Great location and parking. Cashier was super nice and helpful. He gave me a free fountain drink because it was my first time. And then we also got free chips with our meal! Nicely salted and I enjoyed the creamy cilantro dipping sauce. My friend ordered a strawberry juice and then the employee brought another one out for their BOGO deal so I got to have it! Refreshing but decadent. I got the Al pastor taco and the cactus taco. The Al pastor was pretty good (not the best I've had in Utah but very good for Herriman). The cactus taco was just okay. A friend recommended it and she saw my picture and said she thinks it's different at the SLC location. My dining partner said her sope had nice flavor and texture and was really good. read more

This is typically one of my favorite Mexican restaurants... however this visit was bad. Guacamole was salty and consisted of chopped avocados... no flavor . It is not the guacamole one expects to be served with chips. Cheese enchiladas were also flavorless and they brought the enchiladas sauce in a cup on the side? Also had the steak Gordita . It was dry and just not good . Their prices have more than doubled and their food is no longer consistent. Not sure I will be back. read more

Samantha deserves 15/10 on her own, but the food and everything is also 15/10. We came in, asked cashier Samantha what she recommended since we were new here. She gave us samplers of their Al pastor because that's what they're known for and gave us detailed recommendations. And honestly, Samantha was correct on all accounts. This food was so good. So fresh, so delicious, they are not holding back on anything. But when I dream of Mexican food, this is the kind of food I dream of. I have no notes, it was all so good. Got Al pastor tacos and nachos and they were both sooooo good, I wish I had been hungrier to keep eating. Tacos are kinda small, but I think fair for the price. Nachos are definitely a size you can share. We were just so happy they hadn't been stingy with meat or toppings, I mean the plate of nachos had half an avocado on top. We loved that the beans and rice weren't drowning in cheese. This was well worth the money and well worth the visit. And seriously. The best staff and service. Fresh pineapple on top make these just hit different. Their taco combo is great, with rice and beans. Make sure to get their chips and salsa with guacamole. My first time at Chungas and I was already greeted with a recommendation- which I truly appreciated because my partner said they were known for their Al Pastor (he's been here before). I'm a carne asada girlie and the gentleman behind the counter recommended the carne asada quesadilla - outstanding recommendation! We got a free drink if we left a review - so this is as honest as it gets :) My partner got the Al Pastor burrito and he rated it a 4/5 because he felt the inside wasn't mixed well - so his bites were uneven lol. Came inside to try the food fresh instead of drive thru. Did not disappoint! I definitely prefer this location over the salt lake ones, they have good flavor and it feels authentic. I moved to Salt Lake Valley in 2020 and have been trying to find a good taco place ever since. Everywhere I tried was about the same--three or four stars, tops. This place blows them all out of the water! My search is over! My grilled steak burrito was packed full of flavor and had more meat than most places give you. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. I would describe it as upscale fast casual. You order at the counter but they bring it out to your table and it's on real plates. They also came by several times to check on us which is rare for this type of dining. The decor was slightly more upscale too and everything was immaculately clean. Don't skip the chips! We almost didn't get any, but they were AMAZING. A basic chip but so fresh and light. The sauces were so good too. Overall, Chunga's is a good place for tacos, but it doesn't beat the competition. First time I came here, I got the spicy chicken quesadilla. While it was PACKED with chicken, vegetables, sauce, sour cream, and cheese, its flavor, in particular the spice level, was just a tad underwhelming. I got it with a side of beans, and they were just beans. While hot and fresh, they were nothing remarkable. A friend of mine said similar things about the torta he ordered. The second time I came here, I got spicy chicken tacos in hopes that the higher concentration of chicken would impart some much needed spice. Indeed, the spicy chicken tacos delivered on the spice level! The tacos were solid and enjoyable. However, despite the mild heat, I do think the chicken could use a little more seasoning and flavor. Los Tapatios and Red Iguana does a better job there. With the tacos, I had a side of rice. Just like the beans, they were nothing remarkable. I had FAR better Spanish rice at Casa Taco in Albuquerque. Again, Chunga's is quite good, and I think they deserve 4 stars. However, on Google, it is clear that a bunch of bot accounts are inflating their rating. For that, they deserve an extra star taken off the rating. read more

Our favorite local restaurant! The service and cleanliness is always top notch. I have never like steak tacos until now!

We've been meaning to stop by here since it opened and so glad we finally did. They have lots of vegetarian options and I have celiac so it was really exciting to find out the only things I couldn't eat were flour tortillas or bread. They even offered to special make things with corn tortillas for me. Matthew walked us through the whole menu and the most popular items when we got there. All the food was delicious and tasted very fresh. We got our meal to go and they still offered us a complimentary basket of chips and salsa while we waited 5 minutes.
