I should've turned around the moment I saw the dust and mold, but unfortunately, I stayed and regretted it immediately. This place is filthy. The AC vents are caked in dust like they've never been cleaned, and there's what looks like black mold throughout the building. If this is what's visible to customers, I can only imagine what's happening behind the scenes in the kitchen. Then came the service, which somehow managed to be even worse. The girl taking my order was unbelievably rude from the start. I ordered exactly what's written on their menu--a parrillada--and she acted like I was out of my mind. Instead of just ringing up what I asked for, she kept pushing a botana, which is something completely different, looking irritated the entire time. To make it even more ridiculous, I asked for chips because apparently an $8.99 order of guacamole does not come with tortilla chips and was told it'd be $4.50 if I wanted some. You've got to be joking... Between the dirty environment, the attitude, and the absurd upcharges, this restaurant is a hard never again. Save your money and your appetite bc there are way better places that actually care about their customers and their cleanliness. I'd go across the street to La Playa. Definitely a must try Tex Mex fave in Harlingen. Food is always good. Service is always as attentive as possible. Friendly staff. The ambiance is family style large gathering with of course smaller tables & can sometimes be really loud; depending upon when you visit (late night weekends). Prices are fair and lower than some other restaurants. No alcohol as it is a family environment No WiFi but they accept ApplePay. Always ask first in the RGV lol. read more

Service is great Dalia was our server she is outstanding and was always attentive to our needs. I ate a large bacon and egg taco it was delicious. I don't recommend the menudo is a big NO it had a narly smell good menudo shouldn't have a strong odor. read more

Management really needs to do something about the phone line. Like answer them! I've been calling since 2 weeks ago tired 2 different days keeps getting hung up on 3 different times! Tried again this week and NOTHING! Drove up to the window to order still couldn't even open the window had me there for 6 mins. Went to another restaurant and drove by and there was people waiting at the drive thru. So what's the problem when I try to order? Doesn't matter now will not be going back here a shame. read more

My waitress was rude to begin with.my food was cold and meat was even hard and dry like it was old and more then likely microwaved. The rice was hard and when I spoke to Manager the guy grabs plate and offers to reheat it when a fly literally in front of lands on my plate and he still wants to microwave the plate for me. I asked for it be redone seeing the fly landed on the food and he literally reheated the same plate and brought food back to me. When I told waitress to go ahead and take the plate back and remove it from my ticket she lied and said I ate the plate. When that was not so. Then the cashier was not wanting to fix the ticket she was charging me for the plate I asked for manager again and she removed the item after she was rolling her eyes and acting like a teenager when she is clearly in 30s and acting like that what a shame. And not to mention the waitress said she was waiting for the manager to come back from restroom when we saw him walk out the restaurant yet another lie she told us. Went there to have a late dinner with my sister. I ordered a plate to go and they didn't add the fajita taco that goes with the plate. I guess I should've checked, but damn! Finally found a 24 hour place for breakfast! This place has ALL the options! Tripas, Chicken Fried Steak, enchiladas, burgers, fajitas, seafood platters...I could go on forever! Quite authentic in many ways. Dine with the locals! Come as you are! I had the street tacos with chicken: YUM. read more

Went here for lunch after Easter services. Great Mexican food, great service. Highly recommend it.

Our server's name was Erica and she was great. She was attentive and had some good patience with my father's "dad humor." It was around 10am when we went in and actually all server's seemed to be very attentive to their tables. The food I had, and the food the rest of the table had was delicious. It was filling and at a good price. I'll definitely be coming again when I'm in town. read more

Haven't been here in a long time and don't know why. Breakfast tacos are awesome! Tortilla is freshly made with nice amount of filling. I got 2 large ones (potato n egg and bacon n egg) and cleaned the beans off the plates. First time trying the pancakes and wow! These give Dennys some serious competition. Syrup is better than dennys too. The pancakes absorbed the syrup and kinda reminded me of the school breakfast pancakes. I didn't get to try the tacos because my daughter ate them so fast and didn't offer me any, she said they were delicious and she's a picky eater. The coffee was not that great (dennys coffee beats it) but everything else was great! Highly recommend and will be coming back for more. Prices are super cheap too! Large tacos were around $3.50 and they're huge. Order of bistek tacos was $9.99 with beans and grilled onion and the 2 pancakes was around $3 something. Prices are unbeatable for what you get. Will be a regular here once again! I love how the napkin holders have Bible scriptures on them too. Great atmosphere and cheap good food! read more

The beef caldo-- I got a reheated bowl of slop. Everything in it was boiled to mush except for three slices of carrot. The beef was tough and had no taste. The broth-- could have been sink water..horrible flavor. The tortillas and rice were good. read more

Just don't order egg whites cook separate yolk by allowing whites to run through their hand. Owner takes advantage of undocumented employees by not paying overtime and shuffling them around the other family owned restaurants.no handwash stations for servers or cooks. This place is the absolute worst place to go for customer service. The moment they realize you don't speak Spanish or from Mexico. They treat you like crap. I ordered a simple carry out order and waited for over 30 min. Asked to pull forward from drive up and I had to call them to remind them I was waiting for my food. Came here with my family looking for some good food after flying in to Harlingen. It's cool that this place is 24 hours and the food was pretty good, but the service here is very poor. Although our waitress was incredibly sweet, it took us 15 mins just to get our drinks, and about 40 mins to get our simple breakfast and fajita tacos. The salsa, chips and the tortillas were also a big let down. The beef fajitas and beans were good. The restaurant sort of feels a bit grimy - especially the bathrooms - and it's a bit tacky as far as decorations go. And they only put up a wet floor sign for a spill (that had been there a while) after someone slipped. read more

