We took our dog in for a late night evaluation lastweek since she wasn't feeling well. While it wasn't a true emergency, we arrived at 8:30pm on a Tuesday nite, and ended up waiting a total of 5 hours. What's worse is, we were never even seen. We waited 3 hours in the general waiting area, and then and additional 2 hours in the examination room. In that time frame, our dog was never seen by a doctor. Only her vitals were taken, but we had to reach out and ask for THOSE results. We ended up leaving at 1:30 am since we both had to work. Its understandable that there were a handful of "crisis" cases that came in while we were waiting...but what is unacceptable is NOT providing any type of update or time frame during our visit. They did refund the $100 examination fee since we never were seen. But we feel like a good portion of our night was wasted, and we had to suffer the next morning for lack of sleep. I certainly hope no one else has to experience this type of treatment we received, and that the staff does a better job in maintaining a certain of scheduling, even when emergencies occur. A little bit of compassion would have gone a long way in our specific situation. read more

On Saturday, August 9, at 12:30 a.m., we rushed our dog Ashlee to El Paso Animal Emergency Center after she had a seizure. She continued seizing in their care but was eventually stabilized with medication. We spoke with the vets by phone, but when we said we wanted to bring her home once her seizures were controlled--and declined an in-person neurology consult--updates from the vet stopped. We planned to pick her up at 8 a.m. but were told she was still seizing, so we waited. At 8 p.m., we brought her home with vague discharge instructions and no conversation with a veterinarian. She circled nonstop until 4:30 a.m., then twitched uncontrollably, unable to eat, drink, or sleep. On the afternoon of Sunday, August 10, our vet found signs of brain swelling (without the need for an MRI or CT scan), gave a poor prognosis, and recommended humane euthanasia. Had we been told the truth, we would have spared her suffering. Instead, this clinic pushed tests that would not help, prolonging her pain. We are heartbroken, and knowing she spent her final hours in exhaustion and without peace makes it so much worse. read more

The Doctor was the only decent person during the entire visit and actually handled our puppy with care... but the techs...MY GOD, they were the absolute worst every single one! They are SO rough with the animals, the way they handled them is questionable, forcing pets who are clearly in pain or scared and they don't care..zero empathy and they get angry and defensive when you question them or ask why they are doing what they are doing (red flag)! They techs here are extremely unprofessional, rude, and impatient towards the pet parents. They tell you to wait outside the room while they do labs then physically lock the door behind you and you can do nothing when you hear the dog yelping in pain, that's their policy... to lock owners out because it's a "liability" and "traumatizing" ....because that makes a whole lot of sense. When he finally unlocked the door I told the tech not to lock the door next time and that I'd be recording the rest of the visit. He immediately slammed the swabs down grabbed the paperwork and said "I'm done, someone else can do it" and just left - got that on video too which I would love to show! This guy should not have his job PERIOD. I wish I got his name but I'm including his photo. Request someone else immediately before he handles your pet or straight up abandons you and leaves you and your pet there with nothing. You want all this money payment up front but physically lock the owners out of the room and get mad when they record the visit? More red flags! What are ya'll trying to hide? I was very nervous to go here after seeing so many bad reviews but I had the best experience! My home vet sent us here and they were so kindhearted and sweet to my husband and I. We ended up loosing our baby but they made us feel comfortable and gave us the space we needed. The staff took my kitty's issue seriously the moment we walked in and received the care needed. I loved all the little details that this place has to take care of their customers. There's a cute little coffee bar in the waiting room, in our room once our kitty passed they let us see him one last time and then told us to press the button on the wall that would notify them. I love that it gave my husband and I the privacy and space we needed. They also included paw prints of our baby which was a nice unexpected surprise. Our dog was shot in the face about a month ago and EPAE has been incredible to work with on the absolute miracle of getting her back on her feet. They always get her in promptly, which is surprising since they don't make appointments. Pricing is fair and straight-forward. They have been more than willing to throw an extra stitch in when she rips one out, when her primary vet in Cruces charges $140 to do so. The staff is friendly and helpful and her doctor seems very knowledgeable. We've felt like she has been getting the best possible care since the moment they unloaded her onto the gurney. They took her back to start inducing vomiting. The whole staff was very nice and yes you still have to pay $125 just to be seen. They took some X-rays to make sure nothing else was in her that shouldn't be and gave her back to me. I took my pup in because he was coughing and was very congested. From the moment I walked in I got a bad vibe. First they told me it would be a couple of hours just to be examined, and they wanted to take my dog back and just have him sit there waiting alone. I found this to be very strange. I asked if I could keep in out with me until It was his turn but they said no because dr needed to have him there in line, otherwise they would skip him. They also said that they couldn't tell what was wrong until they did X-rays and it would be at least $500. I asked why so high when I had just paid $100 at my vet a few days ago. In this area there's not much of a selection for emergency vets at 10pm on a Sunday evening. Everyone I asked said the best vets were at this clinic; 45 minutes from my house in Las Cruces. They were right. The vet I got what spectaular, Kari Clement, DMV. The front office and overnight staff... uncaring, distracted with entering stuff in their computers and as close to rude without being rude as one can possibly be. I called ahead and told them my dog had been throwing up all day. That he was dehydrated as I could not get liquids into him and the dehydration had started to effect his motor skills and cognition. He was lethargic and panting hard. I was bringing him over. "Bring him over," I was told by the robotic voice on the phone. "But there is a 4 to 6 hour wait." WHAT!? Ok, there's not a lot of options. I drove him over. Let me say once we got in to see the vet 6 hours later...she was terrific! Ran every possible test she could think of to determine if it was something more than what he may have eaten. She asked questions and actually listened as I told her a play by play of my baby's sick day. $700 later we found he had no serious issues. Just a really bad reaction to something he ate. I'm good with that. He got an IV and a pain shot and we headed home. Here's what's wrong with this place: 1. There is no triage at this hospital. No actual emergency proceedure. First come first serve. So if your dog is extremely sick or injured, you wait your turn. You fill out paperwork while your dog craps all over the inside of your car while looking at you with scared eyes. Or in the case of one lady waiting with her sick dog, watch him have a seizure in the car while you wait and soon die. I get that distemper, in this case, is usually fatal. But to allow someone to sit in their car and watch a pet seize instead of bringing it in and gently allowing it to pass...it's just not the place I want to take my older dog on a regular basis. 2. The staff out front overnight just follows the heartless proceedure of no triage. I walked in with a dog covered in poop from his 45 minute pooping session in my truck. Heavily panting and unable to hold his eyes open. Still 4 to 6 hours before a vet could see him I was told. The receptionist didn't even LOOK at the dog. Just handed me a clipboard, told me to fill it out and went back to her computer screen. Dr Clement was lovely. And the staff that came in after the overnight shift was much more informed, compasionate and personable. Overnight they need to hire some people who actually care about their clients and their clients' pets. read more

