I got the red snapper fried fish and shrimp platter with Mac and cheese and fried zucchini and husband added a small side of shrimp & grits and small side of gumbo. The portions were great! We paid $77 with tip. So the shrimp was juicy and thick and I didn't even order the jumbo ones! Fish was fresh and juicy-perfectly fried in a corn meal batter. Tartar sauce was flavorful and hot sauce was good but not hot lol. My fried zucchini was PERFECTLY fried and tender. The gumbo was spicy and flavorful but my favorite was the shrimp and grits. (Mix it together) because all the sauce and goodies are sitting on top. Almost forgot we ordered dessert to go... strawberry cheesecake and a heath caramel cheesecake. ($14 all together) Haven't tried yet but look Devine. Con: Mac & Cheese was straight trash in my opinion because there was no sign of cheese or cheese flavor anywhere and I'm a cheese girl. We were really disappointed with our recent visit to Fishbone in Menifee. We ordered the fish and shrimp dinner, and unfortunately neither tasted freshly fried. The shrimp and fish both tasted old, and the fish had a very unpleasant consistency. We also ordered the red beans and rice, which was another letdown. The rice was undercooked and crunchy, while the beans were extremely salty. For the price, it was frustrating to end up throwing most of the food away. What makes this even more disappointing is that we've been here before and had a great experience, so we know they can do better. Sadly, after this visit, we will not be returning. read more

Place clean and nicely decorated. Service is good friendly. Got some togo. Fish shrimp oyster combo with side of coleslaw and collard greens. Added $4 for jumbo shrimp. And everything tasted soo good the outer breading or coating nice and crispy and seasoned well. Moist, juicy yummy inside. I have pictures of outside and inside. The coleslaw crisp and good but the collard greens kinda plain in flavor but it tasted just right really tasted good specially when you eat it with the fried food. First time coming here. Service was great. The food was good, I wish I would have said to cook the catfish a little longer as it just had a slight gooey texture inside. Entered this restaurant around 2:00 pm for a late lunch. I ordered the gumbo, fried okra and hush puppies. The gumbo was decent and the okra was also good, but the hush puppies were too sweet for me. They make everything fresh so expect to wait about 15 to 20 minutes. They had music playing that was hip hop and the chairs were pretty comfortable. Food. This fish isn't always really fresh. Also, I ordered 1 pound of Fried Red Snapper. I got three different kinds of fish in that order. 1piece was obviously Cod..the unmistakable texture gave a clear indication. I've lived in Menifee for 25 years, and am so happy there is finally some culture and great soul food in this town! This place is amazing! We had the filet of sole, fried shrimp, corn bread, red beans and rice, gumbo, which all were so fresh and amazing flavor! Great atmosphere. The food did take a while to prepare which tells me it's fresh and made to order. The manager Miss Ann is a very nice lady and knows the business. I tried this place a few months after they first opened & thought everything was too salty. I'm glad I gave them a second chance cause I haven't had any more complaints! I ordered Fishbone a few more times and felt compared to share another update. Initially, I wasn't a big fan of the mac n cheese. It wasn't much on my first handful of orders. One day while in the area, I managed to get there and order right as the doors opened. I ordered the Mac to see how the first batch of the day was=and it didn't disappoint. However, that was still the first out of many experiences there so I didn't wanna share was a rare situation for me. Well, today which is a Sunday, near closing, I decided to order it as a side again to go with my fish and I'm hoping this is their new standard because it was absolutely amazing. So we went to this place in Menifee, California, and as soon as she walked in, there was no greeting. It didn't smell like any soul food, didn't even smell like fish, and it smelled like anything, and you know anytime you're going to soul food places, especially fish. You will smell something, and no matter how much you try to get the smell out. You still smell it, but the service was horrible. We ordered, and the price was ridiculous. They gave us the two fish we ordered, which were so small they seemed to have been fried over. I also ordered grits and shrimp. It was so oily no seasoned to it. The grits weren't even really cooked all the way through, and the fish. I'm sorry, I'm back to the fish. The little piece that they give you is ridiculous. I watched one of the African-American girls, a tall skinny one, cooking cause their doors were