I came to town for a special person's birthday, and we had a time! The location was clean, servers were friendly, and there was ample parking outside. I'll start off by saying that the people in our party were extremely late. I was the first to arrive, but people trickled in very slowly. I appreciate the patience of the staff with this hiccup, and allowing me to be seated and treated to water and chips/beans while I awaited the remainder of the party! That was very kind. The food was great! I live in Cali, so I wasn't expecting the best Mexican food, but it definitely was delicious. I got the steak and shrimp fajitas, which seemed to be a favorite of the birthday girl who liked my food more than her nachos! Haha. While I didn't drink, several others at the table had drinks, and they were really pretty! There was this one flight of cocktails a few people ordered that had a stellar presentation. The food was okay. Service was okay as well, but got one quesadilla instead of two. When we got the check 20% gratuity and card fee was added without us knowing. Price went from $62 to $73. We had to not leave a tip because one was already added. We came outside and the place was packed. People were parked in places that weren't even parking spots. Two way turned into one way. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of great things to say about El Paso. The wait staff was not up to par, none of the drinks we ordered were accurate, the meals we ordered felt cheap and not satisfying even for a Tex Mex restaurant. The only thing I can rave about was the bean dip with the chips and salsa. We were recommended to come here by staff at the hotel we stayed at (which is within walking distance). I am writing to express my disappointment with our recent experience at El Paso Mexican Grill on Pinhook. We regularly dine there on Sundays after church, and my 90-year-old mother typically shares my meal or orders a cup of soup. However, today I ordered something I thought she might not enjoy, so I opted to order her the chicken strips from the kids' menu. I was informed that this was not possible due to her age. She's 90 and my 2 year old granddaughter eats more than her. We initially decided to take our business elsewhere, but the waitress spoke with the manager, who made an exception 'this time' and allowed us to proceed with the order. First time here, not impressed. Waitress was kind when she came to the table, but looked like we were a bother, we didn't require much attention. Waited a long time for refills. The soda's ( got root beer then sprite) had no carbonation, switched to tea. I got the fish tacos, I didn't realize that the "side salad" was actually ON the tacos. Usually fish tacos are served with a cabbage topping, ( at other places I've been) so I assumed the same, I'll know to ask from now on any other place I go. I went to El Paso on Pinhook for the first time this week. There were a few positives. -Our server was awesome! He was kind & did a fabulous job. -The outdoor seating is nice. -The manager was nice & helpful. Now why did I give this restaurant a 1 star rating? Because their menu is very misleading. I've attached a picture of the menu. They have an "El Paso Vegetarian Dishes" section except the dishes with beans are not vegetarian. I spoke with the manager. She told me that the beans contain lard. Lard is pig fat. Lard is NOT vegetarian. Foods cooked in lard are NOT vegetarian. I don't expect restaurants to cater to every single person but do not advertise on your menu something that is clearly not! The manager even agreed with me that the items listed under the vegetarian section, with beans, clearly were not vegetarian. I ended up ordering the veggie fajitas cooked in olive oil & gave away my rice & beans. I didn't even ask if the rice was cooked in chicken broth, my guess is it probably is. The veggie fajitas were just onions & bell peppers & 1 (ONE) slice of mushroom. Definitely not worth the money. El Paso please change your menu to reflect the food you are actually serving. I waited 2 1/2 hours for my drink which wasn't right at first didn't come with a straw and then a another 1 1/2 hours for the food in which case I ordered a cheese quesadilla with fries and they gave me a chicken quesadilla with no French fries or any other side. I would like to say that their service is lackadaisical and terrible. lastly they played music to loud in order to talk to my friend we would have to yell at eachother just to hear a whisper. We did not request this spot nor was the restaurant busy enough to warrant putting us this in spot. When our food was delivered the runner was doing it so quickly he dropped one of the tacos on our table, then left. Our waitress came over later apologized. Great , then proceeded to clean it up, because it was left there, throughout 1/2 of our meal my 19 year old needed water again. NOPE. Went back to the bar for a refill. AGAIN. We then asked for the beans which she eventually brought but, then charged us $5 for as a charro soup. We had the menu showed her she disagreed we were frustrated at this point, paid tipped and left. I will not leave less than 20% for even shitty service but, know that this will be reviewed and PAY BETTER ATTENTION TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.
