New place in Lovettsville! This would be a three star if they weren't so new and having growing pains. 4 stars as I have confidence they'll get there. Maybe when they get their liquor license (which is soon!) Lunch specials! The chimichanga wasn't crispy. Which is too bad since the definition of a chimichanga is a deep fried burrito. I was also told it would be beef tips but it was ground beef. I politely pointed both things out and they immediately replaced it and were very apologetic. Chips could be better and heated. Salsa was good. Ask for spicy salsa if you like it hot! Everyone was very nice. The inside is very pretty! read more

Newish Mexican restaurant in the small town of Lovettsville. Very friendly wait staff. Very uncomfortable booth seats. They are kind of 3-D and when you lean back the uneven wood carving hits you. Very surprised no one thought of comfort for the diners. The chips were thick and salsa average. My sister and I had The Birria tacos and they were AMAZING. We also had enchiladas and they were delicious but not memorable. My daughter got a steak quesadilla and it was also very good. I would recommend. read more

I consider myself a foodie. This is the place!!! When I go to a Mexican restaurant, I always try the Chicken Chimichanga as a test. Then, if/when that passes the initial test, I try different items on the menu. I have continued to try everything else on the menu and I will keep coming back. The staff are so friendly and the chips and salsa are good enough already. It's clean, cheery, and very pleasant inside. I hope this place stays this good as long as I live - and longer! read more

Don't do it. I've had more authentic Mexican food from a cafeteria. Claim that the guacamole is freshly made each morning. This means they open a fresh bag of guac from Sysco's each morning. I ordered the Mole Poblano which came out looking like pulled chicken smothered in red BBQ sauce. The Mole sauce was room temperature and clearly from a jar. Save your money. read more

Great to see yet another restaurant open in our town! The decor is amazing. The chairs, booths and tables are all hand painted with amazing designs. They truly are a work of art. The service was great too- extremely friendly and welcoming. Side note- they don't have a liquor license yet but the signs say they are working on it. The food was quite good. The menu has all the usual fare you would expect, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, fajitas. The chips and salsa are addicting, and we definitely went through the second helping with ease. I had the chicken quesadilla with a side of the rice (or orange rice as my daughter likes to call it), and it was a good size meal with lots of flavor. Both kids also enjoyed their meals- the choice between rice, beans and fries is a great addition. Welcome to the town and we are all glad to have them here! read more

This was my second time at El Pitayo. It's a solid Mexican restaurant right in the new Lovettsville town square development. I really like the fun and festive ambiance, and the staff always addresses you with a friendly "amigo." The first time I visited, I got the Pollo Tapatío which was a tasty seared chicken breast with sautéed vegetables and salsa verde. Today I got the Mole Poblano, which was juicy shredded chicken with a rich and savory mole sauce (and a side of guacamole on a salad- delicious). My second time to this enjoyable restaurant. Too often when I go to a Mexican eatery, the menus are carbon copies of one down the street, so I'm always looking for a twist on the typical choices. This time I had the Arroz Noteno, a bed of rice with a flavorful mix of steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo sausage and Pico de Gallo and cheese drip on top. Served with a cheese quesadillia, it definitely hit the spot. Service as also excellent both times I've been there. The ONLY reason that I didn't give them a five is that on the very cold and windy evening I visited, the lack of a vestibule entryway caused a strong chill everything the door was opened for someone coming or going. read more

New restaurant in Lovettesville VA we thought we'd give a try. We arrived around 5:40pm, Friday evening, and not surprisingly had a wait. We were seated in 10-15 minutes. The room was full - the dining area is basically a big single room filled with tables and surrounded by booths along the walls. There are hanging lights as well as recessed ceiling lights, all ablaze. It would have felt cozier if they had dimmed lighting. There was background Mariachi style music but it was very low. They promptly brought chips and salsa as we were seated. After a few minutes a waiter came around and took our order. We started with a "bowl" of guacamole for our chips.. $7.. it was a tiny little dish. There was mayo or sour cream mixed with the avocado, as well as tomatoes and onions. It was okay, but for that price/portion I won't order it again if we go back. When he brought us water I regrettably took a large swig (cough cough) -it tasted chemical or plastic, like it had been stored in a new plastic tank for a few months or something. I couldn't do anymore, so I went against my no-pop rule and got a Sprite. Our food finally came out and I was surprised at the serving size. No, it was surprisingly small. Like what you might expect as a lunch portion. Full dinner price though. BUT...it was tasty. We both thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. As it turns out we were both too full for dessert so it must have been okay. (maybe because I had a lot of tortilla chips) We'll most likely try it again in the future to see if they work any kinks out. All in all we had a pleasant meal. read more

Went there for lunch and ordered the fajitas and carnitas lunch specials with a side of guacamole (not pictured but the carnitas came with guac). Reasonably priced (less than $15). I would say food was ok at 3.5/5...l felt guac wasn't as good and fajitas weren't really fajitas (would order carnitas again) but services was good. Overall would recommend. First off, they've done an amazing job decorating the place. Best decorated Mexican restaurant! Very nice. We thought it was delicious. We had queso which was really good! The fajitas were full of multi colored bell peppers The chicken and peppers were sliced very thin Lots of caramelization. Just three tortillas served with that pile of chicken and veggies but it was fine. We were sharing it and I loved just eating without the wrap anyway. I hear people complaining about the size of the portions give this place a chance who in God's name ever would've thought of a Mexican restaurant would open in Lovettsville Virginia 25 years ago. I don't think it's the size of the portions. I think it's a size of the people that go there Maybe they should consider Ozempic cutting down on their intake. The place was fine. Give it a chance patronize it it's Mexican food. What do you expect? It's beans it's rice. It's jalapeños you can enjoy it for what it is. Stop complaining you're not getting enough food. You're getting a normal portion-stop complaining you're not getting enough food. And I'm tired of hearing you referred to your children as kiddos. Our favorite new place! My husband doesn't even like Mexican food, but he requests El Pitayo at LEAST once a week for their El Trio meat platter. I'm there for the amazing margaritas and queso.
