Chicken and Rice. Sauce was a bit heavy

I feel like it would be more like 3.5 stars but since that it's not an option, I rounded up. Overall this is a pretty good Mexican Restaurant in Purcellville. We have been here a few times and always have a decent experience. The service is hey ally pretty good and the food always comes out fast. The chips and salsa are good. Which is a plus because some restaurants have salsa that is hit or miss. And the quest with chorizo is awesome! I enjoy a cup of it all to myself because some other family members aren't big fans of cheese... fine by me! At the most recent visit I got the chicken and rice... a version of which is a favorite of mine at any Mexican restaurant. Honestly, this one was not my favorite. The cheese they put on it was almost more of a sauce and the dish ended up feeling like a pasta dish. The chicken was also over cooked and tough. My husband got the Tacos Al Carbon and he really enjoyed them. And their rice is really good! They also have a pretty good kids menu selection which we like. But honestly, their beef tacos are just okay. Whatever they cook the beef in made the crunchy taco soggy after awhile. It's a good place to go if you don't want to drive too far and have a craving for Mexican Food. But don't go expecting it to knock your socks off.

Every, Friday. Night. There's a good chance you'll find me here. Birria tacos to die for, margaritas are so good. Service is wonderful. Family friendly ambiance makes this our go-to in town.

    My terrible 3 enchilada dinner.

Ordered the Enchiladas Trio over the phone and on their online menu it said the price was $14.99. When I went to pick it up, the guy at the front got my food and said the total before tax was $16.99. I told them the online menu said $14.99 and he said this was without lettuce and if I wanted lettuce then it was $2 more. I told him I did not see this on the menu and he talked with some other people at the front and said he would sell it to me for $14.99 and not charge me for the extra lettuce, (as if he was making a big concession not to charge me). I thought he was trying to overcharge me $2 and I when got home and looked at the menu and it said that lettuce was included in the Enchiladas Trio. Beware that when you go to pick up your odder, they may try to overcharge you. The food was very bac and included a photo of my dinner plus the small shreds of lettuce they tried to charge me $2 for. Will never order from this place again.

Woke up wanting Mexican good because I'm pregnant & that's how it goes ‍ I love their salsa & chips. Exactly what I wanted. I got the taco salad with chicken. My husband got the lunch fajitas. Peppers & onions were seasoned and cooked just right. Both dishes were great! I think this will be our new "go-to" spot.

Found this place using GetUpside and it's pretty nice inside. Nice ambiance. Full of happy white diners. I enjoyed my margarita! However the margarita was almost TEN DOLLARS!!!!! Actually comes in a large margarita unlike some places. Waiter was nice and attentive. I got the enchiladas and taco. They were good the chicken enchilada was a bit tough though. I guess the chicken was dry. Get the beef one instead. The taco is on a hard shell. I kinda like soft shells better. Overall a good experience! The margarita is expensive and it was a basic one not top shelf.

Taqueria Guadalajara has a bit of a tucked away location just on the outskirts of Winchester,…read morewhich gives it that standalone, local spot feel. While having its own building is a plus, parking can quickly become a headache during busy hours, so timing your visit makes a difference. Walking in, there wasn't a host present, which made the entrance feel a little unorganized at first. However, a server quickly stepped in and pointed us in the right direction. From there, the experience improved the service was genuinely friendly and attentive, which helped set a positive tone for the meal. The burrito was the highlight. It came out well prepared with solid flavor throughout, even though it didn't include any sides. Normally, that might feel like something is missing, but the taste was good enough to carry the dish on its own. Pricing leans a bit on the higher side, which is something to keep in mind, especially given the lack of extras. Overall, Taqueria Guadalajara delivers where it matters most good flavor and friendly service even if it has a few logistical hiccups like parking and the initial lack of greeting. It's the kind of place that leaves you debating between a 4 and a 5, but the quality of the food ultimately pushes it into 5-star territory

Salsa continues to be delicious (albeit punishing the next day), and of my three tacos, carnitas was the only one to write home about. Pescado was fishy (not in the good way), and the al pastor was, again, just okay. Pointed out my chipped water glass to the server, who was apologetic and promptly replaced it. Best tacos in the area continue to be Los Altos de Jalisco in Winchester. I said what I said.

I rate restaurants within their category and concept. I am not comparing a neighborhood Mexican…read morerestaurant to a Michelin star fine dining experience. If a place delivers quality food, represents its cuisine well, and exceeds expectations for its setting, that earns a high rating from me. We recently visited Casa De Avila in Leesburg, and I have to start with the horchata because it was truly the star of the meal. I am of Mexican heritage, my mom is Mexican, and I grew up drinking homemade horchata. This one tasted just like it should. It was creamy, clearly made with milk and condensed milk, with that soft sweetness and a gentle hint of cinnamon. It honestly tasted homemade, and that alone made me smile. Now, it is hard for me personally to give most Mexican restaurants 5 stars, and that has more to do with my background than the restaurant itself. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and grew up eating incredible home cooking from my mom, who is an amazing cook. That naturally shapes my expectations. In the DMV area, it has been tough to find truly authentic Mexican flavors. With the exception of La Jarochita, and Mancha Cocina Mexicana, which is more elevated but very well done, good Mexican food can be hard to come by here. All that said, Casa De Avila serves very good food and is probably the best I have found in this category locally. The sopes were made fresh, which makes a huge difference in both flavor and texture. The tacos were solid overall. The asada was very good, well seasoned and flavorful. The al pastor was good, but it did not quite have that deep, traditional flavor you get from proper trompo style preparation. The esquites were also tasty, and the kids loved that they added hot Cheetos. That is a trend we saw in Los Angeles years ago, so it felt fun and nostalgic to see it here. If I could offer one suggestion, it would be about the salsa. The salsa served tasted more like a bottled style Mexican salsa. I would love to see a true house made salsa roja or salsa verde, the kind where you char the tomatoes, tomatillos, chiles, and onions before blending. That deep roasted flavor is such a big part of authentic Mexican cooking and would elevate the whole experience even more. The service was amazing from start to finish. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, and the staff really helped make the experience even better. Overall, Casa De Avila is doing a lot right. The food is flavorful, the horchata is exceptional, and it stands out in an area where good Mexican food is not easy to find. While my personal background makes me a tough critic, this is still a place I would happily return to. A solid 4 stars.
