Our apps came out super fast but for some reason the food came out way later. Some of the food was slightly cold so maybe they had it sitting out to wait for everything to be ready. I got the mofongo w/red snapper and it wasn't anything amazing. Just food for fuel kind of vibe. The mofongo was a little cold and dry to where I had to douse it with their sauce but taste was okay overall. Don't think I'd come back here but it wasn't terrible. Consistently great food, fast and attentive service, fair prices, and a nice view -- this place delivers every time. I've ordered the Can Can pork chop (a tomahawk chop with the pork belly attached) on every visit, and it has never disappointed. Tonight I noticed they offer the pork belly as an appetizer, which opens the door for me to switch up my entrée next time while still getting my favorite part of the dish. They also carry several varieties of Ocean Lab Brewing Company beer, and every one I've tried has been excellent. Service was good. The waitresses were there to greet us immediately. Nice view of the mountains and ocean out of the windows. The place looks like it was recently updated inside. The seafood spiders were seafood piled inside of mashed, fried plantains. The plantains were fried and seasoned well. The seafood was tender and plentiful. The fried shrimp were large and fried well. The rice and beans on the side were so delicious, they could be a meal. The seafood mofongo was saucy and filled with a ton of octopus, shrimp, fish and veggies. Neat place to visit if you're nearby. I am not the target audience for this restaurant, and I'm okay with that. I'm not the target for a LOT of restaurants. But I give such a high rating because, despite this, I still had such an enjoyable time with my family and I know they enjoyed their food as well. They ordered mofongo, empanadas, red snapper, guava and cheese dessert, three types of cheesecake, and chicken with rice, and arepas. Everything we ordered was eaten by one of the four people at our table. Location just outside of Wyndham Grande Rio Mar with views of the ocean. Street parking only. The food was delicious. Fried Red snapper was delicious, monfongo with red snapper garlic and butter sauce was on point soft with hints of crispy pieces in it, and carne fita for the land lovers was on point my husband who is super picky enjoyed every bite. The desserts did not miss. I enjoyed a piña colada also delicious. Price for the food was on par. No pictures we enjoyed the meal too much. read more

This restaurant accommodated my really large family of 24. The food was delicious and the staff were nice. I really liked the fried fish. Family members liked the monfongo, asopao and the steak. Have a drink and take in the view. DO NOT bother spending money on any food. The Mofongo looked like a three day old microwave reheat with frozen broccoli and carrots. My husband ordered the skirt steak which was very salty and marginally smelly. And the waitress we had, tall girl with big glasses, was thoroughly nasty. There is NO ambiance. It was our last night and we thought it would be nice finish to our vacation. I usually try to make the best of a bad situation and look for something positive to say. I visited this restaurant with my husband because of the good reviews we had seen on yelp. We ordered a lobster, tostones and rice with beans. We waited about one hour for the food to be served. They brought us a half cut lobster and the inside of the lobster did not taste like lobster but more like shredded chicken. I am not sure if the lobster was not cooked properly which made the meat taste and have the same texture as chicken breast, we are still a bit confused about that...another thing I noticed was that the ceiling was infested with roaches which made my experience far worst. He would say I'll be right back in the middle of an interchange but he would never come back. Dope little spot tucked in the mountains, with an amazing view of the coast. Cool place to kick back with someone you enjoy chillin with.... and just admire and take in the scene. The valley/view has a very "Costa Rica" feel to it. Food was really good. Had the conch appetizer to start, and then we had the fresh snapper and a crab creole-like dish; all of which were super bomb. It was our last night staying in Puerto Rico and our apartment host highly recommended this spot, saying that it is mostly frequented by the locals. The place is very low-key and has great vibe and view. Our group had a couple rounds of delicious pina coladas and mojitos. I wanted to try something local, so I went with seafood mofongo which was yummy! My friends went with more traditional dishes. Overall, awesome place! Wow!!!!!!! We had grilled lobster 3.5 lbs for two and my mouth is watering to bad back in GA we don't have anything like this. Caribbean lobster