good food with a smile. it is loud when a busy night. I am not crazy about their guacamole but their other foods are great!

My husband and I love this place! We first decided to try it because we was so tired of the same thing to eat all the time. We took our children (who aren't fans of Mexican food) and I was so relieved to see that they offer multiple kid plates. Ranging from tacos to chicken fingers, they have something for every picky eater! I ordered my two the corn dog plate and they loved it. The staff is extremely poilte and nice as well. Our son flirted with the waitress :) As for the Wensday night band, I must say I am impressed. I was there one Wensday again with the hubby and kids and the band that was there that night played the song from the Lion King, The Lion Sleeps Tonight. During just an instrumental part one of the guys made his instrument sound like a lion. My son had a blast! If your ever in Calhoun, this is a place to eat! It's reasonable too! For my husband, who can really eat, myself and two children's plates it averages for about 30 something dollars. read more

After moving to San Francisco and being spoiled with authentic Mexican food I am always amazed when I go home and eat out Mexican. El Nopal is such a refreshing twist on American Mexican food! Everything is so cheesy, and who doesn't love some cheese? Last time I went in, they did not serve Cerveza, which would have been so perfect to offset the spicy of their delicious pickled jalapeños! Oh well, I am sure they will hop on the booze bandwagon soon enough... otherwise a great place to go!!! read more

I'm very surprised at all of the reviews of this place. I don't think these people even know what carne asada tacos are. Very bland.

The service was terrible. The food was good but couldn't enjoy it because we asked multiple times for limes & salsa & our waitress never brought them to us. She didn't even check on us. Never got a refill. I'm not the picky type so we just decided to leave. read more

We really liked this restaurant! When we looked up reviews of this place and the others that were near by, we were a bit concerned because this place wasn't #1 in reviews or ratings, but every time we drove by the place was packed out. In fact it was 3rd from the top and a local hole in the wall was #1. Anyhow, we decided to try it out and boy were we please we did. The salsa was great right off the bat, and the atmosphere was perfect. We didn't have to wait at all to sit down even though the restaurant looked packed out. The service was great, and the prices were not over done either. Last but certainly not least, the food was just awesome! We will definitely be back! read more

I have never eaten food so bland. The salsa had no flavor or hint of spice. The cheese deep was not at all worth $4.50. I ordered the grilled chicken tacos. I was expecting them to be corn tortillas with grilled chicken with pico and tomatillo on the side. I received three flour tortillas filled with grilled chicken. That's it. Nothing on them. My husband ordered a similar dish but his came with corn tortillas, onions, cilantro, etc. I asked if I received the right thing and the waitress said that it came with pico and then asked if I wanted it. Uh, yes... As we were leaving, a lady at the table next to us ordered the grilled chicken tacos like me, but hers came on corn tortillas with cilantro, onions, pico, etc. Very disappointing. First visit here (Calhoun) and was so disappointed. Sat us in a section that they expected 24 loud and obnoxious teens for dinner. The noise level was horrid. One of the brothers sat in back of us and spit straw papers at this sister at the teen table. The mother screamed across at her daughter, like she was a fish monger in the lower East Side of NY. Am not a tourist so this restaurant is not suitable for residents of Calhoun. Try El Pueblito instead. Food: I ordered Mexican Shrimp Cocktail after asking the waiter about it and not once did he tell me it was shrimp floating in some kind of amniotic fluid or tequila. I didn't stay around the know the difference. The cashier told me to read the menu and to stay away because they were real Mexican. I've been to Mexico and ate real Mexican and this was NOT it. Poor poor untrained staff and nasty cashier. I paid for crap to take out (another dish) and cokes. No more El Nopal. They are disgusting. The one in Adairsville is better. read more

I have been eating here a long time...each visit now it's getting worse...used to be soo good...the chips were cold and stale had to ask for fresh...the Chimi's are now the size of egg rolls...asked for brown and crispy and after two tries they still brought out oily burritos...I even showed a pic of their own Chimi that was cooked brown and crispy but apparently it just can't be done...tacos are always the best here and my last two visits the meat wasn't even warm...the service always awesome...our waitress this trip acted like she didn't even want to be here...my son in law ordered the triple and asked for verde on two of them red on the other...he got verde on all three...and the roast pork they put in it hadn't been drained...was so oily and greasy made his food soggy...if I visit again I will just stick to the tacos and California Burrito...the two things they can usually do right...wish they would pick up their game...not much in Calhoun this WAS our go to place... read more

I really like this place! The food is fast and good. I've been here many times over the last few years and have never had a problem. I usually get the chicken chimichanga or the El Nopal special. My husband gets the Johnny's big burrito which is HUGE. We also enjoy the Nopal dip which is a queso blanco with ground beef and pico (can be spicy due to the fresh jalapeños, so sometimes we get them to put the pico on the side so we can add it in as we please). This is our go-to Mexican restaurant. read more

Atmosphere and service is alright. Margaritas are syrupy and watered down. Food is typical of Americanized Mexican restaurants. Standard bland stuff. It's OK if you want a cheap lunch with a better sit down atmosphere than taco bell, but I wouldn't blow the cash for date night. read more

Earlier in the month I had a what you might call an OK meal at El Nopal in Calhoun, Georgia. I love Mexican food and the rich culture, but this one place i wouldn't recommend. There are three reasons why i had a bad experience there, One was the plain food i was served. My Grilled chicken salad didn't even looked grilled. Two The service was horrible, The host approach in a nice agreeable fashion, but other than that the service was horrible. The waitress didn't seem to have a nice clean attitude with me and, messed up my order twice. What shocked me the most was not only were there waiters slacking off sitting in a unoccupied table having conversations but The Managers were too. Most restaurants i have been to the managers are the ones in the higher position, putting people back to work. Another thing was I saw was a couple came in and order a to go order. The manager said it take about 10 minutes. Unfortunately for the busy couple who had to get going, 10 minutes turned into and Hour and 12 minutes, Unbelievable. I base this review on this bad experience and another one i had earlier in the year. I wouldn't go back to El Nopal without taking some consideration and finding a better Mexican Restaurant. The food is decent. What impresses me the most is the cleanliness. I have twice noticed staff cleaning menus. I've always wondered if restaurants did that. Well this one does. The one in Adairsville was better than Calhoun back when Calhoun first opened but any reataurant is better in any other town than it is in Calhoun. Another impressive feature is that they stay opened until people stop coming in. I receive great service about 85% of the time. Also impressive for Calhoun restaurants. I will NEVER return to this restaraunt. I ordered a tortilla with ground beef no guac. . I got a tostada with guac. I called over the server and he seemed confused. I said not what I ordered and he said one moment. The manager came over and I said this is not what I ordered .He said this is not Taco Bell this is the same as a tortilla. I was totally offended and embarassed that a manager would treat a customer this way.I travel for my job and have ate in many Mexican restaraunts so I know the difference. I am from out of town and asked to go here since I passed it evryday of my visit. My family from Georgia were apalled. You can bet we or they will never return.They did bring me another meal but I was afraid to eat it as I was not sure what may have been in it after the managers attitude. read more

Was getting take out often, but stale food, wrong orders, etc, etc. have me burned on the Calhoun location. Even when dining in, everything just seems thrown together without much care for quality. read more

The service here sucks! Disrespectful, slow, and just dont care. We live in Calhoun and drive 10 miles down the road to the El Nopal in Adairsville to eat, because they have great service. I wouldnt darken the doors of this restaurant. read more
