The place looks like it had all the potential to be a winner. While it was ok, it was nothing incredible in terms of either service nor food. I will say that I enjoyed the chips and salsa. I have been looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant for a few years since moving to AL. I finally found one that has that home cooked taste. Food was delicious. I was so excited to eat forgot to snap pics. I had a pupusa and an asada sope with Mexican coke, and a myriad of salsas from the salsa bar. Chips were hot and fresh. My brother had asada tacos and a pupusa. Service was excellent. Server was attentive and staff were fast. Looking forward to coming back again soon! read more

When you pull up to this restaurant it looks a little sketchy because of its rough exterior. However, I have found that the best Mexican restaurants usually look a bit rough. When you enter the restaurant it is quite small so you might not want to come with a group of more than four people. Once you choose your table they bring you chips and salsa which were very tasty. I ordered two beef tacos, a tostada, and two chicken tamales. The tacos were underwhelming and bland, but were much better once I added the mysterious spicy green avocado sauce from the salsa bar. The tostada was a little better, but nothing special. The tamales were very good and probably the best part of the meal. Overall, the service was good and the food was mediocre, but the price was right. Unfortunately, I don't I'll be back though. read more

The restaurant itself is small and very charming! Has that authentic feel. Love the Tacos and they taste so fresh. Only thing I'd say is the Salsas' they have are a little lacking in the flavor punch department. And the main red salsa is a little salty. Other than that it reminds me of my childhood where the entire community got together and cooked for each other. Latin food is always my go to!! read more

I came here with high hopes from all of the great reviews. Taqueria La Poblana is hard to miss if you aren't looking for it. The exterior looks a bit rough but so does everything in the area. I'd recommend driving slow entering and exiting the parking lot due to an excess amount of potholes. Upon walking in, it is brightly colored, there are 3 booths, a few tables, and a TV blasting a Hispanic channel. We were promptly seated and greeted with chips and salsa to start. The chips and the salsa were two thumbs up! The salsa tasted fresh and it was chunky and delicious! When it came time to order our food I ordered the steak fajita nachos while my friend ordered 2 beef tacos, 2 chicken tamales, and a beef tostada. The tacos came out first, they didn't exactly scream "authentic," meaning it looked like store bought shells stuffed with ground beef and generic seasoning, but my friend said they tasted good. I had the pleasure of sneaking in a few bites of the tamales which proved to be delicious. He said that the tostada was truly the best part of his meal. My nachos came out last believe it or not. I was kind of disappointed with my nachos. The taste was good but I guess I wanted them to be so much more. I had like 3 strips of steak, a spoon full of sour cream, and a spoonful of store bought guac. Other then that my nachos were really over powered by the bell peppers. A plus side to Taqueria La Poblana is that they have a salsa cart next to the cash register full of all of the essentials. This place wasn't horrible and I'm currently in a food coma. I probably wouldn't recommend it to friends in the future and I probably won't be back. But I am not the end all be all and different people like different things! read more

EXCELLENT! My wife is Mexicana so we usually don't eat out for Mexican food. We just moved to Prattville from San Diego and I drive by this place on my way to work. This is AUTHENTIC MEXICAN food and we are so happy to have found this place. I ordered the chicken mole dish. The owner told me they ship the mole from Puebla, Mexico. My son ordered Menudo, which was excellent. my wife ordered the beef Sopes, they are hand made to order. They have a store next door and we bought tortillas and Mexican products that we miss having since we moved here. We will be coming here often to eat and shop!!!! read more

Listen, coming from California and trying EVERY possible "mexican" restaurant, this place is sensational. You will not find a more authentic and tasty place. The price is right and it's like walking into a piece of Mexico. The so pastor and carnitas street tacos were my favorite. But get the Papusa and Chili rellino too. The salsa bar is insane, and they make it all from scratch and not like all the other spots that use the jarred stuff. You won't be disappointed! read more

The outside of the building is very misleading. It looks like an old gas station but once you walk in its like you're transported to Mexico. The decor is very authentic and fun. They have a salsa bar that's amazing. The items I had were the American style beef soft taco, the guacamole, and the cheese dip. The taco was a huge proportion, the beef was sautéed and not too greasy, and the tortilla was lightly toasted keeping the taco from being soggy. The guacamole was very fresh and the perfect consistency. The cheese dip was thick and flavorful. The only thing that would've made it better would've been some jalapeños. There was also a large assortment of Mexican candies at the register. All in all this place was amazing and I will definitely be going there again. read more

This is the best and most authentic Mexican food we've found in Prattville. My wife had the carne asada, I had the fajitas mixtas and we shared some chorizo empanadas. Everything was amazing. Extremely slow and poor service. After about 30 min (an eternity in Mexican food land) I was served my food. My husband however needed to wait another 7 minutes before receiving his meal...then they forgot the tortillas and second plate for another 5 minutes. His beans and rice were cold by the time they showed up. Food was bland and unappetizing. I'm really curious how anyone would give this place 5 stars. Decor was shabby and run down. I'm convinced those who gave 5 stars here must work there or they're friends. This is the absolute worst restaurant in town, hands down. Food was bad, waitress couldn't understand English, our order was wrong, they didn't have diet sodas, there was a rubber band in our salsa, the TV was blasting (very loudly) the Spanish channel right above our heads the whole time (we asked them to turn it down and they did...but a few mins later turned it back up again!), and they charge for every single tiny little thing. We have eaten there twice now and both times the food was amazing. They were out of Queso & Chips this time and they were also out of the Red Lamb Soup my SO wanted, but he was very pleased with his second choice. This time I get the Seafood Soup and it was just amazing. I can't wait to take my coworker, who just moved here from Mexico, to eat there. Sure the place looks pretty rundown and the service is slow compared to other places, but the food is authentic and the staff is very polite.
