I went through the drive thru yesterday on 6/5/26. I ordered a chicken bowl with no beans (I have an allergy) this is the 3rd time they have put beans in it. The only difference is the 1st 2 times I had ordered it inside and they were very polite about it and remade it for me, with a smile! No attitude whatsoever. However, yesterday when I got to my destination, I saw beans in my chicken bowl. I called the Menifee location and a young girl answered. She was apologetic and said come in any day and just say "Robert said to come in and have it remade at no charge" I thanked her and we hung up. Today I go in to the same location, Menifee on Haun rd, and I told the lady everything and she treated me terribly. She acted like I was lying and said "Well Robert hasn't been here in a while" so I again told her it wasn't Robert I spoke with it was a young lady who told me to say Robert approved it. She also said that only the .manager answers the phones there and she did not get my call yesterday so apparently she is the manager. The receipt says Latrese so im guessing thats her name. Anyways, I told her, look, im not making this up, why would I make this up? I offered to show her on my phone that I called that location yesterday around lunch time just to prove it to her. But she rolled her eyes, her body language was as if I was an inconvenience and her attitude was as if im a liar and shes giving me something for free. I paid for it yesterday and couldn't eat it cause it was made wrong!!!! She had me print my name and put my phone number down on the receipt and thats fine. What isn't fine is to treat me that way and imply im a liar. Then when my food was ready she opened my chicken bowl and showed me and very rudely said, "see, no beans do you see that? This location is really going downhill fast. It's unfortunate. This is the third time I've been to this location in the 2 months where they goofed up my order. The food quality tastes OK, but probably not as good as other locations. I ordered two double chicken tostadas and got three bags of chips and some weird stuff that stinks . My fault for not checking the order before I left. When I brought back the mistaken order there was a man loudly pounding on some product near the front on some and I could barely hear myself talk, and I don't think the afternoon manager could hear me well either. The worker should've been doing that in the back room. The manager and staff replaced my order half heartedly with a half hearted apology. No offer was made for a coupon or extra food or anything. A big pet peeve is asking for sauce for your order - several tacos and they hand you 1 -seriously -shall we all share it , omg! I placed an order via the El Pollo Loco app for 2 carnitas tostadas for pick up. The app works great, just like any other fast food they have points and reward systems, and you can place your order for a specific day/time. The app itself is very user friendly and didn't pose any issue for me. When we went to get to food at the location, the tostadas each came with a green dressing with it, and a fork. That's all, there are no other salsas given. And if you see my previous review, they threw it some chips and salsa, we didn't get that this time. When we asked for extra green dressings for the salad, they charged $0.50 each, so with tax it was additional $1.09. They should really add additional dressings and salsas on the app for pick up. This would add so much consistency each time you order. The place had plenty of parking and there wasn't too many patrons inside. We picked up the food and took it home. The carnitas goes really well with the salad. It was good. The problem is that I do need the extra dressings because 1 is just not enough to enjoy the salad. When you get up to the window the gentleman working has a horrible attitude. Written all over his face that he's annoyed, then I order 3 meals and had to ask for salsa since I wasn't offered any. I would like to formally complain about a rude interaction my mom had at this location on Jan 30th. She had asked the cashier Isaac for guacamole to which he responded to, "We're in America speak English and it's salsa verde." Which I think is completely ironic considering this is a Mexican inspired restaurant and you're literally saying salsa verde? There was multiple reviews and complaints left about this incident on google reviews which were all removed for some reason ? As we walked in, a lady from the back yelled out that we could use the touch screen to place our order. My husband responded that he had modifications and it would be easier if someone could take our order directly. She seemed annoyed but did take our order. While waiting for our food, I noticed a staff member eating his lunch nearby. He was licking his fingers while eating, which is fine in a personal setting, but to my shock, he went straight into the kitchen afterward and started handling food without washing his hands. I went to El Pollo Loco on April 11, 2026. I had just purchased two gift cards totaling $50, and I was given a bonus $15 gift card. I printed out the bonus gift card, as instructed and went to the Menifee location. Three employees at the window and the manager (by phone) was not able to redeem my bonus gift card for me. I sat at the drive thru window for more than 20 minutes as the line grew behind me. I was more concerned about the line than they were. I ended up paying for my order with a credit card and to top it off my order was wrong. I have written in to voice my complaint twice, once to the customer feedback and the second time to headquarters. I have also called three times, once on 4-14 and a second time on 4-20 and a third time on 4-27. I am asking for a refund for the purchase of my original $50 purchase, as I am not at all confident that said gift card will work, since the $15 bonus gift card failed. On all three calls I made to El Pollo Loco, I was told I would receive a call or email back from them. None of my calls or written correspondence have been acknowledged or addressed. We recently came here to try their new Birria entrées. Well El Pollo's doesn't need to worry about making Yelp's Best Birria Tacos list (see below). Their key mistake was not soaking the meat in the consommé, thus making it tough and dry. This is pretty surprising since their TV Ads show the meat soaking in consommé. D'oh! Their employees' attention to detail is also, um lacking. That's what makes this a Two Star Review, instead of a Three Star one. We had four errors in our order. Two we caught at the Drive-Thru Window. Two at home. Grrr. But the name of the place is still el Pollo Loco, and their chicken is still very, very good. I'm not normally a negative review writer, but this PSA needs to be made. I have given this locations so many chances, but they just continue to disappoint. It doesn't matter what day of the week, what time of day, or what you order - they are awful. DO NOT GO TO THE EL POLLO LOCO ON HAUN RD IN MENIFEE. If I could leave a negative star review, I would. The staff at this location is incompetent. There's just no other way to say it. Don't bother to ask for a salad with no rice, because they will hear "add triple rice". Do not assume logic will be used by the staff. They literally don't think. If you order a salad in the drive through, you must ask for a fork because it's not logical to any of them that you might need one to eat the salad. I can understand not automatically adding a fork if you order a burrito, a quesadilla or tacos, but a salad??? Do they think you're going to eat it with your hands? In general, they are lazy and sloppy and do the bare minimum. The containers and wrappers are covered in food/grease/cheese/salsa/whatever, so when you take the food out of the to-go bag, surprise! You get your hands and clothes dirty. Make sure you have your own napkins because they won't give you a napkin unless you ask for it, even though they know very well the wrappers/containers are dirty on the outside. The food is just thrown in the bag and however it lands is how it's given to you, even if the salad is upside down and the wrappers are half open, or the tacos are under the heavier items getting smashed. Why bother to put the salsas and dressings in a separate little bag if you're not going to close it to prevent leaks? Don't bother asking to speak to the manager because he has ZERO customer service training and is equally incompetent. Instead of listening to the customer, he argues and walks away yelling. It's no wonder they have a 2 star rating, they don't even deserve that! I've tried to give this location chance after chance rationalizing that they are busy, or it's new staff, or they are understaffed, etc. But no, I've come to realize it's just them. No other El Pollo Loco location is like this. They are terrible and have the worst customer service I've ever experienced, and that's just the drive-thru. I won't even bother touching on the inside of the restaurant. If at least the quality of the food was decent and they gave normal portion sizes, it would be easier to deal with the BS experience they provide, but not even the food is good at this location. You would think that all locations would be the same since they should be using the same recipes and portion sizes. But no, because it comes down to the one difference each location has - the STAFF. The staff at this location literally gives zero Fs about you, about how they package the food, about basic manners and consideration, about doing their job well, about anything. They aren't even nice. No hello, no thank you, no nothing. They simply don't care, and it shows. Save yourself the aggravation and go to a different location.
