I had heard this was THE best Mexican restaurant in the area. It is really great. We came on Mothers Day and they handed out roses to all ladies. The food was excellent. The service was horrible. We asked for the beer ordered to be delivered three times, it was finally delivered way after the food was being devoured. Then we were charged for two beers instead of one. This restaurant should improve in serving flavorful authentic Mexican dishes. It's our second time dining here and I'm now convinced that their food is a not good restaurant quality. We ordered the same as last time, and again the carnitas were dry and bland. The enchilada sauce tasted like the Valentina bottled hot sauce and chicken were cooked in something pink. Although, our dining experience was a pleasant one, the servers were friendly and attentive. With that, I like the rice and bean/dip, (the free chips salsa not so much, it tasted like lemon and tomato) love the decor and running water fountain. I live in SoCal and am up visiting family for the weekend and was trying to decide between Italian (if I could find it) or Mexican faire and landed on Mexican. There were a couple names tossed around but I chose this spot and am SO glad I did! What a pleasant find so far from home! The restaurant seems to be a local favorite and I can definitely see why. Great decor and ambiance. Even though I was taking my order to go staff was stellar and accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious. The portions were great for the price you pay. My last review was several years ago. What happened Snohomish El Paraiso? The bartenders and servers are not the same quality as in the past!!!!!! Stopped in today for a drink. Rude , condescending, unfriendly. . Came in a little before 3 and told we couldn't get happy hour but then some other people came in before 3 at the next table and were told they could get happy hour specials. When we complained the waiter begrudgingly gave us the happy hour price on one beverage. There are plenty of places in Snohomish that appreciate our business then to waste our $$$ at El Paraiso!! It's been our go-to family dinner night for years. They are very accommodating for large groups, even last minute usually. They get busy but always manage to provide good service. My only wish is they would revamp some of the drink menu a bit. Food faves are the carne asada and shrimp chipotle. To drink it has to be the cazuela marg. Would give a Zero if I could. A party of 20 came tonight for my aunts birthday party. We tried making reservations ahead of time and they told us they do not. We showed up at 6pm promptly and waiting for at least 15 minutes. They took us to the table and then said "we just wanted to show you where you're sitting" and walked us all back to the front door. After being seated our server came with a terrible attitude, huffing and puffing, getting upset when we wanted to order drinks and was extremely uncomfortable. After waiting for 20 minutes we were asked to order and the server was again very pushy, rushing and very rude. After another 20 minutes we got our food. One of the orders was wrong and he argued with my aunt and said she ordered something different then she did and then charged her extra to add the correct thing to the order. Another Spanish family came in "we are mixed white and black" and they were smiling with them, having fun and prompt. They never once came back to ask if we needed anything, if anyone needed more drinks or anything. When asking for the checks, the server got mouthy with my aunt to give the money now because he is almost off. The manager came out after we asked and didn't do anything to make us feel like he even cared. This was the worst experience ever. They reined the birthday party. We felt unwelcome here will never come back. The racism and attitudes from every member on the team is unacceptable. read more

This place had potential, but it didn't live up to it. I'd like to believe this review helped them reform, but what I'm pointing out has been pointed out again and again with no correction. The food was decent, In their defense, I had a taco and enchilada, both ground beef, so chances are other traditional dishes could be far better. The taco meat lacked heat and flavor, it was tomato-based beef and I don't care for that. The salsa was packed with veggies, but it lacked heat and flavor as well, salt helped, but it was still short on heat. The bean dip was decent but became a winner once I shook some black pepper on it, a touch of cheese would have also been nice. The problem was service. Service was both slow and unfriendly. I sat at the bar, but my drink remained empty. I sat for 10 minutes clearly done with my meal before the check was brought and despite putting my credit card on the check at the time of presentation, my card wasn't run for 5 if not 10 minutes. My entire stay, I said please and thank you, but never got a smile or a sincere thank you from my server. There is nothing like spending money in a place where it appears they don't care you are there. This is an area, I most likely won't return to, and if I do, this place will not be on the menu. read more