open. She spat something, and she was stirring whatever she was stirring. She took the dish towel and wiped it off where it had spilled, then wiped the spoon with it, and put it back in the food. I watched her do it, and I said, "Whoa." It was not a white girl who was working. She noticed I was staring back there, so she had a black girl go to the other part of the kitchen and start cleaning--no granite on a Sunday. There were only two people in the back, and the white girl was at the front taking an order. But as I said, customer service was horrible. In a fish, the little pieces. They could at least give you four pieces when they're that small. Now, the one in Ontario, which is closed, was the best place to see the fish they have out. I've seen this place for a few years but didn't know what it actually was, and when I learned it was a fish fry place I was eager to give them a try because I love this kind of food, and usually only get it when I happen to be in Hemet and passing by The Fish Hut. Sadly, my first time dining here couldn't have gone much worse. If it had been good, I'd be eating here regularly. It was about two or three months ago, and apologies that I'm just getting around to review it. The one good thing (at least for me) is that I ended up discovering Luna Grill next door, and now I eat there a couple of times a month. In a nutshell, the problem was the food, and I realize that one visit may not be truly representative of their product. But let's get into the details: It was a lot of money. I spent almost $80 on that visit for my family and I didn't get a whole lot of value for it. I got some combos and tried a lot of different things: fish, shrimp, fries, hush puppies, macaroni, and rolls. It's bad when the rolls are the highlight. It was a long wait, but I sort of expected that. I did make sure to emphasize that I wanted the fries to be made fresh to go and made last because I had to drive it home and wanted them to still be hot. I do this all the time at Dave's Hot Chicken, whose fries are very similar but is actually even farther from my home, and they're always good as long as I hurry. The problems: --This fish (iirc the sole) was paper thin and badly overcooked. I also got some snapper and it was a little better. Fish is supposed to be flaky and moist, but this fish was crunchy and dry. I've never had it like that before- it was almost inedible but for how much money I paid for it. I don't recall the shrimp being too bad. --The mac was just okay but nothing special and a little dried out. I might have been willing to get that again. The fries (I got two orders as sides, making it a large part of my combos) were not freshly made per my request. Or if they were, they made them fresh but then they sat for a long time while the fish was still cooking. Thus, by the time I got home they were cold, limp, and no kidding went straight into the garbage. --Finally, the hush puppies were so burnt to a crisp that you could literally break a tooth trying to bite into one. I would literally be up on battery charges if I threw one at somebody- like a literal rock. That to me just said it all, because no responsible person could look at that and serve it to someone. This isn't Taco Bell where it's expected they don't give a shit. Overall, it wasn't good and mos def not worth half of the $80 paid. Alas, I didn't want to give up on them entirely based on one failure. Perhaps it was just a bad day or a new cook- who knows? Rather than leaving them a bad review straight away, I decided to call them near the end of the business day and let them know how we felt about the food. Give them a chance, and if they believe in their product and that this is an isolated incident, then they may want to work something out and get me back into their restaurant as a new customer who may become a regular patron. At the minimum give me some future credit for some of the items that we were unhappy with. To my lights, that would be smart. Gets me back inside, and I'd be obliged to order more food along with whatever they comped. The call unfortunately didn't go that way. I asked for the manager and explained to her that it was my first visit, that I placed a large order, and I wanted to give her some direct feedback. I told her what I just told you, but in a nice and non-confrontational way. Her reply to what I said was to thank me for letting her know, and sorry that my first experience wasn't what I expected. Well okay, then I guess it's also going to be my last experience there as well and I now know not to waste any more money here. I'll have to keep going to Hemet for my soul food fix. My recommendation to any reader who gets this far is buyer beware because they probably won't make things right if you are dissatisfied. They must be doing pretty good if they can afford to do business that way. read more
