I came here a few years ago and the food was great. This time, not so much. Ordered the steak chimichanga and it was filled with grease and the driest, rubberiest, most tasteless excuse for beef I've ever had and nothing else. I went to this restaurant on Republic road Yesterday with a friend who said she's been there several times in the past and that you have good food. Well... Even though we were given their regular menus, the waiter said the fajitas were $2 more than what the menu said because of covid so we decided to get the $8.50 meals. The food was Terrible the enchiladas and the burritos were covered with that nasty canned sour red sauce. Worst Mexican food I ever ate. The Beans and Rice had No flavor and the salsa was very Sour. Only thing edible was the tortilla chips. We managed to choke the crappy food down then when the bill was brought to us, the waiter said he Forgot to inform us that the cost of the meals also went up $1 due to the coronavirus and we were charged $9.50 per meal. I paid but can assure you I will Never return and will do my best to spread the above information to as many people as I can. My friend who used to frequent this place said after yesterday she will No Longer spend a penny there either. I honestly hope they end up going out of business over the Deception on cost as well as the extremely poor food. I lived in TX for years and know what real Mexican food tastes like! The atmosphere was welcoming as myself and friend were greeted upon entering. But that's where it stopped, not that our server was rude, he just didn't have any people skills. We ordered the enchiladas, super nacho fajitas(mixed meat), and guacamole. The enchiladas were very small lightly sauced and smothered with lettuce, sour cream and tomatoes. Most of the dinner consisted of beans and rice(both very bland). The nachos were tasty but could have used more cheese sauce and beans. However the meat was tender and moist making up for what the reason of the dish lacked. The guacamole was the highlight of the meal for me. Very creamy and flavorful which made me very happy. All in all it was a decent priced lunch as we only spent twenty dollars for one appetizer, two meals and one soda. Would I go back upon my next trip to Springfield? The worst food and service I've ever had. I ordered an ice tea with lots of ice and lemon. I got ice tea so weak it tasted like water with lemon and no ice. I also ordered guacamole and queso. The guacamole looked like it can from a can. It didn't even taste like it uses actual avocados. The queso was so thinned out it ran off the chips. MY main course was enchiladas with rice. The enchiladas were small and the rice tasted like it was microwaved. It was depressing and wasn't worth the price you pay. I'm actually shocked this place is in business. I have been here quite a few times for weekend lunches, and the best way to summarize is inconsistent. I usually always detect this faint amount of arrogance from the staff here; You know, that "take it or leave it" vibe. One particularly memorable time there was some kind of disagreement among the wait staff about who was going to take our table, so they just ignored us and let us sit there while they waited on everyone around us. Very uncomfortable. That said, we have had some good food on occasion- there seem to be certain items they are better at, so you have to experiment if you get something you don't like. I like the enchiladas rancheras, and I have had some good tamales on occasion. Might be a bit pricier than some of the other Mexican places I go, but not bad. read more

I can't even say that my visit yesterday was worth a star. We had the absolute worst waiter. Absolute worst service. Food was ok and so were the margaritas. I understand it was busy but it wasn't THAT busy. Too busy to get our order for literally 35-40 minutes. Didn't get our food for another 45 minutes. Meanwhile, my toddler, my husband and brother and I were all sat right beside the front door in the smallest booth! My toddler was very well behaved for half the time but we didn't think we would be here for almost 2 hours so he did get fussy, impatient and ready for bed!!! Second visit to El Puente. Definitely have had better experiences at other Mexican Restaurants. On the first visit, we came here on a Tuesday looking for a taco Tuesday special. We eventually settled on the Fajita Nachos (can never go wrong with these). They bring out salsa, and we requested a hot salsa as well. While walking out, we saw a sign (have to turn your head sideways to read it) that says Mon-Thurs Happy Hour 5-8 with $2.00 margaritas. Puzzled, we both looked at each other. After having a full conversation with the waiter about drinks, he never once mentioned that it was happy hour, nor that there was a $2.00 margarita special. Went to ask him and his response was "you didn't ask". WTF? So yesterday (Taco Tuesday) was the second time that we went. This time we decided that we only wanted the chips and salsa and a queso dip. We also ordered 2 of the $2 margaritas. The first issue was that our waiter didn't come to our table until about 15 minutes of sitting there. There were people we saw walk in after us and they were starting to get food before we even had chips and salsa. Once the waiter did come, we explained to him we only wanted 2 margaritas and a queso dip. He instantly looked upset that we didn't want to order full meals. We came for margaritas, not food. The bartender (or the drink server) eventually came with the margaritas and they actually tasted really good. I would have liked to order another round but the next time we saw our waiter, it was 45 minutes later and he simply asked, "Do you know what you want to order"? Dude, we told you already we wanted queso and margaritas and that's all. Maybe he didn't speak English, which is obviously a common practice at Mexican restaurants around here. We simply wanted our ticket. So after about 15 more minutes (we saw him walking past us and even made direct eye contact multiple times) he finally came with our check. Gave him the credit card, and signed the receipt and left. As we are walking to the car, a very ugly "door guy" chased after us all the way to my car to say that we didn't pay. His actual line was "Did you leave the money for your bill on the table"? "No MF, you don't leave money for your bill when you pay with a card". So at first we thought, this is just a poorly run business. Waiters, door guys, no one tells you about happy hour, they even chase you out the door to make sure you've paid. Not to mention that we were the only Black people in the entire restaurant both times. Drinks were good and cheap but definitely won't be coming back here again. read more