My beloved Tomcat CooCoo was bitten by a large rattlesnake on my ranch property out in the Sierra Blanca area. I'm a combat vet and this cat is like my battle buddy and dear to me, so this event was extremely serious and stressful for me. After contacting the clinic, I threw CooCoo in the truck, and dashed to El Paso in the dark of night and pouring monsoon rains, with CooCoo dying in my lap. For starters, I was very grateful that the emergency clinic was open and provided services. And, when I mentioned the situation about it being a rattlesnake bite, they were confident with what I needed to do, and that was to bring him in right away, they would be waiting and the location was coinvent off the freeway by the airport. When we arrived in the pouring rain at night, they took him in immediately and administered antivenom and the care he needed. Not too long after being there, less than an hour, a veterinary doctor spoke with me about the situation, and gave me confidence about what to expect, which was that there's a good chance he will live. I was so relieved and happy, and I could tell, they really had a handle of the situation and knew what they were doing. I was so glad to have brought him there and have him in their care. He stayed overnight, I came back to town the next day, and although he was going in the right direction, particularly with the help of the Oxygen Chamber, he still ran the risk of loosing his leg where he was bit. He stayed overnight longer with the Oxygen treatment and other care from the veterinary doctors and assistants, then showed great enough recovery, to be allowed to go home and heal, with his leg still in question, but his overall well-being, showed good signs. The first few weeks were difficult, but I'm happy to say, CooCoo has made a 100% recover, running and jumping around outside, in the fenced in area with my other cats, and I'm so grateful to the veterinary doctors, assistants, the owner, all were so kind and gracious, on top of being extremely knowledgeable and professional. I couldn't have asked or received better service or results, everything was perfect. Additionally, the fee was very reasonable for what they were doing and I really appreciated the financing company they recommended to help make the payment easier. It was 0% financing for the first 6 months, and I have a couple months left in that time and its payed off, a real win-win payment plan. In closing, I would highly recommend El Paso Animal Emergency & Veterinary Services. Every aspect of CooCoo's and my unfortunate experience, turned for the very better all because of them and what they did. Avoid this place at all costs. They immediately said my dog has congenital heart failure and that she has fluid in her heart and lungs before imaging was even done. They immediately wanted to drain the "fluid". After the imagine was done they didn't even show us.... All they care about is your money. One of the workers there, Ashley said "If it's not about the money then you should just do it"... wtf. They didn't explain any of the testing that was done. My dogs oxygen levels were slightly low and they basically shamed us for wanting to take her home and making it seem like she would die right away if we took her home. There wasn't even any compassion or empathy or explanations. It's like they just write you up a bunch of shit and don't focus on the reason why you brought your dog in in the first place. We took the Imaging/X-rays to another Vet at Far East Animal Care Center right off Joe Battle and she said they were very hard to even interpret. So they took their own X-rays/imaging and confirmed there was no fluid in her heart or lungs, nor does she have congenital heart failure. If I could give 0 stars I could. This is my first ever Yelp review because it's absolutely disgusting how they wanted to charge us almost $3,500 for something that doesn't even exist. I urge anyone who is reading this not to take your pet here. UPDATE** 07/25/2022 We just received a refund for the X-ray consultation we never received. I'm still upset we wasted over $1,000 just for our dog to be improperly diagnosed. Absolute thieves. I have been struggling to find the words to describe my experience at this facility in October of 2021 and it has been difficult. The short version of the story is that I was told my dog was "fine" and just whining because she was anxious/old -- she ended up having a fractured vertebrate which ultimately lead to me making the decision to euthanize because I knew if I had to continue pain control over the weekend and it didn't subside I would be stuck going back to El Paso Emergency since my primary vet would not be open. Firstly -- it appeared the intake person/receptionist was calling the shots on treatment plans and determining costs based on whatever number he decided to throw out. It was my understanding he was not a veterinarian nor did he perform any sort of examination on my dog so this is truly puzzling. I was asked several times if I wanted to complete euthanasia paperwork PRIOR to my dog even being looked at by the veterinarian. (Mind you from an external perspective she appeared "fine," obvious in the fact that they sent her hope and told me that.) The same receptionist told me various diagnostics that would be performed without consulting the vet and throwing out numbers. I had to remind him several times I would like to discuss the treatment of my dog with the vet and determine a path to diagnosis based on the vet's findings after examing my dog. Honestly, I am fortunate (for the first time in my life) that money would not have dissuaded me in treatment decisions, but this person had automatically decided it would. That is very wrong and incredibly frustrating. I am honestly convinced that this information (my hesitancy to accept treatment options/costs prior to examination) was then relayed to the veterinarian who chose to run absolutely NO diagnostic testing on my dog (xray, bloodwork, etc). For perspective, my primary veterinarian trusted me in that something was wrong with my dog, and upon a simple physical examination that included slight pressure to her rear vertebrate which caused her to collapse, then suggested an x-ray to confirm the fracture. It is such a shame that there is a lack of emergency veterinary care in the area and even more of a shame that the single provider is so careless. I know vets cannot be mind readers and I understand the difficulty of the field, the current shortages, etc, but there really is no excuse for the lack of options and care for my pet. I really hate to say it, but in retrospect, I really wish I would have completely skipped my visit despite the clear pain my dog was in and just waited till my primary vet opened. read more

