I'm not normally a negative review writer, but this PSA needs to be made. I have given this locations so many chances, but they just continue to disappoint. It doesn't matter what day of the week, what time of day, or what you order - they are awful. DO NOT GO TO THE EL POLLO LOCO ON HAUN RD IN MENIFEE. If I could leave a negative star review, I would. The staff at this location is incompetent. There's just no other way to say it. Don't bother to ask for a salad with no rice, because they will hear "add triple rice". Do not assume logic will be used by the staff. They literally don't think. If you order a salad in the drive through, you must ask for a fork because it's not logical to any of them that you might need one to eat the salad. I can understand not automatically adding a fork if you order a burrito, a quesadilla or tacos, but a salad??? Do they think you're going to eat it with your hands? In general, they are lazy and sloppy and do the bare minimum. The containers and wrappers are covered in food/grease/cheese/salsa/whatever, so when you take the food out of the to-go bag, surprise! You get your hands and clothes dirty. Make sure you have your own napkins because they won't give you a napkin unless you ask for it, even though they know very well the wrappers/containers are dirty on the outside. The food is just thrown in the bag and however it lands is how it's given to you, even if the salad is upside down and the wrappers are half open, or the tacos are under the heavier items getting smashed. Why bother to put the salsas and dressings in a separate little bag if you're not going to close it to prevent leaks? Don't bother asking to speak to the manager because he has ZERO customer service training and is equally incompetent. Instead of listening to the customer, he argues and walks away yelling. It's no wonder they have a 2 star rating, they don't even deserve that! I've tried to give this location chance after chance rationalizing that they are busy, or it's new staff, or they are understaffed, etc. But no, I've come to realize it's just them. No other El Pollo Loco location is like this. They are terrible and have the worst customer service I've ever experienced, and that's just the drive-thru. I won't even bother touching on the inside of the restaurant. If at least the quality of the food was decent and they gave normal portion sizes, it would be easier to deal with the BS experience they provide, but not even the food is good at this location. You would think that all locations would be the same since they should be using the same recipes and portion sizes. But no, because it comes down to the one difference each location has - the STAFF. The staff at this location literally gives zero Fs about you, about how they package the food, about basic manners and consideration, about doing their job well, about anything. They aren't even nice. No hello, no thank you, no nothing. They simply don't care, and it shows. Save yourself the aggravation and go to a different location. I really hope the owner of this location and the EPL corporate office sees this review and starts asking questions. You don't get 1 and 2 star reviews for no reason. read more

