NO ONE EVER ANSWERS THE PHONE!!! I would not recommend El Portal Imaging based on the repeated access-to-care issues my family has experienced. My mother cannot manage medical appointments independently, and relies on family assistance and transportation. I live in Los Banos and have to coordinate her care from out of town, including traveling to take her to appointments. Trying to schedule or cancel imaging with this facility has been extremely frustrating and unacceptable. The biggest issue is their phone system. When "all representatives are busy," the system disconnects the call instead of allowing patients or caregivers to leave a message or remain in a queue. I have called repeatedly and have been unable to reach anyone. This is not a one-time inconvenience; it has been an ongoing problem. I was also told that I may need to physically come to the facility just to schedule imaging appointments. That is an unreasonable expectation for patients who cannot drive, rely on caregivers, or use assisted transportation. Requiring a separate trip just to schedule an appointment creates a major barrier to care. This is not just poor customer service. It interferes with timely access to medically necessary imaging. Patients should not have to fight a broken phone system or travel in person simply to make, change, or cancel appointments. Because this has been a repeated issue, I will be reporting the access-to-care concerns to the appropriate oversight agencies, insurance plan, and patient relations/administration. Families dealing with serious medical concerns should not have to work this hard just to get someone on the phone. read more

Years ago, I would have rated El Portal Imaging as very good, at least for MRIs. Then year or so ago, I called to make an appointment for an X-ray. I was given an appointment, which was needed as I am disabled and have to book my transport to and from locations. When I got to El Portal I was told it was "first come, first served" with a full waiting room. Obviously I was lied to on teh phone. Most recently, I had a referall for an MRI. Nothing happened. When I called, I was passed to billing who spent over an hour on a conference call wthat included my insurance carrier. They promised to get back to me within 3 days. Nothing. I called and was put through to teh suupervisor only to iinitially be put through the same rigamarole. I insisted on getting an appointment. I was told I would get one within 48 hours. Nothing. Several calls to the facility went unaswered. I don't know what is going on with this facility, but getting lied to by staff and supervisors, and now even failing to answer the telephone, suggested something has gone very wrong with this facility, which is the major imaging facility in Merced Country. If you are able to use another facility, I strobgln recommend you do so. read more

Amazing experience. Adequate parking and elevators in the building. They had more order ready to go and I did the paperwork and checked in within 5 minutes. As soon as I was finished and turned it back to the front desk staff I was called. I was in and out in less than 3 minutes and went upstairs to get a CD to bring to my doctor. They had a CD ready to go after 5 minutes. This office and its staff are on the ball and I will be returning for any imaging needs. Thank you! read more

I'm very disappointed with my experience at this imaging center. They entered my dad's date of birth incorrectly and also misspelled his last name, which caused a huge amount of confusion and delays. When I called, they were unable to even find his chart in the system because the information had been entered incorrectly on their end. Instead of quickly resolving the issue, it felt like people just wanted to pass the buck to someone else instead of taking ownership and helping fix the problem. As someone who works in medical billing, I understand how important accuracy is and I take pride in my work. The lack of attention to detail and overall work ethic was really disappointing to see, especially in a healthcare setting where accurate information matters so much. On top of that, it took far too long for the test results to be sent to the doctor, which added unnecessary stress and delayed care. Accuracy, communication, and accountability are extremely important in healthcare, and unfortunately our experience lacked all three. read more

Worst experience at yosemite location reception desk very rude my insurance has no deductible for xrays ct scans & mri just $100. Copay per visit they refused me services unless I pay $300. Deductible which i don't have a deductible what got me was refusing services for torn tendon in my right elbow/arm that my doctor needs I've been going to El Portal for xrays & mri for many years never been refused services unless i pay upfront I deal with customer service on daily basis this is the worst I've ever experienced if I could give less than one star i would definitely read more

