Nothing less than phenomenal! Food was the freshest I've ever had and chips were literally burning hot. The salsa , mangos , soda is all so fresh and madd then and there. I got the chilaquiles and they were life changing, bursting with flavors of citrus umami salty and spicy. Absolutely amazing and the staff there are some of the nicest people I've ever met. The art and just overall design of this place is incredible with painting of famous celebrities and beautiful art. Please do this restaurant right by supporting them and their amazing business. I've never really tried other Mexican Places around this area but I'm really glad I stumbled upon this place via yelp! We placed an order for takeout got the tacos & the chips with guac. The tacos we got were the chicken, steak, al pastor, carnita & chorizo. It came with a side of rice, salsa verde & salsa roja. We loved each of the tacos as they all were full of flavor and the meats were tender. My favorite were the al pastor tacos as it came with bits of pineapple which added a refreshing sweetness to the taco! Chips & guac were both freshly made & a perfect addition to our tacos. They fried the chips fresh for us so they were piping hot & crispy when we got home. In store, they also sell various Jarritos sodas, seasonings and hot sauces if you want to take any home. If you're looking for authentic Mexican tacos, this places is definitely worth checking out. read more

This spot is a little hole in the wall with about three booths and a table for six. The decor is minimal, the ambiance (like a small cafeteria) but none of that really matters to me if the food is good and the staff friendly. Yes to both of those. I had the Mexican Style tacos with pork alpastor style. They were delicious. The rice was cooked very differently than I've had anywhere else before. It seemed to be either over cooked and maybe split grind but it was tasty and moist nothing was overly seasoned with salt, which happens at so many Mexican places, including the tortilla chips which came out hot, unsalted and with a red and green salsa. Also delicious. There a vegetarian options too. This place is great for taking out food. I saw at least eight orders being picked up while here. It's worth trying. read more

This place is great for vegetarians! We've gotten the veggie burrito and veggie tacos, and they are full of spinach, broccoli, peppers and onions. The service is so fast. They actually apologized for a takeout order taking 10 minutes, which I consider to be fast, not slow. The chips and guac have been praised in other reviews here, and I totally agree that it is delicious. Salsas are awesome. If you are vegan, I think this place would work for you. You just would have to check to make sure. There's new outside furniture and colorful booths inside as well. We miss the old owners, who were very sweet and made a great breakfast especially, but we are loving the new owners now that we have checked it out. You won't regret eating here. The TORTA. I just ordered about an hour ago(April 16th 2022, 5pm.) This is a joke. I've had plenty of tortas in my life but this is a shame. Was told it comes with lettuce, tomato, onions, jalapenos, beans, avocado,and quesillo. I got the JUMBO. It had 2 tiny jalapenos, 1 sliver of avocado ,the thinnest spread of beans, no onions, no quesillo cheese and the smallest sprinkle of lettuce. Oh and it came with a mcdonalds happy meal size amount of fries. For 14$. This was the skimpiest sandwhich I've ever eaten in my entire life. The torta is my favorite sandwich but this is a disgrace to Mexico and any restaurants that sells sandwiches in general. I have never been this disappointed in a meal I've ordered before. Word of advice is DONT GO HERE. They skimp and try to save money bye jipping the customers. Cheapest people ever. Such a damn shame. read more

The two things we ordered were decent.... not top notch. The chicken chunks in both the tostada salad and the burrito were the ones that were probably cooked fresh at lunch but we were in there at 4:15 and that was stupid on my part to go into a small restaurant in a small town a half-hour before they close. One thing that is not ok is the two salad dressings that were brought out to go on the tostada salad... both low-end super market squeeze plastic bottles of a crappy ranch and a crappy italian. Yes... owner was friendly, place was kinda loosely put together.... thick clear plastic table covers for that quick wipe-down that, along with the general chaos of poorly organized Mexican snacks, cases of sodas and beer piled around make the place feel a little dingy. I don't think this place would last long in LA but it's not your worst option if you are in Highland with no car and you are hungry. I'm giving 4 stars because this seems to be owned by a very nice lady who doesn't need some a-hole who has only been in the restaurant once (and at the wrong time of day) giving her a bad review. The food was decent and maybe even great at lunchtime. But, seriously guys... you have refrigeration there... why are you using these crappy off-the-shelf salad dressings? Make your own! I was pointed in the direction of this place when I mentioned I wanted some good authentic Mexican food. I miss food from home and it's hard to find good solid Mexican food. I love that it's a little hole in the wall spot. We ordered the pork, steak, and chorizo tacos and a plate of refried beans and rice. The food was delicious and just enough for our family of 5. The service was great even though we arrived 15 minutes before closing. The lady greeted us with a smile and brought the food out in a timely manner. We look forward to going back! read more

This place was amazing. I got a veggie burrito and it was extremely flavorful. I felt like I was at someone's home eating this.

