Solid neighborhood Italian restaurant with friendly staff, fresh ingredients and a decent wine selection. I really appreciated how they made something for me that was Vegan. They have some eggless pasta that I had prepared with garlic and oil topped with mushrooms and spinach. With it I had a nice heavy pour of their delicious house Montepulciano. Let me first start by saying that my wife and I ate twice there and in those two times we had baked ziti, manicotti, and chicken parm. All of the above mentioned plates were in my opinion in incredibly good. What was not good, was the bread basket on both occasions. For an Italian restaurant serving the kind of bread that they serve is not a good thing for an expensive restaurant. The first time the bread was non-descriptive and just basically was not good. On the second time the bread that they gave us, the outer crust was scaling off of the bread, which probably means that it was frozen for a long time in the freezer and then reheated it was terrible. We did send it back and they gave us new bread in that style, which was still not good then while we were there, an older employee woman?, was talking loudly and disrespectfully to the workers, and made for a awkward dining experience. In addition, you have to pay for salad when you buy a meal. I don't think I've ever been in a good Italian restaurant where the salad didn't come with the meal. Again, I'm gonna say that the plates that my wife and I had the baked ziti the chicken Parm the manicotti in my opinion were excellent and this probably won't deter us from dining there, but thus far we have found a few good Italian restaurants, so we might pass this one up for a place that has better bread. We always try to support local and this review by no means is to put down this establishment, but to hopefully make them aware that good Italian bread matters at a good Italian restaurant. Tucked away in Highland NY, not far from Poughkeepsie, is this little gem. Charming atmosphere, and lots of character. Over 100 menu items, and good selection of wine by the glass or by the bottle, fairly priced. Portions are large, and everything is freshly prepared in the kitchen. A truly amazing restaurant. We came to this location for a last-minute weekend getaway. I researched a couple places to eat in advance that had good reviews. Out of all the places in the area that we visited, this establishment won the prize for best service and best food. The inside is cozy and romantic and the servers were kind and attentive. My husband and I were so delighted by their homemade pasta that we were talking about it days later. We recently moved to the Hudson Valley and are always exploring new places to eat. This was our first time at this restaurant and most likely, it will be our last. The space itself is pleasant, and the bathroom was impressively clean, probably the highlight of the visit. Our server was polite and low-key, which I appreciated. But beyond that, there's not much good to say. The food was simply disappointing. The breaded chicken was barely warm, soggy, and dripping with oil. The cheese on top wasn't even fully melted. The pasta dish was hot but completely bland--not a hint of seasoning, even salt was lacking. And then the Cobb salad... a scattering of romaine lettuce and dry blue cheese crumbles, with nothing remotely flavorful to redeem it. It's a shame, because the location is convenient, but when not a single dish has any flavor and everything is this poorly executed, there's really no reason to return. read more

First time here. It was packed on Friday night, but we were accomodated swiftly. They didn't have a wine bottle list so we ended up ordering a bottle of house wine but for the price ($48!!) you're better off ordering by the glass 100%. I had Rigatoni Carbonara at Vigneto Cafe today. I give all of the credit to Leslie Morris Sewell ! She suggested I try it ,and it was the best. Well, Leslie was spot on! Dino, the owner hooked me up. Even though they don't serve lunch during the week. He made an exception for me. I also got Fried Calamari. Everything was fantastic!! The light coating was so crispy, yet the Calamari was so tender! I love it with lots of lemon and a little sauce. It was perfect! The Rigatoni Carbonara is better than anything I have ever had. The Rigatoni were full of sauce, bacon and fresh peas in every bite! And the serving is enough for 3 meals. It also came with a side salad and excellent house made Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. All in all I would give Vigneto Cafe a 10 out of 10!! Cute little restaurant with great people but damn the food is just not good. Fish is bland and overcooked. Pasta is mushy. Parm is blah. Gravy is somewhat flavorless. Even the pizza reminds me more of something you'd find at a mall. Except worse. And worst of all - it's not cheap! After actually tasting this food it's a goddamn crime how much they charge for it. We frequently go to Vignetos as it it a cosy and friendly place. However our special treat there on Wednesday nights is their singer, Angela Bruno. She has a beautiful voice and has an amazing repertoire of songs. She also sings some great songs in Italian! All in all it is a great evening there with wonderful staff and food. read more

The bread was really cheap and not warm and came with butter patties in those little plastic things you get at a motel. Portion sizes were good but the chicken in my Cobb was rubbery and the bacon was extremely thin and seemed cheap. Carbonara was much better. Smoky and flavorful. This is hudson valley's hidden gem. If you like soup, they make the absolute best pasta fagioli soup in the universe. It's almost like a creamy tomato base with penne, beans and garlic. Even if you're not usually into that type of soup seriously try it. Their food is fantastic and it's usually bustling in this relatively small venue. It's casual but elegant and the low light and generous servings of wine make this a premier date night spot. Avoid busy nights like Friday and Saturday but if there's a weeknight you don't feel like cooking, come here. They have some live music from time to time and a dj of some kind but I'm not really a fan of that ever. The service is generally great. Lauren is my favorite server and I've never had such a great experience at a restaurant than with her, she's so comforting and attentive it's fantastic. In short: amazing food, service was a bit spotty. Longer answer: the wine glasses and food portions were very generous, which justified the higher price tag for the meal. We appreciated that the owner offered us the chance to sample some wines, but we were good with the chardonnay and the lambrusco. We ordered the chicken francese and the penne with vodka sauce, which came with two salads. While I greatly appreciated the offer to substitute my side salad for a caesar at no extra cost, the homemade caesar dressing was a tad underwhelming. The balsamic vinaigrette they used however was one of the best I'd had. As for the entrees, the chicken francese was very tender (yum!) and the penne was a solid al dente that packed lots of flavor in the sauce-- spot on. I really appreciated that they included a cup of grated parmesan with a lid so I could scoop it onto my dish as much as I'd like. While I did not have a dessert this time, they looked really good from what I could see and had a large selection. The service on the other hand regrettably left more to be desired. While the owner was very polite and apologized for the noticeable delay in taking our order, the food was slow to come out. I don't consider myself an impatient person, but we got there a little after 7 pm on a Thursday night and didn't leave until almost 9:30. A lot of that time was waiting for the food. One reason for this could have been the fact that we sat outside and was forgotten about. I emptied my water glass at the beginning and since the waiter did not come out often, I didn't get more water for over 30 minutes. It felt like we were a burden to get service, which didn't feel so good. While the food was top notch and delicious enough to earn my business again, I might have to do more takeout from here moving forward. read more

Excellent Southern and Northern Italian cuisine. This place was recommended by a friend of mine. It has become a "regular" stop for me each time I return the this general location. They seem to excel at chicken and all sorts of veal dishes. You must also try their jauger schnitzel with home-made Spretzil. The owner's also have several restaurants in Stuttgart, Germany; hence, that "slice" of this very tasty veal dish. I am very pleased that they are able to stay open during Covid.
