Don't know if this is normal, but my visit to this location was a total disaster. 25 minutes for the food to be ready - would never have ordered had I known that in advance. They were out of salsa and guacamole. They forgot the silverware on the to go order. The taco was cold. I specifically asked whether there would be avocado on my chicken avocado taco (given the guacamole issue) and was told yes. Not true. It had only chicken, onion and cilantro and was dry and tasteless. Truly a horrific experience and I will never be back. If you aren't able to serve your customers appropriately then close early. As far as fast food gets El Pollo Loco is definitely one of my better faves. Location: El Pollo Loco is located in a shopping plaza on Colorado Blvd and Hill Street. Parking: The parking is very tight as the shopping plaza's parking spaces don't accommodate a lot of people so you may have to wait for someone to leave which luckily is often. Restaurant: So....there is no drive thru. This is the reason for the parking lot being as crowded as it is. People have to come in to order and this location is fairly busy. I like the the place is well ventilated....as most known fast food places tend to be which is great! It's a fast food joint so don't expect 5 star dining cleanliness. The cleaning staff do as good as they can given the parameters but some people we just nasty. Food left on the tables, chairs and not cleaning after themselves mixed with those lovely flies...YAY. The food was pretty good. I got the Baja Shrimp Avocado Tacos with a side of broccoli. The shrimp was not burned and the avocado was definitely fresh. The broccoli was nicely steamed but it lacked any flavor other than...broccoli. I guess it's so you can choose what you want on it. Overall pretty good if you have time to find parking and wait. Come here for the yummy fire-grilled chicken + guac salsa. I haven't had El Pollo Loco in a couple of years, but I saw a promotion for 8 pieces of chicken + tortillas for $10 and wanted to try this location out. I'm glad I did because the chicken was delicious! I got corn tortillas and those were kind of fragile, but really the chicken made up for it. The guac salsa was also pretty good. The dark red salsa was so so and the pico de gallo was decent. They only leave the small salsa containers out, but if you need bigger ones you just have to ask. They also have small plastic bags (for the tortillas) that you can ask for if you want to take some lemons or jalapeno peppers to-go. The staff here was friendly and helpful. The biggest downside for this location is the tiny tiny tiny parking lot that is shared with other businesses, but if you're patient you'll be able to get a spot eventually. read more

I remember coming to this place as a kid, ordered take out today family meal, I didn't realize my coupon was slightly expired, I asked the lady at the register to honor it in these hard times and crisis and she refused. I asked to speak to the manger who was about 10 ft behind her, the manager didn't even have the compassion to even walk up to the register to address my request, she said no and that's it. As I was preparing my drinks a customer walked in and I heard him tell the cashier to let her make coworker (a cook) put his mask on...I looked up to see for myself that the COOK who is preparing food DID NOT HAVE A MASK!!! He then said do you see all the people sitting down eating without a mask?...I said to him they are EATING! You are preparing food for customers and you aren't wearing your mask!!! It's mandatory!!!! Straight up GHETTO! This is the closest EPL to me and I had been avoiding it because of the ridiculous parking lot. But Sunday night we were on foot and craving the goodness that is EPL chicken so we walked over. I opened the door to what could only be described at the 14th layer of hell. There were adults screaming, there were children laying on the screaming, and it was about 1002 degrees...which I think is technically hotter than hell. I really wanted to turn and run but we had a friend with us who had never tried EPL and we had promised him some EPL chicken so there you are. We sold our souls to Satan for a 10 piece family meal. Every millimeter of the floor was filthy and covered in some sticky goo that was a combination of chicken grease, salsa, soda and drool from the many screaming children laying on it. The tables were covered in crusty dried food bits and sticky soda, salsa, and from the looks of the place possibly some bodily fluids. The food was actually OK, but I honestly feared for my life with every bite. As sweat poured down by brow I mentally listed every type of food borne illness I could possibly get from eating the chicken...and there are many, trust me. And as we ate the room actually got hotter, and I cannot understand how that is physically possible without everything bursting into flames. The longer we sat there the more I felt like I was eating dinner in the Downtown LA lockup...and there I was without my shiv. Miraculously I survived my meal in Hell without being shanked, stricken with food poisoning, or becoming a follower of Satan. I may have even lost a few pounds by eating dinner in an f-ing sauna. This place... Let me say, that this review doesn't apply to all El Pollo Loco's. I mean the reason i went here is because I've been to others and liked it. But this place... First and foremost. The joint is filthy. Those little waist high walls that you see everywhere in a fast food restaurant (dividers if you will) looked as if they hadn't been cleaned since the restaurant's inception. The tables were disorganized, and as poorly kept as the decor. Which was equally atrocious with it's pseudo Mexican styling that was left to decay over the years. The only reason i could find to look forward while waiting for my food was because i didn't want to look up at the ceiling. The once white corrogated cardboard coverings just looked dirty, maybe because they were or perhaps it was the halfway dead light bulbs that made them look that way. And the smell. My GOD, it was terrible. The rear area of this place smells like one of those blue porto-pottys. Ugh, i'm so glad I took my order to go Now see, I can overlook this devil may care method of store management when the food is good enough to compensate. There enlies the greatest sin. They fucking forgot my order. I waited in there for over half an hour and they forgot my damn burrito. So i went up and showed them the recipt. I really hope that the manager will see this and take these suggestions seriously. When someone tell you that the guacamole is too watery, take it and say "thank you for telling us" instead of saying that "It's been made like that". It was not me who complained, but then I saw the guac and boy it looks like a green puddle of water. Also, I know that this El Pollo Loco branch across PCC can be a bit crowded at times, but I think the workers need to be trained more. It can be cleaner and more organized. The menu had strips of paper that said "No soups today" but when I asked, turned out there are soups that day. The Make your own Bowl idea.. It's not as bad as everyone here describes, but I will say this location for sure is not a good EPL by any stretch of the imagination. Unfriendly staff mixed with a hot, stuffy dining room make for a fairly unpleasant experience. I think the worst attribute of the location is the parking (or rather lack thereof). Entering and exiting from the TINY parking lot can be an adventure for anyone, thanks to it being right at the corner of Colorado Blvd. and Hill Ave. with PCC pedestrians who frequently cruise up and down Colorado. Food quality wise, I can't complain, but I tend to stick to what I know; Tostada salads and burritos. I think the one saving grace about this location is that the area that the food is made in is easily viewed by customers. read more
