Was craving some NY halal cart after a night out trying to bring some back some memories from a past NY trip. Found this place open late night and decided to give it a try. We ordered the chicken and lamb combo plate and it was completely loaded. The meat quality was pretty good, the salad was fresh and the rice was well cooked. The white sauce and red sauce did not hit compared to the ones in NYC, the white sauce is not as tangy and the red sauce wasn't as spicy. If they had spicy rice though that would've made it perfect. I have been to New York Chicken & Gyro in Pasadena a few times now, but just haven't been able to write the review until now. Recently for lunch, I got their Chicken Platter that comes with marinated chopped chicken with grilled onions, lettuce & tomatoes salad, basmati rice, topped with white sauce. I requested for light white sauce... the amount given was perfect. I added one pita bread along with it... it made the platter even tastier... I'm going to get two pita breads next time LOL. OMG, the entire chicken platter + pita bread was so very tasty good! Chicken was the B*MB! I couldn't stop eating it. Next time, I will try it in gyro style. Staff was super friendly and nice. A new and hip late night eats has opened up on Green Street in Pasadena. It definitely carries a New York hip hop feel. The decor here is bold and the music is definitely bumping here. The menu is quite simple and reminds me a lot of the Halal Guys in New York. We ordered the lamb platter, fries and the chicken wings. We ordered the chicken platter before and trust me when I say unless you really like chicken -- that's a hard pass recommendation and go with the lamb. The lamb platter was ok. The rice is pretty bland, the lamb is delicious, the salad is whatever. The whole platter is drenched with sauce to try and add some sort of flavor but doesn't have any real flavor other than watery yogurt. The fries are fantastic! It's the well done kind of fries with seasoning and is addicting. The wings --- O.M.G. so delicious! They are fried well and have this sweet coating along with some tzatziki sauce and it is a party in your mouth singing oh my! We never had a chance to try it, but after the NY Knicks won their first championship in 53 years, they posted a promotion of a free gyro! Parking is on Green St, so can be difficult. Location is on the corner so easy to get to. Place looks clean. Lighting is harsh - would prefer lighting akin to chipotle rather than the 6000k daytime lights. Maybe the walls are super white rather than subtle cream. The dining area felt too fast food. We had to celebrate and got 2 chicken gyros, some fries, and falafel balls. Absolutely delicious. $13 for the gyros is a good deal considering the cost of similar options nearby. The chicken was ridiculously well seasoned and there was plenty of it. Mix this all together to create a nice mixture of flavors where the chicken spice is matched to the fattiness of the lamb and the crispness of the vegetables inside, sweetened by the white sauce. You can add more white sauce as well as a red sauce for more kick if you'd like. This place is on a busy street and there's a decent lunch crowd that stops by. It's either a hit or miss here. Consistency is not a trait this location has. And beware of the kiosk. Better to order with the cashier and eat there as well. In case they mess something up, like they did to mine. I was scammed the other day of my order. With all the polite service and cool art indoors I had to remind myself the Canoga park location is and will always be my only go to location. That is if I am in the area. Ordered two mix plates one with half rice and half salad. The other plate order was mixed with just rice, extra meat (+5.99) with fries and a drink(+5.99). Both my plates were not what I ordered but I had a long day and didn't feel like "calling" so here we are today. What I received was a chicken plate with "half rice and half salad" already a miss. The second plate was the mixed I ordered but with half salad and rice, topped with bbq sauce? Worst combo but I've eaten worse things. Double meat? Nope. Although I do have to say their white sauce is phenomenal, one of my favorite dips in the industry, just wish this place performed better. Also don't expect your order to arrived in a an orderly fashion. Some guy ordered 5 minutes after mine and he still got his food before us. All in all payed 13.99 for the mix plate and an extra 12 dollars for the extras which one was not given. Pro tip skip the fries and drink, def not worth it for 5.99 more. Fries are cheap quality. I use to serve fries at pop ups and there are much better frozen fry options on the market. Just go to restaurant depot on San Gabriel and look at the selection. The ones they are using are just garbage. Only thing I can say was decent was the drip wings. Flavorful and always hit. Even though they are really soggy, still does the job. I mean absolutely no crunch type of soggy. But they hit. If you're planning of spending $60 bucks like I did, there are much better options. MUCH BETTER. I am so glad that I stopped in here the other night between events to grab something to eat. The food was so fresh and so delicious! I got the mixed plate, and it was quite a bit of food,I was able to make 2 meals out of it (and it warmed up just as good the next day) the lamb was so tender, the chicken and rice so flavorful and the salad was so fresh. For a place that prides itself on Mediterranean cuisine, it was pretty disappointing. I've had much better Mediterranean food elsewhere, and the flavors just didn't compare. On the plus side, the interior ambiance was really nice, and the prices were fairly reasonable for the area. However, when it comes down to it, the most important part of the dining experience--the food--just didn't deliver. I probably won't be returning, as I've definitely had better meals for the price. Stopped in last night for some "late night dining". The staff was friendly, service was fairly fast, and I thought that my food was tasty (my wife was "so-so" on taste). The décor is clean and inviting with a New York City street feel (i.e. neon lighting and the graffiti on the walls). There's only on-street parking, so be prepared to search for a spot. Jackie greeted us as soon as we entered. My wife and I both ordered gyros, she got the Lamb Gyro ($10.99) and I tried the Mixed Gyro ($11.99) which comes with both lamb and chicken meat. If we are comparing against the chicken and gyro spots in NYC, it is a fail. If we are comparing against other middle eastern spots, it is very average. With no expectations, I think the place is fine. It is a quick lunch spot. The flavors are not as good as I expected but there is plenty of seating, it is well air conditioned and the inside looks newer and cleaner. The tables need to be cleaned up a bit because I felt it was sticky when I sat at an empty table. It was an okay experience but there are definitely better options near by for lunch. read more