is sweet juicy and grilled to perfection. We had two sides with our meal rice and red beans delicious and tostones were perfect combination. Everything is fresh and our waiter was really nice and always wanting to make sure we were doing ok. All I can say forget Richies this is the place to go and eat. If I could give 10 starts I would, to bad we just found this place after our 3rd trip to Puerto Rico. Again you must try this place, the menu is affordable and seems most locals come and eat. So you know this is the place to come eat. The waitress doens't know any english, so be prepared to speak spanish, or gesture really well. The view at this restaurant really cannot be beat. You have the view of the Atlantic Ocean, and this restaurant is on a hill which overlooks the Wyndham Rio Grande resort... I got the langosta (see a pattern here?) and it was cooked in a sauce that you choose, and I choose butter. It came cooked with some onions and with a side of mofongo! Yum. She said it was fresh, but I don't know if she meant fresh as in she just killed it (probably not.) When we were asking how big the steaks were, she brought out a piece to show us, that was uncooked, and it was frozen, so know that the steaks are frozen and not fresh! My partner ordered seafood mofongo, which was cooked in garlic, and had savory pieces of fish, shrimp, lobster, and conch! Conch is delicious btw! I was tenative about the restaurant, as there was nothing but winding street parking, and we were the only dinner guests at 5:30 p.m. But the chatty host from Florida quickly put us at ease. Nothing too fancy, just a Puerto Rican menu focusing on mofongos stuffed with local seafoods: Conch, Octopus, shrimp, or lobster. Everything was well-prepared, although our American pallates were not used to the heavy use of conch and octopus (picture a softball size serving of conch ceviche). The empanadilla sampler was a good variety of fillings from carne to guava. The flank steak was a little tough/flavorless. Of all the entrees at our table, my favorite was the breaded grouper. This place was recommended to us by some locals we met the other night, so we decided to give it a try. My husband and and I got fish and my kids got steak.....the fish was ok, but one of the steaks came out gray. And that was their second attempt (the first time it was over cooked). So that got sent back as well, with no replacements requested. Plus, I understand that where there aren't any screens on the windows and doors that are open, there will be a few bugs. But there were so many bugs that flew in our food, in our drinks, in our hair, on the table......no thank you. The whole dinner was not a good experience for us. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would!!! We visit PR every year and we always come to eat at Montemar, multiple time during our trip! We explore other restaurants but we always come back to Montemar. Nothing compares to the beautiful view, the cleanliness, how fresh and tasty the food is, and how incredibly nice the staff is. And during COVID times now they check temperatures before entering and give you hand sanitizer and they are quick with take out orders. Definitely recommend to anybody in Rio Grande area. Close To the Wyndham Grand resort in Rio Grande, this is a nice alternative to the outlets offered at the hotel. The restaurant overlooks the ocean and has a fantastic view. They do not offer outdoor seating but during the day they keep the windows open so you can enjoy the fresh ocean air. In the evening when the Mosquitos come out to play, they close the windows and crank the a/c. All the servers were extremely friendly. Upon our arrival with a reservation made on a local restaurant guide "Sal" we were given corn fritters as an appetizer on the house. I ordered the Sangria which was ok but mostly tasted like juice to me. We ordered 3 lobster tails that ended up being a total of $125. I ordered a red snapper filet, but I should've listened to the servers advice against it. It was not a fresh filet. He suggested the whole red snapper (house specialty) but after seeing the giant dish on the table next to us, I decided to order the smaller portion. I ordered it "al ajillo" but when the dish was brought out to me it lacked in flavor. The lobster was very good, however, not as fresh as described. For dessert they offered lots of homemade flans and tres leches. They also had casquitos de guayaba which I haven't seen in ages. Overall a very nice experience but the food wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be. Would definitely come back but would order something else. read more

Point is, there were only three tables of customers and we waited for over an hour for the food, which I don't believe is that hard to prepare. OK maybe because we went there at night and they don't have enough chefs.