I wish I could say the chicken was Crazy good, but it was just ok They should call the place el Pollo Chico (The chickens are small) and the half chick I ordered was Seco como un hueso (dry). After seeing the grill so full with dozens and dozens of roasting chicken, I thought how could I go wrong, but when I'm the only customer in a half hour it makes me think? who is going to eat those, and when? Its a menu that looks great on paper but I went healthy with a side salad, very dry, and Riced Cauliflower with cilantro that was bland with the half a chicken. There are lots of sides to choose from but most are high carb with my choses being the healthiest, The Big Menu has some tostadas, tacos, burritos, bowls and more. The Pico de Gallo is insípido (tasteless) and the Hot was muy muy caliente with the green avocado being the best sauce for my taste. I think there was another one but it took some prodding to get the three I got. Something was lost in translation. Lots of $5 options and family deals as well, service was ok and the place was very clean. This place has the worst customer service I've ever encountered! They put a new kiosik machine in and now won't take your order at the register anymore. I was having trouble reediming an offer off the app so I asked one of the employees if she would just take my order. In a very condescending tone she let me know that she would just teach me how to do it since she can't always take orders. They had like 6 employees at the time I went on some leaning against the counters and just walking around aimlessly. Not sure why it's so difficult to just take an order at the register. Late review.. My experience happened a month or so, ago. I'm a vegetarian, but I love the double chicken tostada bowl, so I always ask for the chicken "on the side", so I can give it to my husband. The lady taking our order repeats everything, correctly.. so, we get our food & before leaving the parking lot, I do a quick check that everything is there. I see my tostada bowl has all the chicken in it. So we get out & go inside to get a new bowl. The staff were fine with doing it, but seemed genuinely dumbfounded that anyone would ever consider asking for "chicken on the side". It was the strangest low key reaction I've ever received. This person could not fathom in a million years, the request of "chicken on the side". Plus, there was so much sour cream.. it was like a big "f*** you". I just scooped it out & we had enough sour cream to go around. Needless to say, I love the tostada bowl, but haven't been back to this location because I don't want to confuse people with my "crazy" request. We had stopped going here because their chicken was always dry and over-cooked with a generally dirty dining room. However, about a month ago we stopped again because we heard they returned to their chicken tacos. That is what we had. We were SO delighted. They were delicious!!! Super good. Next time in, hubby wanted to try their carnitas tacos: Excellent!!! So we've been back several times in love with this yummy tacos. BUT TODAY - we were really hungry and wanted a dinner. We ordered a 4 piece in thighs. First, they messed up the order. Then we begin to dig in and the chicken, as before, was DRY dry DRY. Overdone and awful. The skin was burnt and ultra chewy. Because we were HUNGRY hubby ate most of his. I peeled off anything that looked like meat and had that - it wasn't much. The rest I threw in a bag to bring home to our dogs. We will NEVER NEVER NEVER order chicken dinners there again. TELL ME WHY is their chicken taco and carnitas taco SO GOOD? when the same chickens are cooked in the same place by the same people. Why tacos GOOD and the dinner so BAD? The same restaurant in Costa Mesa KNOWS how to cook their chicken. It was excellent there. Why not here in our own home town? Even the guy that was waiting for his order was like she's got an attitude and I asked him I was like you know I thought I was just being sensitive or something he's like no if she is definitely throwing attitude about it. She heard him say that and loosen up a little bit but at the end she's like I'm going to keep your receipt. I was like OK. Even though I had other purchases on there so that made me feel a little uncomfortable it's like maybe they knew they were giving me some old food and there could've been an issue with getting sick? I don't know! But she just said it was like really bad attitude and I was like OK well can I have a confirmation you know usually they give you a little receipt back or something and nothing at all. So now I have to check and see if she's actually going to do the refund or if she took my receipt and made it just look like she was doing one? I don't think it's that deep but I don't know the whole interaction was just really off and super uncomfortable Looking at the reviews it doesn't seem like the place is that great but I really hope that they kick it up. It's a really busy location. Some of the other employees are nice. It was really nice when they had the other tacos and some of the kids that work there are super sweet. So it's just not fair with whatever dynamic is happening there and it needs to be addressed. Hopefully it will improve! I went to El Pollo Loco today to by a double Chicken salad and a double Shrimp salad. I ordered both salads thru the drive up service. I had just gotten their advertisement on the salads and other items. After getting home and took the salads from their bag. The first thing I noticed was there NO shrimp in either salad. My salad had lettuce and sunflower seeds and whit cheese in it. My wife's salad did have chicken in it. Both salads had avocado in them. The avocado was brown and looked old. The salads did not look anything like the salads in the advertisement. I did not go back as I do not live that close to El Pollo Loco. And I never go back as I feel we got ripped off. read more

2 stars has to go to the service. The food is just as good as any other location. I ordered ahead, through the app. My husband ended up going inside to get the order. They did not have cauliflower rice so he asked for fries. The cashier responded "we don't have fries. What else you want?" He asked for pico de Gallo and the cilantro sauce. He was told it was already included, but avocado sauce was given, not cilantro. They were very skimpy on the condiments, given we ordered a family meal. He did not receive the creamy cilantro sauce. I would rather go to the father location (in Perris) than this one again. At least I know the service will be better and they will not skimp on the sauce or condiments. read more

Oh, my dear crazy chicken, how crazy was I for thinking that you'd *actually* get my order correct. It seems like every trip we make here, we think we'll get what we ordered. I understand things are crazy because of Covid, but, at this point I don't think their inability to put an order together correctly can be blamed on Covid. Once again, I ordered a salad. If you look at the picture, you might see a quarter sized dollop of dressing. I don't know why but the past three times we've been deprived of dressing. Maybe, El Pollo Loco is trying to tell me I need to cut back on empty calories, but I don't think that they should be butting into my dietary habits. For some reason, asking for pico de gallo defaults to house salsa. Every. Damn. Time. They are clearly two different types of salsa, I don't know why they can't provide the right salsa. Asking for diced onions and receiving them is two different things. As someone who worked in the fast food industry, I am cognizant of what is required for customer service. I was craving birria and I remembered when I had the tacos from here last year. I loved the tacos but not so much a fan of the consumè that it typically came with. Then the last time I came, it wasn't in promotion so I was sad. But when I saw that they got it back, I am happy. Not really a chicken fan, so I'm glad they have this option. The lady at the window was rude and curt didn't get our order right and then was sassy when we asked to have it fixed.
