Side de Guacamole and Extra Corn Tortillas
Stephanie J.

Summary: the taste/price is prob unbeatable in SI So the taste and cost of the food here is a solid 5 STARS! And I have to give them their props for that. The best Mexican food in Staten Island! And their homemade tortilla chips are delicious and they give a hefty amount of fresh guacamole as a side order. Unfortunately, there are several things that caused me not to rate them as high as I wish. There are not enough vegetarian options, I always end up just getting the Tinga burrito but would love a savory meatless option. The guacamole side order doesn't come with chips, so you have to pay extra for a little box of chips... maybe that's a New York thing. And the service has only been great 2 out of the 10 times I've gone, there was a new guy recently who seemed to be quite hospitable. Would easily rate them 5/5 if service was consistently good with more vegetarian options.

Terrible customer service. Do not order from here. Terrible place. The food isnt consistent and the guy on the phone is as nasty as can be. Argueing with customers is not a good look. Luckily there are many more Mexican places nearby that have good food and good customer service. They just lost a customer that use to order all the time from here. Terrible terrible. The food isn't even that good ! I posted my original review on google , the owner responded , like I said from the beginning , argueing with customers is not a good look. Save your money and check out all the better Mexican spots.

As someone who has lived in California for the last decade, I am very picky about authentic Mexican food. This place is definitely like a Northern California Mexican restaurant. Free chips and salsa and lunch specials under 10 bucks all week long. Everything was fresh and delicious. They have a full bar as well which is always a perk. I highly recommend it

Steak Taco with Extra Onions and Cilantro
Marielle L.

I've tried several Mexican restaurants on the island and this is by far the best one in my opinion. I always get the steak tacos with extra onions and cilantro. The steak is super tender and perfectly seasoned, and they give you a hefty portion. Their guacamole is fresh, along with their Pico Di Gallo.

It was so good. Tasty, flavorful and authentic. We loved the carne asada enchilada, the chimichanga, and the tacos.

The customer service is trash, waiting over an hour for a delivery around the block is a joke. The food is trash..

Waited 2 hours for delivery. Waze said that I could drive there in 10 minutes. Just thought that I should share.

An Unforgettable Quesabirria Experience at Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine!…read more Finding truly exceptional Mexican food can sometimes feel like a quest, but my visit to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine delivered in a big way, specifically with their phenomenal Quesabirria. From the moment it arrived, I had a feeling it would be special, and I was not disappointed. The quesabirria itself was a masterpiece of flavor and texture. It was immediately clear that freshness was a priority here. The tortilla was perfectly crisped, providing a satisfying base for the generous filling inside. But the real star was the birria steak - it was incredibly tender, bursting with juice, and packed with a deep, savory taste that spoke of careful preparation and quality ingredients. Each bite was simply delicious. What truly elevated the dish, however, were the thoughtful details. The fresh cilantro wasn't just sprinkled on; it added a vibrant, aromatic quality and a necessary burst of freshness that cut through the richness of the meat and cheese beautifully, enhancing the overall taste profile significantly. And then there was the consumé. Oh, that consumé! Calling it 'out of this world' is almost an understatement. It was served steaming hot, a rich, dark broth brimming with complex flavors. It was savory, comforting, and utterly addictive. Seriously, it was so incredibly delicious and satisfying on its own that I could have happily just sipped it straight from the cup. Dipping the flavorful quesabirria into that liquid gold created a perfect harmony - a truly memorable culinary moment. It's been a little while since I had the chance to visit Maya's Cafe, but the memory of that meal has genuinely stayed with me. I find myself actively craving that specific combination of flavors and textures again. While I haven't managed to get back just yet, I am truly looking forward to my next visit, and you can bet I'll be ordering the quesabirria again. If you appreciate authentic Mexican cuisine made with care, or if you're on the hunt for truly outstanding quesabirria, I wholeheartedly recommend making a trip to Maya's Cafe Mexican Cuisine. It was a fantastic experience, driven by that incredibly tasty and well-executed dish. You won't regret it!

Taco shells were fresh corn Shells with I think grilled melted cheese. The chicken and beef in the tacos were seasoned well with fresh cilantro and lime wedges squeeze on it. Dipping the tacos in the birrea gravy was heaven! The flan was excellent, not overly sweet and delicious. And the fresh guacamole was also excellent with homemade chips, too. I'm so happy Westerleigh has a great Mexican restaurant nearby!

I have had lots of tacos in texas, La, manhattan, and queens so I am tough when it comes to tacos!…read more Overall: needs some seasoning, some more chips and just didnt give me that soft with a little bit of chew with the tortilla. The fries and chorizo nachos were the best for us! Food: 1$ off taco tuesday! Came with 7 people. Ordered an al pastor, beef taco, and empanada, chorizo nachos, steak nachos and fries. The table had a small portion of chips when we sat down that was probably a small cup size for the 7 people we had. - the tacos were on 6" corn tortillas and doubled which was nice but it just didnt have that salso or kick. I found myself adding salt and lotta hot sauce. The empanada was not hot but im not sure if its cause they were waiting to bring everything out for our table. I really liked the fries and the chorizo nachos more than anything! Service: the two girls were really so kind and helpful. Attentive and helped the party out a lot! Inside: nice cozy environment, bar is right there and theres two restrooms. Playing pop music with some tvs around. Had a group of 7 and was seated quickly on a Taco Tuesday!

Everything was made fresh and had great flavors . The serving size is perfect if you want to share or not it's not to much . The nachos have Mexican street corn on them my first time having nachos like this but it was delicious. Guacamole was fresh and very delicious. The location is definitely a hidden gem it's very clean and cozy BUT ITS VERY COLD I would have loved to stay and eat but it was just as cold inside as it was outside . The staff is very friendly and they literally will make anything any way you want. Price point is not expensive it's decently priced for the servings you get.

Nonetheless, today was the last time we're ordering from them. Thought it would be nice to order tacos first cinco de mayo. This is the crap I got. No topping no condiments no sauce cold dry cardboard like tortillas/meat. So much for happy tacos.

The experience was very pleasant, and service was quick (I paid and I had a few minutes to go across the street to the Mexican bakery to get two cream puffs for a $1 while they make my tacos) while they made my food. I stopped by at around 11am and the place was empty but there are plenty of seats available in the taqueria with lots of Mexican drinks options. The ambiance was quiet. I asked for two cacti tacos, also known as the Taco Azteca at this taqueria as recommended by the other Yelpers. I started with two because I heard that their tacos run big. These tacos were enormous and I was full eating after just one taco and saved the other one for an afternoon snack!! They also give you a generous cup of green sauce, which is one of my favorites! Because normally when getting a cactus taco in the other boroughs, they only give you a straight vegetarian taco only, but I was very surprised it came with a big chunk of meats. For $10-12 for two big giant tacos, I feel like I am getting fed very well. I'll definitely be back again to try their lamb/goat soup as recommended by the other Yelpers.
