The food at this restaurant is one of the best in ukiah in my option however their service and staff are very unprofessional and rude. I ordered food for pick up and received a completely different order, one of the meals they gave me instead of the one I asked for was a children quesadilla with fries that had 2 Jalapeño stems in them. I called and was told she was aware she gave the wrong meal. Once I returned to the restaurant the lady who received my food was also there to get the correct order, the waitress then tried to give me the food the lady brought back instead of remaking it. Once I told her she had to make it she was very rude and not very willing to do so. I was also charged 5.99 for guacamole that I did not receive!! First time here, the place is not fancy, it has an old school kind of Denny's - ish vibe. Everything was clean, we were seated promptly, waitress was friendly and attentive. She gave us menus, took our drink orders, and left us chips and 2 types of salsas, one red, one green, (the green was my favorite) and a bowl of bean dip. I ordered the shrimp soup. It had great flavor, the shrimp were HUGE, like 4 - 5 inches long each. There were 12 of them in that bowl, which was the size of a bowl you make a salad for your family in. It included tomatoes, peppers, carrots, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, and jalepenos. I'd definitely get this again. Dining partner had Grilled chicken burrito with, beans, rice, pico de gallo, crema, onions, cilantro, guacamole, and cheese. Said it was delish, and could barely eat half of it! We spent all weekend camping up in Mendocino and came off the weekend dirty and hungry! This spot was perfection! Tasty margaritas and amazing food! My kiddo had the chicken fajitas and rice and had zero complaints! I had the signature burrito and has to be one of the best burritos of my life! And I lived in the Mission District of SF! It was tasty and perfectly balanced between all the elements! Staff was super cool and friendly and refilled our chips and water regularly! If you're driving back from Mendocino and the mountains, stop here to refuel your soul. read more

This restaurant did not disappoint! I left happy and stuffed. If only I had taken pictures of the food, but I was too hungry. I liked that they offer unlimited chips and salsa/dip - red, green, and bean dip. Items we ordered were the chicken tortilla soup, crispy fish taco, and molcajete. I didn't have the molcajete since it has red meat, but I tasted a dab of the sauce and tried the cactus from the dish. The cactus was delicious! The soup and taco were yummy! Great food, nice service - but very loud. My wife and I were looking for Mexican food while on vacation and found this place. (I'd suggest to the owners that they cut the tree branches that are blocking the signage as we drove past it the first time.) The food tasted great and was plentiful; we were served quickly, and the waitress was very friendly. Prices were reasonable. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was the noise level. There was a compressor going the entire time (probably from a refrigerator). They had music on, which was relatively loud. And to compound that, the room is "acoustically live" with no carpeting or drapes to absorb the din. (There was also a screaming baby the entire time but that's obviously not the fault of the restaurant.) It made it close to impossible to talk with my wife. My suggestion is to turn down the music and add some sound deadeners, but that's not a reason to stay away. read more

We're on a road trip. To make something clear, we don't go out for Mexican food. At home. We just call it "food". We're usually pretty skeptical about Mexican restaurants, but El Molcajete was very good! Coming from this guy of a Mexican family, the food was well prepared! We call it sazón. The guys in the kitchen have it. Service was good. We beat the dinner rush. The tortillas (corn) tasted homemade. My wife has a sharp pallette and she really enjoyed it so did I! We were visiting from LA and our hotel was close to this place. IT DIDN'T Disappoint at all. As soon as you walk in you are seated and within seconds you have chips and salsa with 3 salsas that are delicious! I know good chips and salsa when I see them and these were warm and fresh I had to get a refill on chips. We got our drinks very fast and we didn't wait no more than 10 min for our food that was so flavorful and great portions. Let's just say I scarfed it all down. I got the flautas with shredded chicken and they were beyond delicious. If you are looking for a great Authentic Mexican food this place is it. Great service, clean, food comes out fast. Flautas are really yummy. Tacos are ok but expensive for what you get. The mariscos (seafood) campechana was super nasty and salty. The server we got this time was really nice which was surprising (had a horrible service experience over 6 months ago but decided to try again). Our server was alone when we got there and by the time we were done another girl had clocked in. Sat at the table for about 5 minutes with plates stacked on the edge of the table to show we were finished, but ended up having to go up to the front desk to ask for the check. I told the girl who had just arrived about not being able to eat the campechana and she went to find our server and ask her whether to comp it or not (with an attitude). Thankfully our original server accomodated and removed the 30 something bucks. The place was very dirty looking. The floor was sticky all over and our table was so sticky and wobbly we had to move as to not spill everything on ourselves. After this experience, we will not be back again. It's a hole in the wall little place. The parking lot was empty, but I assumed it was because of the time of day between lunch and dinner. We sat down and were served chips, salsa, and bean dip. We ordered a carne asada taco to start for the little one while we checked out their menu. We were a little shocked at the only meat on a tortilla. (red flag) But we ordered more food anyway. The only thing that wasn't bad was their signature dish, which the restaurant is named. The bill was shocking. The waitress was nice and friendly but did not understand that just because our son is five doesn't mean he likes plain food, he has a very seasoned taste and knows good food. The food here is so delicious. They have Modelo Especial on tap and it's cold. They brought (appeared to be homemade) chips, two types of salsa and some bean dip to us. They were all delicious. My husband had a side Chile Rellano and the sauce they put on it was so wonderful and even a little spicy. He also ordered the Steak Ranchero plate. He loved it. I had the chicken fajitas and loved it. The portion of chicken they gave me was very generous. The meat was wonderful and marinated. I love how it was cooked, it was browned nicely. It looked and tasted like the flour tortillas were homemade. The only negatives I can think of are the beans are too runny and the guacamole could be made fresh. Also the wait staff was very attentive until we were done eating and then after waiting for the bill awhile, I had to go ask for the bill twice. I was so happy we choose to eat here based on Yelp reviews. Finally we have a great place to catch lunch in Ukiah! We will be back. read more

