My fellow foodies, every time I come to Puerto Rico, I make it a mission to support local restaurants, and this visit to El Parrilla did not disappoint! I wasn't sure what to expect since it was recommended to me, but let me tell you... I'll definitely be back before heading home! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was so relaxing. It's the perfect place to sit back, enjoy great food, and take in the island vibes. We ordered the Chuleta Can Can with tostones de pana, and it was absolutely delicious. We also had the filete de mero, which was perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and packed with flavor. To top it all off, we enjoyed a coconut mojito and a passion fruit mojito--both were refreshing and the perfect pairing with our meal. I also have to give a huge shout-out to our server, Michael. He was AMAZING! So friendly, attentive, and accommodating. If you stop by, definitely ask for him--you won't regret it. One thing I love most about visiting Puerto Rico every year is discovering new local restaurants and supporting our community. The food, the hospitality, and the culture never disappoint. Hands down the best food we found in Loiza! Do not miss it, only open Friday-Sunday. We arrived as they were locking the doors to head home on after a busy Saturday. We asked where we could find a drink or a beer. They welcomed us in and turned the lights back on. What hospitality! Mojitos were great and beer was cold. Sunday we returned for lunch. Grouper with garlic butter sauce was cooked perfectly and the seasoning for the creole shrimp was delicious. Our service was typical for the island--no rush and laid back. Restaurant is very clean! Great for groups. Every thing is fresh so when they run out they close up--go early and often. We appreciate the owners and were lucky to meet him, a veteran who spent time in North Carolina and his delightful wife, the talented chef, who made her way back home to her Puerto Rican roots. We were staying at Aquatika and folks we met on the beach recommended this restaurant, especially since it was within walking distance of the resort. We thought we would try it at some point during during our vacation stay, but when we looked it up, discovered that they are only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Considering it was Sunday, we knew that we had to do it that night or miss out completely. It's a small restaurant, with a clean, but plain interior. I don't drink, so I ordered a virgin piña colada. Absolutely the highlight of my trip! Tall, thick, frosty, and absolutely delicious!! One of the most amazing drinks I have ever had! I had the lobster dinner, and my boyfriend had the grouper. Both meals were fabulous, and the side dishes were excellent as well. We were so stuffed we couldn't do dessert, but I wish I had thought to bring some back to the room! The service was good once we sat down and placed our orders, and then it essentially disappeared. No one checked back to refill our drinks, ask about dessert, etc. So that missed the mark a little bit, but we really enjoyed the food so that's all that mattered. As we left, the bar next-door had live music playing so loud you could hear it from blocks around! So consider checking that out as well if you were in the area! read more

Headed there because it was a few minutes from where we were staying and it was recommended. Very disappointed I ordered the whole fried snapper and while it wasn't dry it was the most bland snapper I've ever had. The rice and plantains were on point. My husband had the lobster Al ajillo and while the presentation was beautiful the lobster was chewy and over cooked. The redemption was their coconut flan which was amazing. Beautiful spot with incredible seafood. Classy with indoor and outdoor seating as well as take out. The kid's menu was good with little personal pizzas that worked for my kiddos. Came on recommendations for locals in the area who said the seafood was good!! It did not disappoint i had the garlic butter lobster, sister had the red snapper that was stuffed with other seafood and that tasted AMAZING! And my mom thought she was having seafood with rice but it was in a soup that still was very good. Be sure to clarify if that's what you want. I wasn't impressed with the drinks . Mom ordered a pina colada that looked like a strawberry shake , i had a rum punch that did not taste fresh but that Sangriaa brand and my sister had a margarita she said she enjoyed. I would recommend the red snapper it was huge & had so much to offer for the price. I would fix the doors. We couldn't enjoy our meal in peace because of the amount of bugs flying into our food.. either get a screen door or keep the doors closed because i was grossed out. Loved this family-run and off-the-tourist-track restaurant. It was the best meal I had over ten days in Puerto Rico, trying different restaurants each day. Started off this meal with high hopes based on other reviews. I might suggest if you have read this review and still choose to dance with the devil that you take a good long look at the kitchen before settling into a seat. We thought twice about it, but again, based on other good reviews, we went for it. If I could only have this decision back. So, we sat down and were a little surprised that about half the prices are not on the menu. We were very confused and our waitress seems to give us different prices on things. Oh, and for the record, we aren't cheap a$*es or total food snobs, and have been to plenty of dives all over the world, and often times enjoy them the most. So, anyhow we proceeded even though prices seemed high, like $50 for lobster mofongo. As for the food, it's not worth typing that much: raw chicken fingers, overlooked lobster and snapper and a cold seafood medley that was supposed to be warm. The few items not grossly over or undercooked were ok, but nothing worth tolerating the rest. The kicker is that after sending the chicken, fish and lobster back we were billed for all of it. Now I get that overlooked fish and lobster might be subjective, but undercooked chicken. Come on. When I complained, there was no manager to speak to so i just paid in full to buy peace. Oh and I almost forgot to mention the ambiance, there is none. End of story. Try at your own risk. read more

Everywhere on the internet says they are open till 9pm including Yelp. They turned us away at 7:24pm saying they are closed. The host seemed like he intended to seat us until a woman came from the back and declared we would not be seated. Their outside seating was completely empty so it' wasn't a Covid capacity issue. Closing early on a Friday night seems like a wildly bad business decision. 7 of us are here for 10 days and would have eaten there almost nightly seeing as it's the closest restaurant to Aquatika. Won't be even trying there again during our stay. Bryan's pizza right down the road will have our business. They were at least willing to take our money. read more

Great food! We are staying at the St. Regis and this place is so close and soooo good. It's also much cheaper than the St. Regis!! We had a few appetizers and the fish, octopus, and shrimp plates. They are so hard working and it's very authentic food. Best cold beer as well. Atmosphere isn't fancy but is clean and fine. This restaurant deserves your business. They will take reservations and deal with your terrible Spanish speaking like they did with me!! read more

If I could give it ZERO I would!! This place is horrible! The food sucked and the service was even worse! We were sitting for an hour before anyone even took our order, which should of been the first clue, but it was our first meal after our flight! Our group was hungry! They took even longer to give us our food, were out of meat so half of our group of 8 had to choose another meat dish that was horrible. The meat was hard. Overall I would NOT recommend this place! This place, only open Thursday to Sunday, and likely to stop admitting diners at 7 pm, is the place to go for fresh fish on the north coast. Proprietor Francisco (Frankie) is always on hand, and has family connections for langoustines, Grouper, el Capitan, conch, octopus and so it goes. He keeps his land crabs for three months, on a progressive diet, before preparing them for the table, yielding a sweet and tender flesh. The chimichurri sauce livens up the fish beautifully - don't miss the fried whole snapper! These fish are fresh today and local - not from wholesalers importing from Panama and elsewhere. In lieu of the ubiquitous (and here very good) mofongo, try the mashed breadfruit for a gentler flavor and texture. This food is prepared with love and care - a destination full of friendship and well priced drinks as well! read more

This is a truly family owned and operated out of the way place, that you shouldn't miss. The fish is locally caught and it's as fresh as you get. The food was excellently prepare and amazingly delicious. The drinks include every possible local fruits as well as your typical drinks. Service was amazing. The hours are a little short, I believe Friday thru Sunday and 12 to 7pm. If you can arrange your time for culinary Excellance, do so.
