quality steak), which came with chips and some delicious Guacamole. My wife had the Quesadilla, which was also delicious and huge. We both couldn't finish our food. Good cultural experience, I will definitely be going back there.
