Definitely recommend this place for authentic Mexican food. "The Special Dinner #1" is my wife's favorite as it basically has three-four different main items. Tamale, Enchilada, Rice and Beans, Bean Chalupa, both a Taco and Chili Relleno. The daily made salsa is THE BEST I personally have ever had. The front staff are very quick to seat you and see to your initial needs before the servers come to take drink and food orders. All of the wait staff are very pleasant and polite. The kitchen staff are very efficient and spot on with their cooking. I cannot recall ever seeing a single dish go back to the kitchen because it "wasn't right". The decor of the establishment is reminiscent of San Diego Mexican restaurants which adds to the authenticity all around. Great portion size for the price! We stopped in for lunch today and I ordered the lunch sized chicken enchilada. It arrived quickly and was a larger plate than I was expecting for the price. Crossed another Mexican restaurant off our list. We went to El Puente Mexican Restaurant on Cinco de Mayo. We fully expected a wait--we eat out every Cinco de Mayo and know the best places will be busy. What we didn't expect was waiting over 30 minutes while there were empty tables sitting in the restaurant. We were eventually seated, and someone quickly brought chips and dips--but no water. After a while, our waiter finally came by. We ordered margaritas, cheese dip, and, of course, water. It took some time, but we eventually got drinks and could at least enjoy the chips. We ordered their special fajitas. After quite a wait (and an entire basket of chips later), the fajita meat arrived--sizzling and smelling great. The problem? No plates, no tortillas, no sides--nothing to go with it. By the time we flagged down another server to ask about the missing items, the sizzling had stopped. When our waiter finally checked on us and we explained the issue, he took the meat back to "re-sizzle" it--which really just meant overcooking it. It came back dry and even a bit burnt. In our experience, fajitas are all about timing and presentation. The plates and sides should come first, followed immediately by the sizzling skillet so everything is hot and ready to enjoy together. That didn't happen here. We also had to ask for a second margarita, and no one ever offered refills on chips or water. We've eaten at Mexican restaurants all over the country and make it a tradition to go out every Cinco de Mayo. Restaurants should be prepared for the rush--wait times are understandable, but service should still be on point. When it came time to pay, the waiter brought our change in large bills, seemingly hoping for a bigger tip. That didn't work--we asked him to break a $20 so we could leave the appropriate amount. I've gone to this place, since it first opened in the south side of Springfield. The place has always been a solid authentic restaurant in Springfield. Always a good meal; good service and a good value for the money. Salsa: One of the better, some would say, best in town. Chips: They're good enough and the kind of chip you'll see at many places. A thicker style chip, non-greasy etc. Enchiladas: a real good tasting ground beef with a good red sauce. Tamales: These are excellent and have quite the great taste. Rice & beans: The prototypical end product you'd expect. Catering need?: I used this place once recently, based on my wife having this (brought in) at her office. I think it was $10 or $11 a head - and it was a great value; tasted really great; tons of food! The service is always fast and the kitchen knocks it out pretty good, most every time. This is a nice, clean and friendly restaraunt. The service is good, attentive and well prepared to take care of you. They just upgraded some seating and they make great effort to ensure the dining area is clean. I also will say that the lunch prices are attractive, and the portions are larger than the competitors in town. While the staff sometimes speaks broken English, they are all eager to serve. If you're on a special diet, and they have the ingredients, they will do their best to accommodate you with a dish of your own creation. We started eating here a few weeks ago and average about 1-2 times a week of going there now to dine and obviously we love it. For starters I'd like to address something I see in negative reviews and that is menu and pricing on yelp. PLEASE always look for a company website and/or call to check about menu and pricing BEFORE ordering. I am pretty positive the company doesn't generate that info or at least doesn't always and if someone working there did add the info it could be years old. I can tell you by glancing the menu on yelp is much smaller than the actual menu and prices are totally off. Please stop blaming the business, most of the time they can't do anything about what's here, info or reviews. Always a good rule of thumb to check with the establishment or at least go to their website if they have one. The food is always amazing from presentation to taste. If you leave there hungry you have done something wrong. Prices are average and not terribly overpriced especially for the amount you get. I've rarely ordered the same thing twice so I'm not sure why limited vegetarian options is listed on yelp, even if it's not listed on the menu as vegetarian you can change nearly any item to be easily. I'm not aware of vegan options at this time but plenty of regular and vegetarian to choose from. If I'd clean inside and out and there is lots of room and tables. You can easily get to go orders and there's seating to wait. They offer lunch and drink specials every day of the week as well that are great. Their food was delicious and we will definitely return. However, as with the majority of restaurants, coffeehouses, and snack bars in the Springfield area...the ambience was terrible. Hardly any of the places use carpet which would absorb the noise. Really, carpet isn't expensive when you consider how much use you would garner from it. I would think the restaurants would gain repeat customers because the talking at your table would mostly stay there. It wouldn't echo to others. There would be a more intimate feel instead feeling like you were in somebody's basement. Once again, the food at their Nixa locale, was what I expected from flavorful Mexican fare. read more
