Carne asada burrito con todo!!!! YESSSS PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!!
    Angelique E.

After an 8.5 hour journey from Orange County we landed safe in Ukiah but exhausted and hungry. Searched for places near where we were crashing for the night before our next leg of the trek. SOOO GLAD I found this place. It is legit!! We ordered 2 carne asada burritos with everything to go!! So dang good!!! So authentic! The rice, The beans. The asada and everything else!! Yumm!! So good for my weary soul. The homemade flour tortillas reminded me of growing up in central California. I have been craving one ever since. This place did not disappoint! My one gripe is they only give you one side of salsa for your GINORMOUS BURRITO!! Which is probably enough for a normal Person BUT...This salsa roja is FIRE!!! Fantastic flavor with a solid kick!! Hunky hubster and I love heat so for us it was perfect and we were wanting MORE!! Hubs finished his whole burrito but I could only do 1/4 to 1/3 it was so packed full of goodness!! Everyone was helpful and friendly from the employees in the market to the servers/ cooks outside. Was great to watch them make the tortillas while you wait. 5/5 with no complaints only ravings and a deep abiding sadness that it is 8.5 hours (on a good day) away from home. We travel this way once a year to visit my Mother in Love in Brookings for her bday. I will be looking forward to next July when I can have my old school Mexican food longings fulfilled!! If you are bougie don't bother. But if you love the non fancy down to earth road side Mexican food with no flairs or fusion BS, it's definitely worth the time. $30 for 2 Carne Asada burritos LOADED WITH EVERYTHING!! Worth every penny and for me, more than enough to share! Again... if you like heat ask for extra salsa!!

Wowowow!! This is what you call a hole in the wall. Amazing tacos, fresh handmade tortillas, big portions, and full of flavor. You also get a good view of the mountains while eating outside. My boyfriend took me here 2 days in a row, once for lunch and the other for an early dinner. I think this has to be one of my favorite places to get tacos now. So the process of ordering, you place an order at checkout inside the market. Then head to the wooden building next door, and you let the worker know what meats and condiments you want for the tacos. It was such a treat to experience hand-made tortillas, soft and doughy but holds together well without any tearing like factory made tortillas. The meat was well seasoned and juicy. My order: Pollo w/ cilantro + salsa verde medio + jalapeño, no onions Bf's order: Carne Asada & Carnitas w/ cilantro + salsa verde medio + jalapeño/serrano + onions Next time I visit my bf, he'll have to take us here again. It's well worth a trip!

I got the Al Pastor and the Carnitas. So good!

This famous outdoor Taco stand is well worth a visit. The tortillas are handmade fresh on site, and are thick and delicious. The toppings are so moist and filling. I had Al Pastor and Carnitas - so good! Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Highly recommended!

Exceptional tacos and handmade, fresh tortillas. Ordering process is a bit screwy, but, figuring out how it all works makes every bite worth it. One of my favorite establishments in Northern California for tacos. On this most recent visit, I had carnitas and al pastor. I also had a tamale which I picked up inside and found it pretty boring. Stick with the tacos!

Not worth the very long wait. Ordered in the store (that was confusing), then took our receipt to wait in line next door where they make the food. There were only 4 people in front of us, but we waited nearly 40 minutes to get to the front, hand over our receipt, and then literally repeat our order because thr receipt didn't contain any details. Then we waited another 15 minutes for our food to be ready. The upside was that it was mostly prepared fresh. You can watch the staff pressing and cooking the tortillas in front of you. The meat is kept warm in hot pots and strangely, there was no chicken, though we weren't aware of that when we paid 40 minutes prior. I ordered a quesadilla and pastor tacos. Meh. The salsa was uninteresting and thr pastor was FLOODED in orange grease. It overflowed my plate walking back to a table and got all over my sweatshirt. The meat was so very salty and mushy. It was almost like ground minced pork flavored grease-sauce. Yuck. Hubby ordered a carne asada super burrito. Nothing spectacular, though it was gigantic, so a good bang for your buck! The tortillas were thr star. Warm, doughy, but with some crispy pockets and edges. Those were a win. The overall experience, however, was not.

Glad that I found this place on Yelp. Excellent Mexican food. Hot salsa and HUGE burritos. I had a carne asada taco which was loaded with meat. Very friendly staff. Definitely will return next time we are in town.

Incredible quesadilla, the tortillas are handmade, the meats are juicy, and the salsa is fresh and spicy

I come here once a year for work and always go here just for the super burrito. Picture says 1 word...BIG!!! Oh yah... it's loaded full of meat!!!

Carnitas torta was delicious and satisfying!

Craving authentic Mexican food while traveling along highway 101? Get your fix here! Stop at the market and grab your drinks. Menus are up front at the register where you'll pay your bill up front and then proceed next door where they'll prepare your food for you. I ordered a torta de carnitas for myself and one carne asada super burrito for my boys to share; a good decision as the portion sizes here are quite generous. This place is legit!!! The food is authentic and delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is humble and not unlike roadside restaurants you'd find south of the US border so if you're hoping for a classy dining experience, well, this is not the place for you. My only regret was my not ordering a bag of warm carnitas and tortillas for the road from the carniceria (butcher) while at the market.

These burritos must be over a pound. Wish I had a scale.

I started with one of their house margaritas--great flavor, a solid punch, and just enough tequila to spark a pleasant buzz. For my main dish, I went with the steak taquitos... or maybe they were flautas. I usually prefer corn tortillas for taquitos, but these were still quite good. The steak was well-seasoned, and the garnishes and salsa rounded out the plate nicely. My friend ordered the sizzling trio of fajitas and asked for the veggies extra charred. Honestly, I don't blame her. The aroma of blistered peppers and onions filled the air in the best way. Service was also good but can use a little less checking in. We enjoyed the food, but even more, we enjoyed the atmosphere and each other's company.

Sometimes it isn't. You can't rely on it and that is what matters. My wife and I tried to celebrate our anniversary there tonight, but our waiter screwed up my order in three different ways. I asked for whole beans instead of refried beans. He said he would take care of it. He didn't. I asked for sour cream and guacamole. I got neither. There was no explanation, just plates tossed on the table and then the server left before I could say anything. The waiter never came by to ask us how our food was. He never refilled our water glasses. They sat empty forever. After he took our order he never returned. It wasn't like El Molcajete was busy either. They were less than half full. Prices have gone up a lot in the last few years at restaurants. Customers deserve good, consistent food and good service. With El Molcajete it's like playing Russian Roulette. You never know what you're going to get. Tonight, it was lousy food and lousy service in the most uncomfortable chairs I have ever had to sit in at a restaurant. I'm not sure if I'll give them another chance.

But, hey, they have a salsa bar that doesn't look like it's cleaned out very often, so that's probably why the food was expensive. One salsa, the red salsa, was horrible. I think someone dropped some Fabuloso in it or something. The rest of the salsas were watery and terrible. They did give us chips (a little stale) to wait for the food. We waited about 20 minutes for the food to get to us, and there were only 2 people other than us in the restaurant. The torta was terrible. It had absolutely no flavor. And I'm hazarding a guess that the meat was previously prepared, then microwaved. The burrito was less better, with the red sauce tasting like someone had run out of red sauce, then added a bunch of water to make more red sauce, then drenched the burrito in it. No flavor. The coke and the jarrito were good. As an extra, my son got sick from the burrito later. So there's that. No, not coming back.
