Really easy to order on their website and pickup, they recommend you order an hour prior so that it's hot and ready for when you get it. This is my first time trying African food and I'm so pleasantly surprised. We got the egusi stew and the okra soup, both came with 2 portions of fufu which was a perfect amount. I really have nothing else to compare it to but all I know is everything was delicious. My favorite was the okra soup, some may be turned off by the sliminess but I actually have never minded it. Once i took the order on her website, it took an hour for the food to be ready for pick up. So if you need by a specific time, order ahead. I wasn't able to order online until her store officially opened, which opens at 12pm. So if you want to eat it for lunch, it might be difficult to eat on time. I'm sure you can order the day before and plan with her. The owner was very sweet and very communicative. She also texts if you'd rather not speak on the phone. I ordered almost everything on the menu. Warning to spice sensitive people, all the dishes were spicy. Probably medium level. All the meat in the dishes wasn't super tender. But after trying 3 different places, i don't think the meat is meant to be tender. Because they've all been the same so far in texture. Here are my thoughts on each items i ordered: Egusi soup: this is my 3rd time trying egusi from 3 different places. This is one of the better ones I've tried. The first one I ever tried was so fishy and strong. This one not so bad, and it's flavorful. Eru: i don't know if it's the leaves or the dried little seafood in the dish, but something was a little sharp or pointy in my mouth, and i made sure to chew carefully. I enjoyed it tho, it had a good flavor. The baked fish and plantains: it's basically baked fish with a spicy sauce. Simple and yummy. I recommend her to anyone wanting to try African food, or aka the infamous viral egusi and fufu. Let her know if you can't tolerate spicy, maybe she can make it with no spice. Okra soup: great flavor but you have to love okra because remember it has a slimy texture. Fufu versus Garri: my family and i already love fufu. We wanted to try the Garri. The Garri is a little grainy and not as soft and smooth as fufu. So we love fufu more. But I'm glad we got to try Garri. I wanted to try the puff puff but only wanted half the order. But she wasn't able to charge me for half so maybe next time. She's located at a home deep in Menifee. My husband had no issues finding her house. read more

Love Tonge's Taste! This place is so good and the lady that makes the food is very kind. I typically place the order online a day ahead and arrange for a time to pick it up the following day. That fufu and egusi soup was honestly so good. The egusi soup was rich, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The cow tongue in it was extremely tender and surprisingly tasty. Every bite had so much flavor, and the meat was cooked perfectly. The fufu was smooth and went really well with the soup, making the whole meal come together. I really enjoyed how comforting and satisfying it was. You could tell it was made with care, and it definitely left a great impression. I'd happily eat that again anytime. read more

Thank God she moved closer to me now. I used to drive an hour to Eastvale to pickup the food. I've tried okra and egusi and I loved them both. Okra is not for everyone though cuz it had the super slimey texture. Her fufu is always on point, cooked to perfection. I've tried egusi from a place in LA that is very famous but i didnt like it. I've tried hers and it was amazing. One of the best egusi i have ever had. Very clean packaging. Portion is good for 2 people in my opinion. Very reasonable price judging the current economy. Definitely will be coming here often. Highly recommended. read more

Didn't get good pictures cuz we were trying to eat in the car down the street in the Starbucks parking lot after picking up our order. Everything was so delicious! Like....literally. I will definitely be back to try some of her other items. The fufu melted in your mouth. Combining it with the egusi was out of this world. The Egusi was rich, full of flavor, like I can't even explain. This was my first time trying W. African food and I don't know why it's taken me so long. The puff puff was very delicious as well. They were hot and fresh to order. About 10-15 pieces included in one order. Had a very slight sweetness to it, but she did tell me that she doesn't add sugar. Not sure if she meant on the top, or in the batter. It reminded me of a little donut. Sorry I didn't get a photo of this. Sometimes she is out of certain items, so it's best to call and ask. Very friendly lady, she let me know when to start driving to pick up the order, since I was about 35 min away. When I got there she had my food packaged and ready to go. She even gave us a few eating tips. Lastly, I'm not a big meat eater, so next time I will see if she can make the Egusi without the beef. I've also wanted to try West African food so I'm very glad I got to try it. The lady who makes the food is very nice. Food was still hot when we finished our hour drive back home! - Cameroon fried rice & chicken (4/5): the fried rice is made with coconut and butter (I believe). It was very rich, flavorful, and creamy compared to the fried rice I'm used to. The chicken was a but flavorless but texture was good and not rubbery. - Pepper Soup Goat Meat (2/5): the flavor was really rich and spicy, but the meat itself was on the tougher side. It was hard to eat at times. - Egusi (5/5): I really enjoyed this dish with fufu. I think the flavor was out of this world for me. I would have enjoyed it as a vegetarian dish without the meat itself. The meat, like the pepper soup goat meat, was also on the tougher side. - Eru (3/5): the dish was smoky and there were plenty of spinach. You are pulling up to a house, so be mindful of that. I give 3 stars for the food as it tastes delicious but unfortunately I won't be back. We ordered Egusi soup, Eru, and gizzards. My partner comes back to the car with the food and remarks about how heavy the food is and the portion sizes must be so big and filling. Well, we get home and what do you know, there are BIG HEAVY BONES in the bottom of both the Egusi and Eru. Makes sense why they're so heavy now. The oxtails in the Egusi were bones and fat, I am not exaggerating. & we didn't get our plantains with the gizzards! Was really disappointed to get home (a 40 minute drive by the way) to discover this. Wanted to like this place so much, with all the positive reviews. Maybe I caught them on an off day? Who knows? Yes it is pickup from her home only. IT SAYS IN THE DESCRIPTION PICKUP ONLY and has always been!!! I have tried many egusi made in SoCal and no one's beats Tonges! It is a good portion and me and my partner always share one tray and buy an extra for our lunch the next day. She goes heavy on seasonings and palm oil (I drain some out due to my high blood pressure). The meat does vary by what's available, sometimes pieces are more chewy and boney and other days super tender brisket like texture. read more

