As a child growing up in Dallas,I remember TV and radio ads routinely for Casa Manana Playhouse. After decades,I decided it was way passed time to check it out! Wow! Have I been missing out! We took in Hairspray yesterday and were blown away by the quality of the production. From the actors to the lighting,live music accompanyment, to the comfortable chairs and acoustics- fantastic. We were excited to see the show despite some of the bad reviews and it was a good experience. Sure, it's not a Hollywood or Las Vegas production, and yes, the concessions are overpriced, but young kids don't know that, and all the kids we saw including ours were cheering and hollering and loving it. So, if you go for the heck of it and want to try something different that kids will enjoy, then do it. Just know that as an adult it might not blow your socks off. A few critical notes: - The audio equipment echoes and isn't powerful enough to be clear to understand. It can make the show confusing. - The action can be loud, overwhelmingly loud at times, so please consider that if you have kids who are sensitive to that. There is gun play and cracking whips. - The concessions area was cash-only the day we went but there's an ATM nearby.