Let me start with this. Kora was a very sweet and loving Lab mix. Everyone loved her and misses her immensely. October 4th at 6 PM she was healthy, running around and barking at the cats in the yard. At this time, I left for my birthday dinner and returned at 7:20 to find her on the patio. She was very lethargic and unable to stand on her own. I got her to the Emergency Hospital on Airway at 8:00 PM and filled out the paperwork and paid the $110.00 for the initial consultation. After waiting with Kora laying on the floor of the waiting room she was taken to the back. At approximately 9 PM I was informed by Dr. Simpson that Kora did not have a detectable blood pressure and was extremely dehydrated. She was dehydrated due to shock. For the next two hours, Kora waited to be treated. The problem with waiting is that when you have these conditions, the organs start to fail. The longer you wait the more likely that death will follow. I was told a bit after 10 PM that the Dr. Simpson wanted to speak to me. I waited for about 20 minutes and the lady from the front came in with another invoice. We talked briefly about the labs they wanted to run and then I signed for the $1800 in charges. I was asked if I wanted to see Kora and of course I said yes. I thought I would be taken to the back to see her. They walked her into the exam room where I was which surprised me. I thought she was being treated with an IV at this time instead of just sitting alone and afraid in a cage in the back deteriorating. I laid there on the floor with her petting her and telling her the things she should hear. She wagged her tail and looked at me in the eyes the whole time. My instinct told me that she needed immediate care and so I knocked on the door and got the vet tech. I said to her that it was important that she be treated with an IV to try and stabilize her. The tech seemed annoyed and said "she's on the board". I asked what that meant and she said "it will be another 30 to 60 minutes". I then picked Kora up and she immediately used the last of her strength to try to go out the door to go home. I picked her up and pointed her to the door to the treatment area. The vet tech started to pull her by the neck from the leash and I said to hold on. I picked her up again and took her to the door and then gently pushed her to the back. That is the last image of have of her as she died soon after that of cardiac arrest. She was only 9. This haunts me daily. I have since spoken to her regular vet, two vet techs, and other medical professionals. They all say that she should have been put on the IV immediately. This should have been the first thing. When I received an email with a link to the x-rays, it included Dr. Simpsons' Hotmail address and the note that if I had questions to email her. I did and she never responded. When I picked up Kora's ashes, I asked to speak with her, but she was not available. The person at the front desk could not explain why she was not put on an IV until 11 PM or later, but she did say the on-call vet makes that decision. So, when you look at these other reviews and they say they are looking into it and to contact them to discuss further, well from my experience that is untrue. Had Kora been put on an IV after Dr. Simpson initially examined her, she may have lived. There is no way to tell for certain, but at least I wouldn't feel this crushing guilt that I didn't do enough for her. I hope if you are reading this and your pet is being treated here hopefully, they will make a better effort to save your beloved pet than did mine. read more