Yummmmmmy Cameroonian food and at a great price. The eru is prepared perfectly - and if you're new trying Cameroonian food you'll not be too overwhelmed with the unique flavors. The pounded yam is perfect and super delicious. There is enough eru and pounded yams for two people or two meals. Also got the fish and plantains - the veges on top are insanely delicious, the hot sauce is excellent (not too spicy), and the plantains are fried perfectly. The fish was moist and super delicious. As why is my first time having fufu and egusi soup. I'm so glad that I was able to find something semi-locally because I really didn't want to drive all the way to LA to try it. I ordered online and it said that it would be ready in an hour but I got a phone call after 40 minutes of placing my order. The food was pretty hot when I got it but I still had a 20 minute drive home. Once I got home the food was still pretty hot. Initially I thought that it was a vegetarian type of dish but to my surprise there was meat at the bottom. Everything together was just so good and so flavorful. It tasted kind of smokey to me. I definitely want to try the other dishes when I get a chance. read more

Wow I have no words on how delicious this food was!! The fufu and egusi were so filling and flavorful! It was my first time ordering and trying African cuisine. Very easy to order and I love that the menu items have a picture the service was excellent! Very friendly lady food was very nice and hot when I picked up! My husband loved it we got the jollof rice w chicken and Egusi soup i also added some dodo which are the friend plantains they went perfect with the jollof rice! OKAYYYYY, so I ordered the egusi and fufu, let me just say that it was AMAZINGGGG, so much flavor. I loved it, left me wanting more. I will have to say this, don't be surprised by how long you have to wait to pick-up after ordering -- but have in mind that it's not fast food, they're making this FRESH-FRESH. I waited about an hour and thirty mins after placing the order to get the food, but I didn't mind it- I went with a friend and we just chilled and talked outside in the car while we waited to get called. I do wish we got a little more for what we paid for, but you know what? It's okay, where else can you get delicious Nigerian food here in the states, no where really. So it's fine. Established in 2020.

I wanted to share with the world how delicious African food tastes. My husband always calls my food Tonge's Taste because of how delicious it tastes. So when i decided to start, i named the home restaurant just like my husband calls it. This idea started right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, and home cooked meals are always the best. Hence, we make our food fresh on every order.

Meet the Business Owner: Christina E.

Tonge is my middle name, hence the name " Tonge's Taste", but i go by Christina Ebako. I was born in a Central African country called Cameroon, and most of the food on our menu is Cameroonian delicacies. I also have a Bachelors degree in business administration, and i am a certified food manager by the State of California. Cooking, singing, and praising God are my hubbies, and i enjoy doing this on a daily basis.

I love African food and compared to my favorite spot in San Diego, this one is not on my list to revisit, unfortunately. Not for the price or quality.

None stood out to me but I will say all were flavorful, healthy and a delight to eat. The beef and chicken were dry in my opinion but the sauce helped. I'm glad I tried this place and it was an enjoyable enough experience. For the price of the food, I would expect better hospitality - typically, restaurants of this caliber would explain the wait ahead of time or in the moment, and even provide free bread or something. The flavors and seasonings used in the veggie dishes and beef had a nice balance and went exceptionally well together. The injera bread was fluffy and had a good mouthfeel, with enough bounce and texture to pick up and hold the delicious food and sauces together into the perfect bite-sized morsels. Injera bread was so good that I would eat this plain. As a sourdough flatbread, their injera was not overly sour nor dry. We also finished 2 bottles of Ethiopian honey wine, which was less sweet than I expected and closer in profile to a light Chardonnay, than a sweet wine. Wine was a perfect pairing for the food. As far as beverages go, they have a small selection of beer and wine in the menu, along with Ethiopian coffee/tea which is freshly brewed to order. They also have a nice traditional coffee/tea setting in one corner of the restaurant and I was told they provide a special freshly brewed coffee service on weekends. Definitely a top recommendation from me, for authentic Ethiopian and Eritrean food. My friend informed me that this restaurant is a labor of love/care from the owner, who had a very successful engineering career before he opened this restaurant, which was a dream of his to share the foods he grew up with to the local Ethiopian and Eritrean community. Even more reason to love and support this restaurant! We went on a weeknight for early dinner and it wasn't crowded. Plenty of parking as they're located in a small shopping plaza.
