The reason that this little unassuming place (I mean, it's in an old remodeled Dairy Queen building if that tells you anything) gets five stars is simple. It's cheap; it's authentic Mexican food; and it's DELICIOUS. I adore the chicken verde enchiladas, and the beans and rice that they serve with them is tasty, too. My kiddo likes their quesadillas, and my husband loves their carne asada tacos. My only complaints are that I'd like a salsa and condiment bar, because I love fresh salsa and cilantro. But that's a minor issue. I'll keep going back again and again. Edited to add that there IS a little condiment bar near the front! Blink and you'll miss it, though. Salsa is kept in a little fridge under the condiment bar. I'm in heaven! read more

I live in Bedford and I used to work over in Dallas off 35 and Walnut Hill. When I changed jobs I was sad because I knew I wouldn't drive 25 minutes away from my house for El Paisa's fantastic street tacos. It's just too far. The universe answered my prayers and opened an El Paisa one street away from me. When they were remodeling from the dairy queen it looked suspiciously Mexican...I stopped by and and asked if they were building a taco cabana. The workers just laughed and said maybe a taco cabana on crack! Lol This is great on the one hand, but not so great for my waistline...Because their food is addictive! I know, I know...my wish came true and now I'm complaining? Whatever. I get on my own nerves. After reading reviews, it seems that I'm really limiting myself by just eating the tacos all the time. I will (I WILL!)try more of a variety if I can make myself. Yes they do pander to the gringos by asking if you want lettuce tomato and cheese on your tacos. But please for the love of all that's holy, ask for onion cilantro and lime. Use their red sauce or verde. My favorite meats are the al pastor and the chicken is juicy, tender and amazing. True authentic Mexican food... Their beans are sooo good and don't forget breakfast tacos... Fresh and full of meat, eggs and cheese... Whatever you want. And please try the flan. Great people work here also. Very down to earth ...Always smiling and service is fantastic. The prices are very economical (tacos 1.25 a piece for corn tortilla and 1.50 for flour)and I can feed my family of four for under 20 bucks... Great little hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Authentic food and you get a lot for very little. My boyfriend, who's Mexican, loves just about everything here. We will stop sometimes and just pick up the rice and beans to bring home with something else we're cooking, that's where the drive-in comes in handy. Great breakfast too. Chorizo, yum! I really enjoy the fajita an DC pork tacos. They also have fresh cilantro, tomatos, and other garnishes to add to your meal. Nice mom and pop mexican place, I have several friends from out of town that beg to go here when they come to Texas to visit. I've never had a bad meal here after dozens of dining experiences, the sauces are great, portions are fine. I like they have items like pupusas that aren't available at chains or big name stops. The breakfast tacos are great also. I stop here whenever it's lunch and I'm in the vicinity. Food is good but staff needs some training on customer service. If a customer is standing at the counter, acknowledge them. If a customer says they received the wrong order, don't argue with them. I'm a regular because of the food, but on several occasions I have encountered customer service issues. read more

Horrible service! Pulled into the drive through tonight, the place was not busy, 4 cars in the parking lot and no one in the drive through. Ordered my meal and pulled up to the window to pay... I say for 10 minutes ( no exaggeration) and the two girls working never even acknowledged me. One girl was working the counter the other managed to check her cell phone on the counter to the left of the soda machine about 5 times, but didn't have time to even come say anything to me. I USED to frequent this place, I'm talking at least once a week, but no more. Taco Bell down the road has better customer service. They will be getting my business from now on. I had no expectations when a old pal of mine brought me here for breakfast. We got a chorizo torta and a chico pozole which, as it turns out is mucho grande. Im usually pretty cranky while hungover but the pozole took care of that. The torta wasnt bad either. I will certainly be back to try out their lunch items, and another bowl of pozole. read more

I've passed by this place numerous times and finally my craving for chips/salsa and tacos won out. I went through the drive thru and after reviewing the menu, I wanted to try something different. I had the sopes. I didn't know what they were but the picture on the menu made them look inviting. Turns out, they are little pieces of heaven! The blend of the corn "cake" and the meat was great. The sauces were super spicy. I also got an order of chips with salsa and queso. The queso wasn't anything out of the ordinary but it was yummy. The salsa tasted fresh and had the perfect amount of heat. The chips were a bit thicker than what I usually like but they were fresh and crispy. Definitely great food for the price! read more

I accidentally stumbled upon this gem! For those of you looking for something outside of tacos/ tamales this is the place! They have the traditional tacos ect. But they also incorporate Latin dishes as well. A definite must try. I realize the place doesnt look that appealing. Thats what took me so long to try it. But I'm so glad I did. These people are doing god's work. Honest to goodness affordable Mexican food that you can get in a drive through? Yes please! The staff is friendly, although if you aren't bilingual you might have a hard time customizing your order how you want it. The drive through ladies are very sweet but rarely speak/understand basic English well enough to do the DT. However if you go inside the staff is very eager and helpful. I brought a friend to this location and she was very impressed with it, as am I! The soft tacos are amazing, the queso is wonderful, it's down the street and there's never any fuss. My kind of place! Plus the food is quality. Not like Taco Bell or bueno.. Genuine cooked food. Give it a try next time you wanna go to a fast food Mexican joint. Me gusta! read more

Watch this place if you pay with cash. We were short changed $10 today. They claim they counted the register in 3 minutes and had given us the correct change. I work very close to this restaurants so I occasionally stop here for lunch. Their tacos and burritos are pretty good. I've also had their tortas which are a pretty big size. This is a pretty nice place to enjoy your lunch. I go here about once every couple weeks. The staff is always very friendly. I recommend you stop by and try their food. read more

