The aftermath of the Rey Rey.

Well... Finally did it. BUT I took in backup. The Rey Rey. The biggest burrito in the metro ($26.99). Over two feet long. We did steak, but you can pick the meat option of your choice. Packed with meat, cheese, tomato, lettuce, and sour cream. Mild and hot sauce provided on the side. Great service and food as always. Truly a metro classic! The only thing I regret is not ordering a side of the hot vegetables... Kind of a big Sunday lunch, but more than that, it was a perfect father and son outing/memory!

Best burritos in the city, and the tacos are the best anywhere, the steak is always tender, and the green sauce is to die for

Really yummy! Restaurant has soccer playing, speedy service and the burro as their logo. Free nachos, kids are welcome here (they have a kids menu) and lots of Burritos, Fajitas, Tacos etc.

If you're drawn to hole-in-the-wall (but clean) kinds of places, El Rey is your spot. I loved the building with its drive up area and small atmosphere. We had great service! The chips were okay. The salsa was pretty good. It had a lot of chili flavor to it and a slow burn that sneaks up on you. My husband had a giant burrito (not as big as the Rey Rey--but they are all huge!). And they poured the sauce on the burrito to look like the Mexican flag. Green sauce. Cheese dip. Red sauce. It was pretty neat. I'll get a picture next time! I had the flautas. They were pretty decent. I'll try something else during our next visit. The guacamole is pretty good though! And I loved both the red and green sauces!

All I can say is wow!! We went because we heard about the Rey Rey. A larger than life burrito and it was worth the drive. Flavor for days and the the service was fast and friendly. Please stop by and show them some love. The one burrito fed my family of five very easily.

beef enchiladas w/ rice, beans, and chips

I randomly came here while visiting the Des Moines area: I originally wanted to go to the nearby Northern Lights pizza but they didn't allow dine-in. I got the lunch special beef enchiladas, which comes w/ rice and beans. Every order also comes w/ a free small basket of chips (I was alone so I had it all to myself). It was pretty good, but the best part was, surprisingly, the beans. I liked them more than the salsa so I actually ate the chips while dipping them in the beans. They also brought me 2 bottles of sauce: one hot and one mild. I enjoyed the hot one (and didn't even try the mild one), and was satisfied by its level of spiciness. The server was also really nice, asking me multiple times while eating how good the meal was.

2 meat burrito and a jarrito was 18 and change. Burrito was mostly lettuce --meats were somewhat flavorful but not worth the price.

$17 for a steak burrito that was mostly lettuce, and an ice tea. It didn't even come with any sides or anything.

I recommed the Margarita El Toreado-a shaker of the tasty beverage that will top off your glass 2-3 times. A couple of others in our group got the Sex on the Beach cocktail - a fruity blast of juices and alcohol. We got a variety of dinner times. I got the Spicy Burrito, which was very tasty, but not spicy...at least on this visit. My wife got the Seafood Enchilada, which was a nice slightly creamy dish. Others got the Arroz Con Pollo (her go-to), Texas Burrito, and 2 got the Carnitas Tacos (their favs). The kids got the Grilled Chicken - a nicely flavored dish, and the other tot got the Kids Enchilada - she ate the whole plate of enchilada, rice, and beans. Our food came out in just a few minutes, and the servers are always checking in and making sure your experience is great. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and they are always genuinely happy to see you! We'll keep coming back again and again!

It's right next to the truck stop, which is great for weary travelers who are yearning for some quality food in a nice atmosphere. The place is clean and the staff is friendly and accommodating. I really enjoyed the two meals that I had here. I had the Fish Taco plate my first visit and they were awesome. I especially liked the sauce that was provided on the side and the availability of flour or corn tortillas. Today, I had the Juevos Rancheros plate with black beans replacing the usual offering of refrigerator beans. The eggs, themselves, were smothered in a tasty red sauce. Flour tortillas were served on the side. This meal is so good that I had to force myself to not eat the last several bites of the meal as I was already more than full. Of course, there are the usual drink offerings here both with and without alcohol. I had iced tea both visits, so I cannot really comment to much more about it except to say that the tea is refreshing! In closing, I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit to this nice restaurant. Great for families, couples, and singles alike.

Ambiance: Inside it feels a little crowded with the table I sat at close to the door and the checkout counter. There is more space in the back. Service: The service was good, replacing the chips and ensuring the water was refilled. Food: The chips and salsa were good. The chips are not too salty and the salsa is mild. The queso is one of the best I've had with a light consistency. For an entree I had beef nachos which were ok but I prefer more queso. Parking: There is plenty of parking. I'll definitely be back to try another menu item.