1. Called for a reservation in the afternoon and was told "We do not make reservations made on the same day:" 2. Showed the BUY 1 DINNER ENTREE & 2 BEVERAGES GET 1 DINNER ENTREE FREE coupon on my cell phone to the server and was told it needs to be printed out and they will not honor it. The coupon was from their own El Paraiso website??? 3. Chips and refried beans came to the table and the beans had more water than beans in them with the consistency of milk so you had to drink them out of the bowl after you had a chip in your mouth or they would spill all over the table and create a huge mess. 4. My #15 combo dinner came (enchilada, tamale, chile relleno, rice and beans). The tamale was not fresh and so so so tough I could not get the piece of corn husk off even when I pulled with my fingers for a minute. The masa outer was so hard I had difficulty cutting it with a fork and meat inside was so tough it could not be cut. My guess is it had been made days or weeks before, frozen, and nuked to long in a microwave. 5. Chile relleno had been made in a frying pan not a fryer and the underside was so over cooked and hard that it reminded me of slightly burned egg and cheese omelette and was not fluffy at all. Terrible! 6. The rice was under cooked and crunchy to chew on, and the beans on my dinner plate were way too thinned out with water so they were extremely runny. 7. Then during the dinner we had a dozen or so hockey players milling around the tables trying to get you to buy $5 raffle tickets to win a hockey stick while I was eating this terrible food. Ever since we moved to Snohomish this has been our to go Mexican restaurant. We liked the ambiance and the food has been good (most times). However in the last year we have noticed a decline in the friendly customer service. We stopped in a few days ago for dinner. The host said we could sample one of the tortillas that were being made near the counter while we waited for seating. My son requested a tortilla and I requested one for my daughter. Both times the lady rolled her eyes, was rude making faces of being bothered and pointing her fingers with disgust towards the butter or salsa (like saying "what do you want!") butter or salsa on the tortilla, with a frown on her face. I was going to tip as I saw the tip jar there but it didn't merit. I don't know if the lady was overworked or the staff is not happy for many reasons. Maybe management needs to support their staff more? Our server was friendly but looked very busy. We definitely didn't feel it was a nice experience and definitely we will be exploring other Mexican restaurants somewhere else. It is so expensive going out for dinner now that it definitely matters what type of service you get. read more

I walk my little dog every morning by this restaurant, as the park is just across the street. One morning, as usual, I am walking with my dog on the sidewalk and of course my dog sniffs the bushes, as dogs do. To my surprise, a very angry middle aged man ran out from the restaurant, started yelling at me, to take my dog somewhere else? I was on a public street, just walking by and this employee of the restaurant(I believe, he was the manager)has the nerve trying to stop me using a public walkway. I believe, he had issues with my dog sniffing those bushes, but many people walk their dogs by on that street, across from Ferguson Park. I know, I would never visit that restaurant, although once we went there to eat, but wasn't impressed with their food. Since than, they installed a short white fencing separating those bushes from the street, but I am still very cautious every single morning walking by, not wanted to be attacked by their employee just walking by. read more

I met a girlfriend here for happy hour. Of the various locations, this location has the largest bar area. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Happy Hour is offered daily in the lounge from 3pm-6pm then again from 9pm-close. On Monday's, crunchy beef and chicken tacos are $1 from 4pm-close in the bar. Complimentary chips and salsa are offered to snack on while viewing the menu. Large Dos Equis were $5.95 (hh). We shared an order of Jalapeno Poppers (qty 6) for $5.95 (hh). The poppers were standard, nothing spectacular. I ordered the Pork Carnitas Tacos (qty 2) for $3.95 (hh). The pork was tender and flavorful. A tasty morsel. Staff was friendly and efficient. Overall, El Paraiso isn't my first choice when happy hour comes to mind. The happy hour food choices are a bit limited compared to other Mexican restaurants that I frequent. read more