However, several findings from this website have proved me... well... not entirely correct. El Paisa is yet another example. I've only been here once but I'm so excited about this place that I'm going to go ahead and write a review. I'm not sure what these folks are doing to their pork but keep it up guys! The pork tacos were just delicious. Tacos: you get a choice of bistec, barbacoa, chicken, roasted or grilled pork, fajita, chicharron, lengua, jamon and (breathe) milaneza. Tortillas are either corn or flour. I will not rave about the beans and rice that come on the side but that was good too. As has been mentioned, you can get a couple different salsas (served in squeeze bottles), and choice of fresh lime, cilantro and two types of pico de gallo. People, if you're hungry for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and have just a few extra minutes to spare, you'll get very tasty, authentic food at fast food prices! read more

Love the breakfast tacos! They recently added posole to their weekend menu...it's good, too! Sometimes ordering can be a challenge if you don't speak spanish. Check your order before you leave. Almost everything is made to order, so be prepared for a wait if the place is busy. It's worth the wait though....Very inexpensive, clean and people are really nice. Went here based on yelp reviews and was not impressed! I had ordered chicken flautas and fajita quesadillas. The chicken flautas was not crispy and didn't taste fresh was very soggy and bland. The fajita quesadillas meat was very dry and lacked flavor and the tortilla didn't really taste fresh more like store bought packaged mission tortillas! The hot sauce had no flavor wasn't spicy at all and seemed to be watered down. The only good thing about this place is the price but rather pay more for good quality food! This is by far my favorite place to grab a bite! My husband and I just moved to the area and were thrilled to find a great "non-chain" joint for dinner. The tacos are amazingly fresh and Jonathan was able to tex mex his up while I enjoyed having just cilantro and lime. Given the option I would eat here every day ( they have enough meat options, I could have a different protein every night) , as it is I go there enough for them to now call me sweety and ask about my day . If you go I recommend the carnitas tacos or torts, or ooooh do a varity of tacos to go yum. As to fries with the tacos I have never seen that... I have seen them butchering slabs of meat and offering this spicy pickled veggie stuff but I thought that was all pretty awesome. read more

My first major yelp disappointment! Just got into Dallas and we were looking for a quick bite to hold us over. It's a hole in the wall but that usually doesn't deter me as those are usually the best types...well I was wrong. We ordered nachos to share and asked for no meat, the girl taking the other seemed very confused by this so I just explained we'd like everything the nachos comes with just no meat. My brother ordered the taco plate and I ordered the sopas plate. When the "nachos" came out I was thoroughly confused as it was a basket of chips and a large side of fake melted cheese, salsa and beans and super small sides of guacamole and sour cream. At first we were just dipping the chips then realized these were supposedly our nachos and had to pour each container all over the chips to actually obtain nachos-what the heck? They were soggy and flavorless. My brother was served his tacos and our "waitress/counter person" looks at us both and says do you need anything else? Um yeah how about my order? Then proceeds to ask me what I ordered as they obviously forgot and hadn't yet made it. When they did arrive the sopas were weird, not really sure what sopas are supposed to be like but these looked like mini dessert breads with some Mexican meet and cheese on top of them-very bland, in fact I let my brother eat most of them. Very disappointing for our first meal in Dallas, hopefully we can redeem ourselves in the next couple of days. read more

First of all, yelp's website shows me in McKinney and I live in North Richland Hills and the website won't let me edit my profile to reflect that! Way to go, yelp, single star for you! Anyway, I stopped by the place about 8:40 pm tonight, 1 car in the parking lot, 1 car in the drive through, not the prime dinner hour. I ordered 2 tacos in the drive through, that's ALL. I waited over 20 minutes for these 2 tacos. The 1 car in front of me ordered 12 dinners plus drinks, extras, etc. I counted the white square containers as they came out the window. This is REDICULOUS. If someone orders such a large amount of food, they should be asked to park to the side so other customers can be served like McDonald's does. The street tacos, barbacoa, were delish but I will NEVER EVER go back. These people are clueless. One generally expects to be served quickly at the drive though. There are many, many taco places around besides this one. Get it, El Paisa????? Update: spent another 20 min. here and finally figured out how to change my location. This is my absolute favorite little mexican place. I call it one of the little hole in the wall places. I have had just almost everything on the menu and haven't found a thing that I don't like. I know how it works -place gets lots of positive attention, then haters gonna hate and give some overly negative reviews. That's fine and I get some of the criticism -they are trying to have authentic-ish tacos while also pandering a little to whitey with the lettuce, tomato, etc. on the tacos. But I always answer the "but how AUTHENTIC is it?" question with another question- "does it taste good?" Because honestly, that's what matters the most to me. Also, the salsa bar looked very fresh when I was there (and it was almost 3 in the afternoon.) I got the sopes al pastor and they were awesome! The meat was tender, tasty, and plentiful. At first I thought the sope was dry but then realized, no, it has a crunchy outside, fluffy inside and just isn't greasy like so many places make them. They do ask you if you want all the veggies so it isn't hard at all to say no and just go the cilantro and onion route. My BF had gorditas and they looked really good, he was very pleased with them. It made for a very affordable lunch and we were pleasantly surprised that this former Dairy Queen had three big ass TV's on the wall! They were show female professional pool, which was a little odd but whatever. It doesn't quite get the full 5 stars because the place is laid out a little weird- they had cones up so you couldn't walk on one side of the place and it was kind of awkward. Went in for lunch and got the chicken enchilada platter with a side steak taco. Not impressed. The rice tasted like frozen Chinese rice. Enchiladas had no flavor. The steak in the taco seemed to be flavored well, but there was not enough to tell. I might try it for breakfast, but I won't be back other than that. read more