We ordered two breakfasts, the large menudo and the breakfast plate that comes with bacon, eggs, one pancake. Also orderer orange juice and a diet coke. The menudo was appetizing and looked delicious. It tasred like your average menudo and zI would probably order it again. It was served hot and was tasty. The breakfast plate was quite another story. I asked for scrambled eggs and they looked hideous. The eggs were dried up on the outside and raw and runny on the inside. The bacon was burnt and a real disappointment. The only edible thing on the plate was the pancake and that was alright. They gave me a bottle of minute maid and a can of coke. The prices are a bit much for a place that has workers pushing around a filthy cart loaded with dirty, drooling dishes as patrons try to eat their meals. A ridiculously kitschy restaurant that is open 24/7. With delicious and inexpensive food. Yeah! El Rancho is one of the few places in town open late night - or even 24/7. I've eaten here many times at 2 or 3 in the morning. The restaurant is always teeming with people - and once you take a bite into your food, it's easy to see why. The interior decorations are obscenely gaudy, but the seating and tables are simple. The building originally housed a Cici's Pizza before it moved across town - so the dining room is rather large. The tacos are insanely huge. They take up the entire width or length of your plate. And they are stuffed. I've had everything from the chorizo and egg to the potato and egg tacos. You cannot go wrong with your order. The tortillas and chips & salsa are great. You can feed four people here for under $20. However, the service is a bit spotty. But that's pretty typical of most restaurants in the Valley. Either way, that's not an excuse. The servers seem uninterested in doing their job, or not paying much attention. Either way, I have never had to track them down. They eventually come. read more

The food was good. It was probably the best Mexican cuisine I've had down here in the valley. That doesn't mean it is great food; rather, I am just shocked by how horrible all the Mexican places are down here near the border, with a large hispanic population, and a region that thrives on tourism. I would have figured the food would be amazing, I guess it was wrong of me to assume as I have yet to find an awesome place. So, the food is good. It is cheap (cheaper than La Playa and other popular spots). The tortillas are fried until they have a smokey flavor (some people hate that, some like it). Their green hot sauce (I assume homemade), is really awesome! I would love to get a few bottles of this stuff. Their sweet tea was obviously of the powdered mix variety. Their enchilada sauce was great. Their beans and rice were okay. The staff is busy, not enough to go around. Drink glasses sat empty and it took quite a while to get our check when finished. They unprofessionally yelled across the restaurant on a few occasions. The atmosphere here was horrible. If I ever eat here again, which I might if I don't find better Mexican food, I will get my food to go and would rather eat in the dirty parking lot. The place was packed. There is nothing to soften the sound. Televisions on. Blaring music. Screaming children. Everyone talking loud so their fellow diners can hear the conversation. Waiters and staff yelling across the place. The place was too loud. Loud! Loud! LOUD! Yes, it was gaudy decorating, but some places go for that look. I don't care about looks, so long as it is clean. I question the cleanliness of this place, as I do much of the small places down here in the valley. What I don't like about decor is cheap tables and uncomfortable seats. Places should have at least a few booths and more comfortable chairs. The 24/7 hours is nice if I get a late night hankering for Mexican, 'cause I really hate Taco Bell. Anywhere I can get tacos after midnight is golden on my list! Seriously, we ordered several fajita & bean and cheese tacos and they were great. Initially I thought it was slightly on the pricey side, but the tacos I normally eat in one meal were large enough that I got 2 out of them. Conveniently located near the middle of town near 2 major intersections, you can expect decent process, tasty foods, and a old world pueblo feel. It's usually packed weekends. I haven't been before on a weekday. It is much more laid back and the service is much quicker. The waitress was very helpful, suggesting an off menu botana for 3 when promted. The chips are crunchy and salsa is good if a bit watery. Then food arrives after the plates of veggies, rice and beans. Tvs were tuned to sports. There is a drive thru I need to try out soon. The appeal to this spot is they are open 24 hours, so if you want Mexican food late at night this is the spot to go to (until Taco Palenque opens). I have been coming here for years and more often than not the food is just OK. I have ordered enchiladas that were hard to cut open due to how hard the corn tortillas were. At times we have been served salsa that has chunks of ice in it, and the sweet tea still had specs of powder at the bottom of my glass. So if you need a drink I suggest canned soda. Every now and then the food is OK, but that is the peak of this place - just OK. read more

Strike 1: they only serve breakfast at 4:45am but they provide the entire menu. Strike 2: they don't give chips and salsa for free at this hour but they can give me some for $2. (Not expensive at all but when I'm in the valley it's custom). Strike 3: we say okay we'll pay for the chips and salsa and when we try it it tastes like cocktail sauce for shrimp cocktail. The water was DISGUSTING. I never complain about stuff like this, but I can't get over it. The place is nice in the morning if you like eating in loud crowded places. That must be a clear indication that others really like it. I ordered the large breakfast taco, and it was huge. One taco the length of the entire place. It was pretty good too! Servers were nice, but one of the guys was like shouting to get through people it didn't seem as professional as I imagined. If you go just please know the water is HORRIBLE. read more
