The food was really good and we really enjoyed our meal! Unfortunately, the customer service could use some improvement. We waited quite a while for our waiter to come back around so we could ask for to-go boxes, and eventually had to wave down another waiter for help. Once our waiter brought the boxes, I asked for the check and she said "okay," but then walked away, attended to other tables, and eventually stood behind the bar while we were still waiting. After waiting awkwardly for a bit, we finally got up and went to ask for the check ourselves, and she helped us at the bar. I think the biggest issue was just communication. Instead of simply saying "okay," it would've been helpful if she had said something like, "You can pay up front/by the bar when you're ready." That would have avoided the confusion and awkward waiting. Overall, the food was really good, but the service and communication could definitely be improved. read more

Wow. I didn't know Los Banos had this little gem of El Michoacano. Delicious food. Excellent service. And a great ambiance. The quality of products and services is high and justified a little higher price point than similar restaurants of the area. The home made corn tortillas elavated a carne asada taco I didnt capture. The mariscada was a huge portion and easily fed two of us. Others in our group also shared a molcajete and that was packed with flavors. The internal decor was great. The selection of drinks was inspiring. I stuck to a michelada, but I was surprise to see several variations on it. Overall, definitely looking forward to my next stop here. read more

This was one of my top five Mexican Restaurants in Los Banos, but now it seems they have seriously compromised their food health and safety per the latest Merced County Food Inspection here: https://apps.co.merced.ca.us/PublicApplets/pages/FoodInspect/FoodInspectDetail.aspx?id=FA0007228 I have lived in this Central Valley area most of my life and never remember such an unsatisfactory food health inspection (43 points = instant closure of the restaurant!!!). Food health and safety are the 'primary' considerations of the best objective restaurant reviews, as Yelp knows and places a link on every restaurant Yelp website. So sadly I must downgrade this location from a **** (4 Star) to a * (1 Star) based on this latest inspection on 6-26-24 even though the food and service the last time I was there was at least **** (4 Stars). The business owner needs to claim this Yelp listing, respond immediately to his loyal customers like me, and manage this situation so that they have 0 (Zero) points on the reinspection or they will be forced out of business by their customers very soon. read more

Service was amazing right when we walked in. Ordered and the food was delicious. Cooked very well, made with patience, not rushed. Ceviche was cooked perfect, just as I love it. This plate was enough for 2 people if u love to eat, maybe 3 if you don't eat much. We ate pretty much everything on the plate. So delicious! The michelada was amazing, and had fresh jumbo shrimp cooked with really good seasoned sauce! I rate this place definitely 11/10! Came here to celebrate my Grandma's birthday. We had a party of ten. The service was great! We didn't wait long to be seated or for our food. I ordered the chicken enchiladas. They came out nice and hot and they were so good. Everyone enjoyed their food, no complaints. We ordered the deep fried ice cream and flan. Both were delicious. I've been here a couple times and so far so good there are just a few things that keep me from going all out and raving about the place. Accessibility: This place is located directly off the main street. Therefore it is easy to get to. It is also nestled in a large shopping center therefore parking is plentiful. Food: Quality of food is good. Plenty of options to choose from, there is defintely something to appease everyone's pallate. The drinks are delicious and I am definitely a fan of their habanero mango marg. Aesthetics: I love the decor of the place. You are almost transported to a restaurant in Mexico. Bathrooms are clean. Love that they added outside seating. Customer Service: So here is where I feel I want to really give the benefit of the doubt and try a couple more visits before I can increase stars. The last time we visited was on a Saturday and it was about 6PM. We had family in town and were a family of 6. When I called they stated they did not take reservations but said that the wait was only maybe 10 mins. We arrived at the restaurant about 5 minutes later and they were busy but there definitely were tables available. There is a large partition that separates one part of the dining area from the front door. Only I think the problem with that is that whomever is at the counter will not see people walking in and waiting to be acknowledged upon entering. I don't feel right about that as I feel it is unhospitable for a restaurant. So to adhere to social distancing etiquette, the rest of our party stood outside while my husband waited to have his name taken. My husband stood there for 20 minutes and was never acknowledged despite servers walking past him and being the only person in line. Finally I walked in and walked to the window where the cash register was to ask if there was a list we could add our names to or seat ourselves. I was kind of dismissed and told just to wait over by the entrance and someone would be with us. I was kind of dismissed in the way she looked at me as if I was bothering her. Money is money and people in this are defintely a lot of blue collared workers whom if they have the extra money to splurge on dinner out is a big deal. I don't want to walk into a place made to feel as if it didn't matter whether or not I was there. We were finally seated 10 minutes later. Server was great. She was fast and made sure to top off all our drinks and checked in with us a few times to ensure we had everything we needed. I hope next time I can update this review and that this last experience was just because they were busy and had an off night. read more

Okay I've been here several times and you just cannot go wrong in terms of quality of food and options here. Food: Plates are always prepared very well, with attention to detail to include all great sides and decent quantities. I've ordered the bacon-wrapped shrimp and OMG these are amazing!! The plate comes with rice, beans, fries, guac, tortillas, and some lettuce salad. Tacos and burritos are also decent, but you should venture out to the other dishes as this place serves authentic food. Service: I've dined in both pre and post pandemic, and have always had great service. The waitresses all speak Spanish and super friendly. I've never had a negative experience described by others, but if there is, it's probably because they've been short handed for some time since pandemic happened. To-Go Orders: I was truly impressed with how they package their food, especially for larger orders. They assembled everything just as if you were dining inside. They include plenty of chips, salsa, and all your utensils. I say this because NOT everyone does this. We drove 45 minutes to LB for lunch at this restaurant. I've been here 3 times and have never been disappointed. If its your first time you MUST know that there's a sign in sheet right as you walk in. Make sure to sign in & keep an eye on how many people are ahead of you because others will try to be slick & sign above your name. Anyway the food is DELICIOUS! Totally worth the wait. Waitresses are super friendly. My son had the asada tacos w/rice & beans he said it was all really good. My daughter had the chile verde burrito & said the sauce was a little bitter. My wife and I have been here twice and both times wondered why we paid so much for Mexican food...in Los Banos...in the State of California. My family can cook just as well as the next but sometimes you want the family to have a night out. This is not the place to do it. You will leave with regret. First off, if you only come here for their cocktails you might be okay. They're expensive but they're refreshing. If you come here for the food, be prepared to be disappointed by the portions and the price. We had a table of three adults and one child and our bill came out to $101. At Las Casuelas or Mi Casa you can get mocajete for $16-$20. This place....$33! I couldn't justify that. I ended up with a wet burrito with beans, rice and minimal flavor. The burrito was half the size of normal establishments. In conclusion we won't be returning here, even if we can afford it. Drive to Turlock, 35 minutes away.