I went in here for my very first ultrasound today and they wouldn't allow my husband in, even though they told me ahead of time that I could bring him. He took time off for this appointment. I really wish I had just refused to undergo the procedure because I was so uncomfortable. The tech was sweet and apologetic, but it just didn't make a difference. It was such a tremendous disappointment. This was after some of the worst scheduling experiences I've ever had. An appointment was scheduled for me and I called multiple times each day in the lead up to it and never got a call back until after I had physically gone in and rescheduled. It's minor, but I cannot imagine it gets better as more extensive care is needed. It was just so gross and unprofessional. If you can get your imaging done somewhere else, I would recommend it. I went to the Yosemite Ave location for a lumbar and thoracic MRI. From the moment I got there I was treated with the utmost of care. I was in excruciating pain from what ultimately turned out to be a large abscess on my kidney. Raquel and Vanessa were so kind and made sure I was comfortable as possible until it was time for the scan. I don't think I've ever had an MRI tech so concerned for my comfort. Michael constantly checked in on me and made sure I was doing okay. I will definitely be choosing El Portal on Yosemite for my MRIs in the future and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this facility to anyone. read more

I went in to request a copy of an MRI, I was treated very kindly by Stacy. I have been to several places for my injury and had to jump through so many hoops to get stuff I needed. It's so refreshing to have someone greet you kindly and tell you "it will be 5 minutes". I thought that was just to help me, no! It was to give me my MRI disc and report. Thank you so much! It made my day! Also, while we were waiting an older gentleman was coming in and my husband went to help him, but the other young lady came out from behind the counter to help him. Wow! This was such an pleasant experience for me! The staff was professional and very helpful! My wait time was so short, 10 minutes or less. I was able to pick up a CD of my scan the next day and take to my doctor! They even had a paper that came with the CD with a QR code that I could scan and view the MRI on my phone! Medical care in Merced is beyond ridiculous. I get a call from Golden Valley changing my post MRI appointment. I told her there is no MRI until I get a reply to my December 15 message to reroute referral to anyone but El Portal Imaging who threatened me with a security guard after lousy customer service a few years ago. Instead I get an unintelligible voicemail on December 29, 2023 due to a heavy accent. I question the academic qualifications for medical assistant; a 6 month certificate? Receptionist was very rude at the Yosemite location. Gave so much attitude and did not have a way of speaking to clients who are already there getting ultrasounds/X-rays etc done and are nervous as it is. No kind of respect with how she spoke to clients. Showed no care or empathy. When I asked for her name she started it in a very 'matter a fact way' while having a smirk on her face. Just very rude. If this location does not want clients taking a plus one for support, then they should advise that prior to the appointment. Another client was given a ride to his appointment by his older neighbor and was told he had to wait outside when mind you it was about 100 degrees with no where to sit, but in your car. Awful. I have been here a few times this year and everytime is worse than the previous experience. 1st experience for a mammogram- The receptionist (blonde hair, Big forehead, hispanic) Very rude. Then the person assisting in the mammogram kept my mother waiting while she talked on the phone with her family for over 30mins. 2nd Experience Receptionist (same one from 1st experience) was rude to multiple people while checking them in 3rd Experience -My mother was called to the front by first and last name and told she has an outstanding balance from 2020 from an ultrasound (she has not visiting since about 2016) My mom confirmed it was for her name and was told yes. She informed the receptionist is must be a mistake since her last visit was years before 2020. The Receptionist got even more rude and said the name and my mother stated no that's not me - The receptionist then looked to her coworker and said "ugh she doesn't even speak english" My mom speaks perfect english and was having this conversation in english so what she was saying did not make any sense and it was rude to say that to a coworker in front of the client. She did not confirm her information before calling random people and risked sharing others information 4th Experience- I received a call to confirm my appointment and the rudest person stated the time (Usually at medical offices or any office state was needs to be brought) At this point she did not and I asked to what I needed to bring and she mocked me saying "of course why wouldn't you need to bring it" I needed to confirm if it should be brought because at some of my appointment for x-rays they don't need insurance because the referral and the E referral states all of it and a ID is needed to confirm the person. Aweful office staff. Poor communication and lack of professional. No follow up for authorization allows orders to sit in limbo for over 5 weeks without contact to insurance, requesting physicians, or patient. When contacted by patient an excuse is the number of patients and cities they serve. This does nothing when you are in serve pain and need test to manage your health concerns in a timely manner. Office staff lies about waiting for authorization. After contacting insurance no such request was ever made. read more