Granted I haven't tried every place in NorCal, but this beats the last three I visited in Santa Rosa, Fort Bragg and Sebastopol. I had the lime margarita to start on the rocks with salt. They served it with a straw? A margarita glass barely holds a straw. So tossed across the table when it arrived. The waitress probably thought I was mentally disturbed. OMD is disposable plastic free month! For Pete's sake! Many owners and managers read my reviews, so stop with the disposable plastic already! Back to the review: They served three different salsas with corn chips. My husband really liked the smokey tomato one. The chips were gone before the order arrived My margarita needs more mix less ice and the tequila was just right. Glad I wasn't driving. He had the macho chicken burrito, which was huge and he couldn't finish. The mas macho would probably feed a family. OMD! I had the chicken chimichanga, which was good, but more cheese than I could handle. No queso next time. Yes, there will be a next time whenever we're back in the area. Stunning! This is currently one of my top eats for Ukiah, seriously. Ok, so the reviews are mostly correct - the food is outstanding, but the service can be (seriously) lacking at times. Drinks (note - beers) took 20 minutes to be ordered and come out... and our beers were gone by the time our food arrives (with no one asking if we'd like another). They were somehow out of margaritas and guacamole? However, what we did get was AMAZING food. I went touristy and got the "Tour de Mexico." What I got was a plate that would put the Chessecake Factory's portion-sizes to shame! Huge, delicious, absolutely satifying. The highlight was the al pastor soft taco. I'd come back again and again just for that taco! And their chips/salsa policy is - free if you're eating with them! Other shops around town charge for salsa or chip refills. Found this appt by accident while trying to find a different restaurant and it was a wonderful surprise! Really appreciate that they have outdoor seating available! So many restaurants are not even opening their outside areas, which is totally understandable in these times, but when you are traveling it makes it hard! NO STARS BEWARE Disgusting! Our plates were served on plates that were simply scraped of the PREVIOUS meal. The bottom of one plate literally looked as if it had been stacked during a table cleaning. The tacos were ice cold. The plate even felt as if it was removed from a Refrigerator! One burrito looked as if it hit the floor and was quickly put back together.... I couldn't begin to tell you what was all over the outside of the burrito. It looked as if it was Dirt remnants off the floor!! The quesadilla appeared to have what looked like mold? The cold flautas had used mangled guacamole on the plate. We asked for no sour cream, guacamole or anything.just PLAIN flautas. They came out looking like somebody tried to scrape all of the sour cream and guacamole off of them As the food was coming out I kept analyzing the plates. I touched every single plate and They were covered in crusted food on the top that was from the previous meal. And the bottoms still had food from when the plates were stacked off of the table.. We were so disgusted we couldn't even wait for the rest of the food to come out. There was no possible way we were going to send anything back to the kitchen. We got up, told the waitress that was completely unacceptable. She shook her head in disgust and apologized. When we asked to speak to the manager or owner to explain why we were leaving without paying, she said he was In the kitchen cooking tonight!!!!