This place is not only a joke but awful! Had an emergency w my dog on Saturday and had to take her in. They charge $100 + just to be seen. They took my dog and put her in a kennel in the back. I thought she'd be taken care of and they just do a quick exam on the outside and then come and want to charge for Anything and everything under the sun. They told us they'd give her meds for a few days and all it was was probiotics we paid $40 for that looked like samples. They were 'understaffed' yet they had several technicians in the back and at least three up front just chit chatting. We waited 3 hours, for us to just leave her in a kennel in the back alone and scared. We had to take her to her vet on Monday and they got everything we needed done. Do better El Paso and get a better 24 hour vet service. read more

Malpractice... lack of communication and uncoordinated efforts led to complications. They did not treat my cat as an emergency even because her condition was a "silent" one. Unless your pet outwardly looks like an emergency, don't expect them to give your pet the best care. At first, I had a tremendously positive experience taking my cat in, despite the naturally stressful situation my cat and I were facing. I was met with a sincerely kind and compassionate receptionist who was very comforting. My wait for the doctor was long though, it is an ER vet, and they are often pulled in every direction. Although I would have liked to be seen right away, I understood. But if I were to place my cat's life in their hands, I was sure to treat everyone with the respect they deserve. Then I sadly realized they were not treating my cat in a timely manner, they were not treating her like an emergency that she was. They kept postponing her care nearly 3 days later! with all kinds of excuses. I approved of feeding tube placement and various treatment, which they took their time to execute... AND did backwards. The best FIRST course of treatment for a cat with pancreatitis is to ensure nutrition, but instead the have her hyperbaric oxygen treatments first! While her body wasted away... On top of that, there ended up being a lot of miscommunications between the vets and techs, which led to unnecessary diagnostic tests for an incorrect diagnosis which my partner and I caught. After we pointed that out they were apologetic but it was already too late. Because of their delayed treatment my cat suffered tremendous complications. She was released to me, nothing but skin and bones... it was too late. I wish I could say to not take your pet here but unfortunately it is all we have in El Paso. I took my dog for a blood transfusion and they performed an ultrasound and discovered a tumor on her spleen and another one on her liver and couldn't be removed. More likely cancerous. I was told that the tumor was causing internal bleeding and hence the anemia. They said there was nothing to do but to put her to sleep. She was given pain medication and pills to increase her apetite. I bought an urn for when the innevitable happened. Even her regular vet said the same based on the test results from the emergency clinic. I am so glad I trusted my gut and asked for a second opinion. Another doctor performed a proper ultrasound, shaving her tummy, found out that the tumor could be removed and did an splenectomy, biopsy and the tumor was bening. My dog is thriving now and I am so happy to have her for many years, hopefully. "I'm sorry" I took my dog on the 4th of July weekend. I guess the vet was upset for working on a holiday. read more