Made an appointment for an Ultrasound at the Yosemite location. Was told my appointment time was 11:30. I arrived at 11:22 and checked in. Another woman arrived after me and said she had an 11:30 appointment for an Ultrasound. They called the other woman before me for her Ultrasound. I inquired if they had more than one technician-yes, they have four. I asked what is the protocol for calling people back if both appointments were at 11:30. The girl looked up my name and said your appointment is at 11:45 with arrival at 11:30. I don't like being lied to...either the appointment setter lied when telling me my appointment time or the girl behind the desk lies. NO ONE said my appointment was at 11:45 and to arrive at 11:30, not the appointment setter nor the lady who called to confirm my appointment for11:30. When you are told to drink 32oz of water one hour before your appointment- every minute kept waiting is awful! I actually went back for my ultrasound at 11:55. The actual ultrasound was fine. The receptionist at the Yosemite location was rude. I was told by my doctor that x-rays were walk in only. So i googled and saw that they open 7. I get there and there's other patients there too. We go in and get to the second floor and it's 7:08am and no one at reception. The other patient says to me "they open at 7 right?" I said yea that's what google says. The receptionist walks in at 7:10 and makes a comment rudely "there no one up here you guys shouldn't be in here" she gets to her desk and her co worker says something like I can start checking them in and she says to her co worker "no, they can wait til we're open" I said oh it says you guys open at 7 online to which she responds "yea the building does!!! We don't start checking in patients until 7:15 don't take the first patient until 7:30 and if you're here for an X-ray we won't call you back til 7:45" i said oh ok that information would be helpful online and she says "yeah i know" other than that the x-ray tech and staff were very nice, but the receptionist has poor customer service skills. read more

This place does NOT give you a quality experience when having an ultrasound. If you are pregnant try to find somewhere else to do your ultrasounds. You lay there and face the back of the machine, it is their policy to not allow you to watch the ultrasound as it's happening. I have never experienced this before with other ultrasound centers with my last pregnancy. It makes getting your ultrasound a very uncomfortable and a frustrating experience that you don't actually get to watch it. They only allow you a brief peek of the baby at the end of the exam. It's awful. They also have policies that make it so your spouse is not allowed in the room during the ultrasound either, only at the end for the brief peek at the screen. This is horrible patient care and not good customer service. They also don't allow any minors at all so don't even think about trying to being one of your other kids. read more

I've been once in the G street location and twice on the Yosemite avenue location. The G street had a good experience and got my pictures. The first time on Yosemite Ave I brought my husband. The tech informed me that she had to do some measurements and pictures before she can have my husband come in. Which I understood. Plus we didn't want to know the gender of the baby. So I was glad I didn't see anything I didn't want to see. The tech at first said she didn't have paper to print the pictures but was able to find some later. She was nice and took great profile pics of the baby. This second time on Yosemite Ave I didn't get my pictures! Was so bummed out since I'm collecting pictures of the growth of my baby. Especially being my first baby. She did allow me to take pictures with my phone. But WTF. Idk if this was my second time without having my pictures printed I would have been pissed. I should have pushed more information to why, but I didn't have the energy. Going to talk to my doctor and see if they can switch the imaging center because I didn't like how I didn't get my pictures. Just wanted to share my experiences. Hope this helps. read more

F*ck this place. They promised I could be a part of my girlfriends ultrasound (of course the one that reveals the baby's sex) long before we came in for the actual appointment. When I showed up they said I was not allowed past the lobby. I get that covid is a serious issue and should be treated accordingly, that's fine. But they LIED to both of us. I took time off work, time I don't have, to be a part of this experience just to find out it was all for nothing. The least they could have done was be honest from the beginning. read more