Fish tacos on the HH menu were horrible, the margaritas were weak and not shaken and the bartender/waiter in the bar was aloof and too focused on the tv rather than being even slightly friendly. Food is great but the service is absolutely terrible. The waiters have terrible attitudes and are not attentive at all, barely showing up throughout the meal. Also, my wife and I sat in the main dining area and were given a happy hour menu. Long story short we ordered off of the happy hour menu, but we're instead charged full price of the drinks. Turns out the happy hour menu only applies to the bar. We had the happy hour menu in hand pointed to it while ordering and the server didn't even tell us that until the end saying that the menu "states" bar only on it. Whether that's true or not I don't know but you'd think the guy would have told us when ordering. Cozy family style restaurant for authentic Mexican food at a good price with great service. I was hungry after berry picking in Snohomish and craving some Mexican food. I found this place had a decent rating and decided to stop by. Parking is easy to find as it's in a strip mall area. Entering the restaurant, you definitely notice it has a cozy, classic family style restaurant with booths and older furniture. The decor was colorful and seemed to reference cultural elements. They bring you chips and salsa as appetizers and they were good about refilling them. The chips are nicely toasted and pair really nicely with the salsa and bean dips. We ordered the chicken fajitas and the combo #13. The chicken fajitas come in a cast iron plate with the chicken sizzling, as it's cooked fresh off the grill. It comes with a side of rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, and salad. Overall it was very moist, tender chicken and tasted fresh. The combo #13 came with an enchilada, tostada, and tamale. It was definitely a lot of food and filling overall. The tamale wasn't too dry and had a good amount of stuffing. The tostada and enchilada were also served with plenty of seasoning and sides. The chicken tasted well cooked too. Expect to spend about $15-20 per person. The staff are also very good with making sure you're taken care of and there are plenty of people working. I didn't have to wait long to get my food, even though it was busy on a Sunday evening. Overall a great place for some comfort food and good value. We love El Paraiso for our Mexican food fix. There's never a doubt, especially at this location, what to expect service, food or drink-wise. The kids love the virgin margaritas. I'm sure you could probably order these anywhere but it's nice they actually make it onto the menu. Our kids know it's HERE they get those ;) Portions are HUGE and delicious. The servers are so fast at replenishing the chips and salsa that sometimes we have to make a conscious effort to speak up and say "No mas" ;) Truth be told I could sit there all day long noshing on chips and salsa With such an extensive menu, I'd be missing out of I chose that route ;) We are also fans of their platters to-go for parties when you want to feed a small or large crowd. Pro Tip: when dining in or even picking up your to-go order, look to the right of the front counter and see if they are making tortillas...so good and just further enhances the experience! read more

So my mother in law is in town. Which means no one can decide on how or where to have dinner and it's ultimately somehow my suggestions and actions that get us fed. I choose trying this place for take out. We go there 15 mins after ordering and it's ready but it was lukewarm, not fresh in ingredients or flavor, and cheese enchiladas were perhaps pre frozen? Almost hard. Something also tasted very canned. We both threw our meals away. Perhaps the ratings are for margaritas? Ambience looks fun inside. Host was nice at pick up. Meh. This is my favorite mexican restaurant in Snohomish. The Casuela margarita is EVERYTHING - fresh orange, grapefruit and lime juices - it is delicous and served in a big ol bowl of a glass. Had one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had here. We ordered off the lunch specials menu. Almost all the items come with rice and beans. My teens orders the item called '4 mini quesadillas' in the vegetarian section. Below all the options, it says all orders come with rice and beans. So, my sons ordered the mini quesadillas and asked for rice and refried beans. When their order came, it was only the 4 mini quesadillas. I asked where were their rice and beans. The very grumpy waiter asked if we wanted that, as if I was stupid for asking. I said, yes, they came with it. He said, "no, the mini quesadillas don't". I tried to explain that the menu said it does (at this point, we didn't have the menus anymore). He huffed off and brought back only a plate of refried beans. I then asked where was the rice. He said, 'you want rice too?'. So then brought rice. When we got our bill, we were charged separately for the rice and beans. A new waiter brought our bill and I asked him why we were charged for the rice and beans and he said because the mini quesadillas don't come with the rice and beans. I asked him to bring me a menu. He went and got one. I pointed out that all these dishes say they come with rice and beans. He said the mini quesadilla's don't. But they don't say they don't. He annoyingly went and got 'manager approval' to remove the charge for the rice and beans. I mentioned that if this is their protocol, they need to seriously update their menu and let customers know beforehand. I have never had to point out something like this in the menu and the sad part is they were so adamant that we pay $11 for extra rice when 4 mini quesadillas was already $13. So, $26 for 4 mini tortillas, some cheese, some beans and some rice. Unreal. I'll never go back. And be warned - double check that you aren't being charged extra for something that is clearly stated on the menu that your item comes with. Shocking they didn't charge me for water. read more
