El Mojito is your classic local Mexican spot situated in a small shopping plaza on Donelson Pike. I was after a decent Mexican lunch over the weekend and ended up at El Mojito thanks to Yelp! The menu is classic, featuring all the standard favorites you come to expect like arroz con pollo, nachos, burritos, enchiladas, etc... but they also have a few authentic options including pupusas, tortas, caldo, birria, chilaquiles and more. The menu is expansive, but well organized and easy to read...and has pictures, which we all love! Like most folks, I have my go-to's and today I went with the classic number 1, which is (1) taco, (2) enchiladas and a side of rice. I started with a bean dip and sweet tea. The bean dip was solid, equal parts queso and beans, a tad more than expected honestly. The number one was good and hot upon delivery, so hot I had to give it a few before diving in! The enchiladas were soft, filled with ground beef and topped with a tasty red sauce. The rice was copious and fully. The taco was okay, same beef as the enchiladas, but without a sauce I definitely enjoyed the beef a little less. Surprisingly, the sweet tea was delicious! In total, my meal was $24 prior to tip. A tad higher than expected for lunch, but decently worth it. Service was friendly, expedient and helpful. My server was working alone and seemed to give all her tables the same level of friendly service. The restaurant is small but has big energy. While the shopping plaza is a bit worn, this spot is well kept and clean. Overall, El Mojito is a solid spot! Every time we're in Nashville, we somehow end up back at El Mojito... and honestly, that says everything. The food is consistently good, the service is always friendly, and it comes out fast every time. But the real reason we keep coming back is the white queso with chorizo. It's that smooth, runny, can't-stop-eating-it kind of queso that's hard to find. Three visits in, and it's still just as good as the first time. We'll definitely be back again. read more

Wow: this place deserves more five star reviews! We weren't sure what we were walking into but this place did not disappoint. Service was top notch- staff were very friendly and food was quick and fresh. For picky little eaters, they even had chicken nuggets on the menu. On our road trip we needed some dinner and had a hankering for some Mexican take-out. This place was close to our hotel. The order was ready within 15 mins - very fast. They threw in some chips and salsa but unfortunately the chips tasted stale. Though the salsa was good. The cheese enchilada dinner was solid and pretty tasty. Though the portion was smallish it was inline with the reasonable price. The refried beans had some heat. They also has a small side salad with some avocado on it which was a nice touch. The chicken burrito was good though the cheese sauce was just OK- the green sauce would have been enough. Overall a decent choice. read more

worst experience i've ever had at a restaurant. I do not recommend coming here at all. We were scammed. Server refused to give us itemized receipts and charged us up the butt for our meals. We went during their listed happy hour & our server claimed that it was not happy hour. I ordered the vegetarian burrito which according to the menu was $11.99 and came with rice and beans. The server tried to tell me the rice and beans were in my burrito (it was not). I also ordered a mojito ($10). My ticket totaled $32. I tried to clarify prices when checking out but the sever was short with me and kept repeating the same prices that did not add up to $32. My friends had similar issues with their orders and tickets. There were a couple of empty tables. We left and then a couple walked in right after us and didn't come out. So disappointed by this place. Was craving chips & salsa & decided to try out this Mexican spot. The place is tiny but the menu looked promising. It wasn't though. To start, the chips were stale & unsalted. The salsa had no spice whatsoever & was basically glorified tomato sauce. My husband ordered the carnitas plate. It was 90% rice & beans with three bite-sized pieces of pork. I ordered a burrito that they couldn't even be bothered to wrap up like a burrito & instead they just folded the tortilla over some lazily thrown together ingredients & drowned it in cold cheese sauce. I am usually skeptical of Mexican restaurants in Nashville, but El Mojito is the real deal. Most flavorful Mexican food you can find in town in my opinion. If you're really hungry, or sharing with a friend, the molcajete is amazing! The burrito loco is also one of my favs. And the handmade tortillas are a must try on the tacos. NO. Absolutely not. Came in to try this place on Wednesday afternoon 7/27 after seeing good reviews. Myself- a server, and my friend- a bartender, barely made it through the door when we noticed presumably the only single staff member in this extremely tiny 'restaurant' absolutely screaming on her cellphone and pacing around. She noticed us as soon as we walked in, but ignored us and continued her loud af argument. After a minute or so she motioned some kind of "wtf are you doing" gesture while aggressively mouthing "SIT WHEREVER." Yes, that was meant to be in caps, I never knew anyone could mouth words in caps but she did that. Anyway, we both immediately got right back in the car and could not stop talking about how any server would interact with any customers that way, especially ones that would've been her table. Literally no words were ever even spoken out loud from her or us. Like girl hang up your phone!! Honestly, I'm still super embarrassed for her. No wonder there was only one table of 2 in there. I ordered the 3 tacos supreme and the ground beef was plain....absolutely NO seasoning. That goes as well for the refried beans and rice on my plate. My husband ordered the beef quesadilla and it was greasy with very little cheese. My husband also ordered a "coke" and it came in a glass bottle and we were charged $5. We asked why it was so much and they said they bring them in from Mexico. He would not have ordered it for that price. This was my 2nd time here. The food is very good for the most part; some items such as cheese enchiladas just don't translate if you're looking for Tex-Mex (which I like.) But the rice and beans are very good; tacos and burritos are good. It will be interesting to see what the Donelson natives think. You always see people reviewing other Mexican restaurants bemoaning the fact that "it's not authentic." Well, most of the customers at El Mojito in my experience have been Hispanic - and they seem to like the food. The lunch special today was Menudo. Now, when have you seen Menudo on the menu of a Donelson restaurant? Pretty authentic, I say. They have 14 different shrimp (mariscos) dishes, 17 different soups (caldos), a wide range of tacos and burritos - even pupusas (definitely worth trying if you've never had them.) What's really interesting about this place is that they have some very high-range Mexican dishes such as Molcajete - a very hearty stew with chicken, shrimp, grilled cheese, grilled cactus, sauce, grilled onion, jalapeno, served with rice, beans and salad. It's a massive array of different foods and flavors, and almost impossible to find in Nashville. At $21.99 you definitely want to split it with someone - and you'll still take leftovers home. Another category of high-end dishes are the Parrillada. According to TripSavvy.com, "Particularly popular in Argentina and Colombia, the mixed grill called Parrillada Mixta can be any combination of meats and poultry." At El Mojito, their "Parrillada Acapulco" is made with Steak, ribs, grilled chicken, breaded shrimp, Acapulco shrimps, botaneros shrimps and grilled shrimps. It's a whopping $59.99 - pretty much a record price for a dish in Donelson - but I'm guessing it could feed a party of 5 or 6 handily. Yes, this place is pretty new, but it's definitely worth checking out and trying some of the more exotic menu items. read more

Amazing food and service!! Came in from out of town for a soccer tournament. Prior to arrival called and talked to the owner about a taco bar for the team (50 People). Katherine was amazing to work with and the amount of food was shocking! The team LOVED everything - it was over the top delicious and authentic.