The food here is so good! She (Mama) cooks it up fresh and cooks with love! I have at least 3 Mexican restaurants within 7 minutes from my home, but when we want Mexican food we drive 25 minutes to El-Paso, order, chat with Mama while she cooks, take our food, drive home, and eat.(The food is still at perfect temperature) Not a place to take a date, but if you want to pop in for lunch you can sit down and eat. Otherwise I would recommend take out. We have eaten half of our order there and taken the rest home. (We were hungry) I definitely recommend you try the food. read more

I'm sorry, but at my 7th visit, I still cannot find time to take a photo before I dive in. Our office discovered this family-owned gem with true Western not Americana-ground beef tacos a few months ago. I love grabbing a can of soda and 4 asada (steak) tacos for a toal of $9 on Tuesdays. Give this place a try instead of the crowded New Paltz Mexican spots. The owner is a sweet woman who greets you with a smile and is always cleaning/organizing and answering phones when you arrive. Food is cooked traditional, simple and very tasty, with a choice of 3 sauces. This is my go-to taco spot outside NP, however I have not tried any burritos or enchiladas. The staff here are beyond friendly. I would come back just for their smiling faces. When you first walk in, it's a little disorienting... Is this a convenience store? Oh, there's a scribbled menu over there! Why is the linoleum floor so dirty looking? For tacos that are a bit over a $1 and made on homemade corn tortillas, stop asking questions. You're in the right place. Enchiladas with verde sauce was good. The queso fresco was a nice touch and the sauce was spicy and tasted fresh. The overall portions are huge. I just love the food. I have grown to care less what It looks like because it's not fine dining and I go when I don't want fine dining prices which is so often. I love the chef owner and she's so sweet to me. The chorizo spicy pork, carne steak, chicken all amazing. The seasoning is perfect, the salas on point. It's not the type of place where you get chips and salsa upon sitting but the food is legit, authentic and well worth the price and just tastes so good. I enjoy this place and recomendable if you're in the area, or need a cheap lunch that won't sacrifice the flavor. read more

I thought about giving only four stars to El Paso because it is, as others have noted, kind of a hole in the wall. But to call it "dingy" as another reviewer did is flat-out wrong. It's clean, bright, cheerful, and airy ... but it is kind of cluttered, with cardboard boxes with beverages and food items stacked in the corner, multiple refrigeration units, and a bar against the wall with drink service items. It doesn't leave much room in the dining area. There are several tables inside and one on the sidewalk outside (in picturesque and quiet downtown Highland). But generally it's more of a deli than it is a sit-down place. Given that, if you know that's what it is, then you will find absolutely top-notch Mexican fare for excellent prices, delivered quickly and cheerfully. I made a mistake and ended up ordering two meals ... my fault, I pointed at the list of meats under the taco section while I was ordering meats for the three enchiladas I'd ordered. So I got three tacos with my selected meats, along with three enchiladas with chicken (which I didn't think I was ordering). But what a great mistake this turned out to be! The tacos that I didn't want were really great and a steal at $1.50 each. They can't possibly be making money on these tacos, so I expect the price will increase before too long. They are traditional Mexican tacos, just basically meat in a tortilla, with chopped onions and cilantro. I got two chorizo and one carnitas. All were terrific; the chorizo was a bit greasy but I didn't mind. The carnitas was nice and lean, no globs of fat like you get sometimes with carnitas. Sauce on the side. I got the green sauce and it is excellent. They also threw in three quarters of a lime, which added zest. Like I said ... they aren't making money on tacos. I ate the three and just one of the enchiladas, which also was excellent. The chicken was lean and diced, tortillas all fresh and tasty. The enchiladas came with rice and beans. Both were very good. I'd absolutely return and strongly recommend El Paso in Highland to anyone ... just don't go there expecting a sit-down Tex-Mex place with adobe walls and sombreros and a fountain and crap like that. This is a no-nonsense deli, and it is terrific. read more

We used to frequent this place often, and have introduced many of our friends as well. But after sometime, we realized that the owner would try to charge us more than what we expected to pay. It was slightly annoying, but it happens I guess.. it was well worth the yummy food. But the last time we ate there, my husband ordered a soup that was "off-menu" after he walked in on a friend eating the same exact soup, so he ordered the same exact item. After he finished, he was charged $14! Yes, it was technically an "off-menu" item, but it seemed overly expensive. We then asked our friend what he paid, and he said "$10." It seems ludicrous that in such a small town, they would overcharge their customers so blatantly. As a result, we have not gone back since. So customers: If you decide to eat there, PLEASE make sure you are charged the correct amount according to menu prices! read more