I took my 3 dogs to this emergency vet a week ago, and, got appropriate treatment for unexplained diarrhea, without being coerced into unneccesary tests or treatments. Based on the FIRST visit, I give 3 stars. The most recent visit with my oldest dog Sat nite is ONE STAR. She collapsed when I went to take her out for the last potty of the nite. I took her in, breathing rapidly, weak, and listless, but awake and responsive. They immediately put her 'in the back', then I waited...and waited, with no update, for two hours. When I finally met with the vet (none of their personnel have ID badge, or introduce themselves with their credentials to differentiate them from a vet tech.) it was determined she was not dehydrated like I initially thought, but was in an exacerbation of congestive heart failure. The past week of diarrhea messed with her absorption and getting her maintenance meds. This was good news to me, because she was eating and drinking well, poop had returned to normal, but her lungs had fluid that could be pee'd out with the medicine I had at home. The vet described a tx plan including keeping her in overnite to give her IV Lasix (same med I had at home), oxygen (she was 'in an oxygen tent), xrays to rule out pneumonia, etc. labs. I thouhgt it odd that the vet didn't have the dog's oxygen saturation numbers on the tip of her tongue ("The tech didn't write it down"). How would you worry about 'weaning' off oxygen if you don't know what the presenting baseline sat is? Then the car salesman vet tech came in with a written tx plan wanting $1300 deposit AND me authorizing them to keep her 12-24 hours....what? One IV catheter (not the tubing, not the bag of fluid) was billed at $94...WTF! That catheter cost is $3.50-5. I told them I had only brought $1000 with me and at that point I probably should have asked to go over a different tx plan with the VET. He proceeded to try to school me in 'emergency' care (I'm an RN who has worked Level 1 Trauma, including taking SICKER patients than this dog to the OR on a DAILY basis). I asked him ("I'm the vet tech supervisor") what the sat was...same answer, no se. I had to persist to make him understand I needed information to make an INFORMED decision about what to do with my 16 year old poodle. I could here him conferencing with the doc behind the tx room door. He came back with a number of 87%...by the time he returned, I didn't believe that they even checked an inital sat, because that number would have been the FIRST thing out of their mouth if it was TRUE. After two hours of waiting, the only tx they initiated was 'oxygen tent'...and they didn't know her oxygen saturation! I was informed they won't initate treatment until authorized and PAID. I signed my dog out against medical advice and accelerated her Lasix (every 8 hours, instead of every 12 hours) once I got home. Adding COQ 10 liquid out of my gelcaps gave her heart muscle some energy...by Sunday evening she was walking around looking for MORE food, still drinking well, and peeing up a storm in her diapers. I called to speak with the clinic manager about their operations and did not receive a callback from the message I left. I'm not a resident of El Paso, but you can be sure I'm following up with OTHER emergency vet references from my co-workers! read more

This place is horrible. I've said it before and I'll say it again!!! They take advantage of people who are desperate to give their pets treatment. My dog was taken in at 8:30pm the first notes documented at 8:59pm. He went in for a fractured paw AND THEY DID NOT EVEN GIVE HIM PAIN MEDS UNTIL 1:00am. They waited 4hrs to give him relief. HOW CRUEL!!!!! They also told me they needed to keep him for 24hrs because they wouldn't get his X-ray results back because of covid and the freeze and apparently splints take forever to be placed.... blah blah blah.... when I told them I was bringing him home THEY INCLUDED THE X-RAYS. So they were trying to keep him for no reason at all. They milk their customers for money and it's disgusting. I went to give my sweet baby some pain relief and treatment and they left him in a kennel with obvious deformities. I absolutely hate this place I wish another ER vet would open up and provide legitimate treatment without gouging their customers. The price is not worth the quality of care. Nobody likes going to the vet, especially during an emergency. This was as great of an experience as I could've asked for. The receptionist was efficient & friendly, the tech was kind & expedient and Dr. Julie Case was exceptional. She took the time to analyze my dog's allergic reaction to appropriately determine the plan of care. I can imagine that some vet offices would automatically start an IV, draw a set of labs and maybe even do some imaging. Not here -- my bill was incredibly reasonable. I believe it's $89 flat rate to be seen (this is just the doctor's exam cost). Once seen by the doc, they'll make their recommendation on what they think needs to be done & give you a print of out of the estimate. It sounds like a lot of paperwork but trust me, they are expedient and quick. The location was easy to find, staff was welcoming, parking lot had plenty of spots & the medical care from clinical staff was top notch. Highly recommend this ER vet should you find yourself in a pet energy. Thanks, team!! read more

I had to bring my Labrador here because I noticed she was having some issues and stomach looked bloated. The vet tech opened the door for us looked at our dog and immediately saw she was bloated and took her straight back before we even gave receptionist our Info. He knew it was time sensitive as it turned out she had bloat and her stomach turned. She had to be rushed into surgery immediately. During this very emotional time eveyone was very understanding and kept us updated as we waited. Surgery was successful and she stayed 4 days in the hospital. We're able to visit her and call anytime and we're given constant updates. I felt confident she was in great hands. The staff love what they do, are compassionate and care about the animals! Highly recommend, they are awesome! I'd give 10 stars if I could! read more
